In their decision, the justices wrote that the court agreed with the argument that Israel's use of administrative detention violates certain personal freedoms guaranteed by international humanitarian law. Nevertheless, the Israelis maintained that the Unlawful Combatants Law is fair, because it is based on the rightful needs of the public, which "justify violating the personal freedoms" of those who threaten that public.
