Moral Bankruptcy of Green Leaders, and The Quds Day

The leaders of the failed "Green Revolution" in Iran who tried to ride on the back of Iranian youth's frustration, are now attempting desperate measures to resurrect themselves!  Despite all the help, hype, and propaganda that the western media offered them, the leaders of the "Green Movement" were not able to call for a single general strike. That failure is a reflection of the fact that the majority of working class, industrial workers, peasants, and bazaris in Iran were part of the 24 million strong Ahmadinejad supporters who had no interest to see their own votes be overturned by a Facebook and Twitter propaganda.

Iranians who were charged up by a sense of security ushered by friendly gestures of the new US president Obama, and a seemingly open environment of freedom of expression reflected by the pre-election debates, participated en masse in a monumental election with an 85% turnout. Forty million Iranians including 24 million Ahmadinejad supporters and 13 million Mousavi supporters defied the calls for boycott of election by reactionary elements, and passionately participated in one of Iran's most impressive elections.

In the aftermath of a highly emotional election, millions of Iranian youth poured into the streets releasing their pent up frustration. The natural frustration of the youth because of decades of restrictive and humiliating dress codes imposed on women, and the limitation on the youth freedom in general, were added to the anger of many who were told by the Green leaders that the election was rigged. The situation became dangerous in the city of Tehran where the 2.2 million Mousavi supporters in fact outnumbered the 1.8 Ahmadinejad supporters, and the ensuing riots led to bloodshed in the streets and a brutal suppression by the police when the riots were getting out of control. The continuous propaganda of the digital media to propagate the claims of the "Green Leaders" added log to the fire of the Iranian youth, many of whom naturally believed that their votes were robbed as they saw the huge number of pro-Mousavi supporters in affluent Northern Tehran and parts of some other university towns. Yet, soon the pro-Ahmadinejad groups who saw their own rights being challenged, in turn poured in the streets and their sheer number fizzled out the Green movement greatly. However, unlike the Green protest, the pro-Ahmadinejad demonstrations was not showcased in CNN and Face book repeatedly, neither was it as angry as the Green protest since they had actually won, and did not need to protest the results. But, the most important factor that killed the "Green Revolution" was the inability of its leaders to call for a general strike which showed their lack of widespread support among different strata of the society. Finally, the efforts of Iranian monarchist expats and the mujahedin who tried to hijack the casue of Iranian youth; and speeches like that of Makhmalbaf in the EU parliament on behalf of the Green Movement, a speech in which he tried to scare Europrans of Iran's nuclear advancements and shamelessly asked the Europeans for more sanctions against Iran, proved the anti-Iranian nature of the Green Movements and its leaders. Naturally, many Iranians who originally had sympathy with the movement, distanced themselves from it and its leaders.

Now that Mohsen Makhmalbaf has managed to successfully put a last nail in the coffin of the so called "Green Revolution" by his anti_Iranian speech in the EU parliament, his daughter Hanna Makhmalbaf, has tried to continue the path of her father by appealing to Europeans through her movie, buying a few moments of personal fame for herself at the expense of selling the Quds Day and betraying the Iranians who are passionate about its cause.

The Green leaders who failed to gather a large group of Iranians for a sustained and effective duration of time, now are trying to convert the gathering of millions of Iranians on the historic Quds Day, and abuse the Iranian people's passion one more time in a pathetic effort to resurrect themselves from ashes. Clearly, this effort will fail again.  It will only reveal the moral bankruptcy of the Green leaders further.

Ironically, the Green movement's effort to hijack the Quds Day message is near the time that Ahmadinejad is preparing for his yearly address in the UN. Ahmadinejad has bravely spoken about Israeli crimes in the international podium in the past, and his success in breaking the taboo of criticizing Israeli crimes openly has helped the international community with the type of current UN inquiry which for the first time in the history of the UN is finding Israel guilty of war crimes in Gaza.

Re Jaleho's: Could anybody, friend or foe

by timothyfloyd on

The treatment of the protestor's and the green leaders should give you easy hint to why they weren't successful in organizing a strike.I wouldn't strike either knowing I could be jailed or even shot. I'm sure it's a fact the Ahmad supporter's do not want their votes overturned but this is not good judgement. So no,it's not a fact.Fact's are proven and you can't prove the majority decision of 70 million people without a proper vote can you? Or if there was a strike or not..Why try?

Jaleh jan

Thank you so much for your very kind words. I do my best to check my emotions at the login screen :o) what can we possibly achieve by getting overly emotional and throwing slogans at each other?!

All I am trying to do is to stop the name-callings and character assassinations. It's true that you have always shown respect for the youth in Iran and you've sympathized with their frustration and agree with their logical demands.

In your predictions, you are presenting your views which are undoubtedly shared with quite a few in Iran and outside too. If everyone supported the green movement there wouldn't be any struggle. I don't see your reasoning as nonsense like some of the other blogs and articles seen on this site. It's a shame that people don't feel confident enough to engage you in a debate and instead they become defensive and take the nasty route.

Unfortunately you are right about the green movement "leadership" outside Iran. I actually see a complete lack of leadership and quite a few opportunists who are endangering our people's lives. As for the ones in Iran, I think Karroubi is doing his best to help the victims, many of our journalists, activists, lawyers and even doctors have been detained and forced to confess and so many low profile victims have been hurt immensely. To take the leadership role in Iran is as good as a death sentence, except for the few who have some respected clergy as their support, needless to say that fact alone disqualifies them in the eyes of many iraniandotcom'ers. But it's the people in Iran whose opinion I am most interested in and they don't seem to be suffering from islamophobia as much...

I suspect most members here expect an acknowledgment of the mistreatment of the demonstrators, arrests, tortures and murders of the detainees from you. The way the IRI leaders have handled the demonstrations and the arrests was not right and I am sure you feel they could have done better than the awful conditions that some of our young people have endured and even lost their lives for. Lets agree that Khamenei and Ahmadinejad along with the bassijis with their brutal crack downs and wrong tactics (lack of tactics) have caused the peaceful protests to become violent and an actual uprising.Maybe then others here would calm down enough to debate over the actual politics.

Then again maybe I am being an optimist since they even attacked me after the election for saying that Iran has changed forever!

I just hope that we can speak of the issues, discuss what you think of Ahmadinejad vs the way we see him as a liar who's gambling with our nation's security and sovereignty and maybe even predict the path of the green movement in a civilized way, so we can learn from each other and try to see the situation from other angles too.

As for my position, although I am not savvy enough to participate in the serious discussions and I am only here to read and learn as much as I can, I promise you and everyone else that I will not tolerate bullies!
It's a free country and a free website where we should all speak our mind without fear. I'd like to take advantage of that and practice the democratic and civilized ways of communication.

Re Jaleho's: Could anybody, friend or foe, prove any different?

by Mola Nasredeen on

For all the ones who disagree with Jaleho, does anybody has an answer to this paragraph written by her?

"Despite all the help, hype, and propaganda that the western media offered them,

the leaders of the "Green Movement" were not able to call for a single general strike.

That failure is a reflection of the fact that the majority of working class,

industrial workers, peasants, and bazaris in Iran were part of the 24 million strong Ahmadinejad supporters

who had no interest to see their own votes be overturned by a Facebook and Twitter propaganda."

Isn't what she states a fact? if not then why?

Jaleho

My dear IRANdokht, I am amazed

by Jaleho on

at the number of times that the mob here have attacked you because of your civility towards me (and everyone else for that matter), yet you never compromise your character!

I don't know what to say, except thank you for your lady like manners, sweet nature, genuine interest in real debate while you mange to always stick with your opinion and principles both. No wonder I have such a high respect for your character.

I only want to emphasize one point regarding the content of this blog as well as the rest of my blogs: I take meticulous care to distinguish between the young protesters inside Iran (whom I greatly respect, save for a very few saboteurs), and the LEADERS of the Green movement which I higly disrespect, the representatives outside Iran more so than the ones inside.

Also, you might have noticed that when there is an important event coming up, be it the presidential debates, the election, Ahmadinejad's confirmation day or Rafsanjani's first Friday prayer, and in this case the Quds Day....the events that I see a majority on Iranian.com or the US that I live in, have certain FALSE expectations that I find completely OFF. Then I venture to give my prediction and ideas as off from the majority expectation as it may be. I think many here are waiting for a "revolution" again, just like they did during Ahmadinejad's confirmation day, thanks to idiots like Sazegara!

In that respect, I am no different from you in expressing my true belief no matter how unpopular it may be. But, I do believe that these are the good topics for an Iranian political discussion, and if people chose to stick to the subject rather than their desire to insult, one could actually have a good debate about these upcoming events.

Farhad Kashani

IRI and its supporters are really really desperate

by Farhad Kashani on

Now that the beginning of the end for the IRI regime started on June 12th, IRI and its propagandists like Jaleho are becoming like unleashed attack dogs try to salvage reputation, credibility and face. This is nothing but out of desperation. Jaleho and Shah GHolam and kharmagas and others are really really really desperate.

They are obviously too ignorant and dumb and clueless to think that nothing will save IRI anymore. But we shouldn’t be surprised for to see them come out and perpetuate this kind of propaganda.

What we need to do is to stand very very firm in the face of their propaganda and expose them harder than before. That’s crucial. This is a very important step to help the cause of democracy in Iran.

Irandokht, you say ..

by Setareh Cheshmakzan on

"I agree with some of the points in Jaleh's blog: I don't like Sazegara's new brand of revolutionary speeches and instructional videos or Makhmalbaaf's call to UN begging for foreign intervention either, but I don't see the young people of Iran being misguided in wanting freedom!

So maybe I am not as green as the ones who consider Sazegara and Makhmalbaaf real revolutionaries ..."

!!!  I am in agreement with what you say in the first paragraph but don't agree that you leave the judgement about the authenticity of your Green to the advocates of Sazegara and Makhmalbaaf, or indeed view yourself as  possibly "not as green" as them!!!

Let us not forget that despite Iranian regime's accusations of a 'velvet revolution' instigated from the outside, and the delusional attempts of 'revolutionaries' in diaspora to jump on the bandwagon and claim and refashion the Green in their own image, as well as the machinations of certain foreign government (with their devoted agents on this website) to seize the moment for the overthrow and to install their chosen cronies, the Green movement in Iran is authentic and home grown and does not take its leadership and advice from Makhmalbaaf or Sazegara.  The Green movement in Iran is not seeking foreign intervention, neither is it against Iran's right to nuclear energy or giving up opposition to Israeli hegemonic ambitions in the region. It does not view Iran as "a threat to world peace" as Makhmalbaaf blurted ignorantly.  The Green movement is not a movement of Islamophobes whom we see crawling in and out of blogs on this website!

Opposition to unhinged violence of this dictatorial regime and its illegitimate practices does not mean alliance with Iran's enemies and forfeiting its national rights and strategic strengths.

babak pirouzian

A brave person do not kill, torture innocent & unarmed citizen..

by babak pirouzian on

Jeleho you said "... The fact that he volunteered to fight in the dangerous Iran-Iraq war for a long duration of the war..."

There is no record of him being in war zone, if you have any document , bring it to our attention. ( if he was , knowing him, he would have made many moronic claims as we have heard and seen last few years)

You said "   ..I also applaud his bravery when he kept his promise of going to the most remote parts of Iran including the areas with foreign terrorists like Jundallah......"

For god sake, I did not know visiting a section of our own country , needs bravery, specially accompanied  with a whole army,, Basij, Sepah, helicopters, tanks etc, where the locations were "pre-sanitized"  few days before his arrival! ? Should the president be scared of a few Junadllah? who are you kidding?  Do not forget , he goes with helicopter to Parliament wearing bullet proof underwear. His last visit in parliament he was accompanied with two body guards when presenting his cabinet. Ya right he is very brave!!, Who is he scared of?  where is his bravery?

You said " his breaking the taboo of criticizing Israeli crimes openly ......." Again , who are you kidding? there were thousand other before him from many parts of the world who criticized Israel and from Iran, there is no shortage of criticizers, starting from revolution, including Khomani, Rafsanjani who said, with one bomb , Israel is finished!.

You said " ...his excessive bravery in his visit to Iraq as the first important regional leader who visited the war ravaged country was waaaaay too much for a president ! at a time that Bush with 150,000 US troops occupying Iraq......"

Again another baseless propaganda: Maleki received approval from US army and Pentagon to give him protection while he was visiting, the same army who control   airport, entire air and ground traffic. The same country that army used to have 100% control of everything?   even a kid knows without support of US army, Navy and Air force , he would have been shredded to pieces in a wink of an eye. Comparing Bush's arrival to AN? are you kidding again or is this an ignorant statement? Unannounced visits  apply to all US, and all other nations' high ranking officials.) Are you saying AN, a Muslim, arriving to a country with over 60% Shiat is in same importance and category as President of the most powerful nation in the world?. He would n't be given a bus boy/dishwasher job in USA.

you said " ,... I don't approve such an excessive bravery from my own president, I want him alive and serving his country and stop risking his life."

He may be your "own president" but for sure he is not the legitimate president of majority of true Iranian people.

As far as Iran and majority of  Iranian are concerned, let me assure you his dead is worth more that being alive and contrary to you claim, he brought shame, mismanagement, "badbakhti" "nekbat" "kesafat" to our nation.

Shame on all those blind people who know what 's going in our country and still hiding the facts and supporting the ones who are among the most hated in our history.
