It was the spring of 1979. The change was in the air. There was hope and anticipation about a new Iran; no political prisoners, no corruption, no secret police or dictatorship. The future looked bright even for those of us who were not political. Change seemed exciting and empowering. We were friendly to the leftists and the Marxists, even though we did not understand them or trust them. We thought that all was good and a bright future was ahead of us.
And then we woke up to the nightmare of the Islamic Republic! Our dreams were shattered, even for those of us who were not political and just wanted to see a new face every 4 or 8 years to run the country.
And that’s the Way We Were in the spring of 1979.

Faramarz Jon, Unfortunately by spring 1979
by Oon Yaroo on Tue Oct 04, 2011 04:08 PM PDTUnfortunately by spring 1979, the evil and criminal elements of Hezbollah had already shed blood of many innocent people by terrorizing the citizens, or by mass execution, or punishing folks for mere association with previous regime!
Also, I had to zoom in on your 1979 document and saw that it was issued in San Francisco.
That was a great era where Iranian students could go to several consulates across the US including New York, San Fran, Chicago, Dallas, and Washington DC unlike now where the IRR Interest section is located in the bathroom of the Pakistani Embassy.
Talk about regress and where we were then and where we are now! What embarrassment. But Iranian Jama'at deserves it!

by Faramarz on Tue Oct 04, 2011 03:58 PM PDTThose were fun days for me too!
Even as an engineering student with not much knowledge of politics, I was regularly asked in my poli-sci, history or even French class to take 10 or 20 minutes in front of the class and explain to the students what was happening in Iran! The fraternity guys wanted to know who Shaw (Shah) (as in George Bernard Shaw) was and why he was hated so much!
Faramarz jan, now you moved to فروردین سال ۵۹

Your blog is about spring of 1979. Now you ask me to write about
فروردین سال ۵۹
is this a typo? do you want me to write about Farvardin 1358 or that of 1359?
Thank you Faramarz jaan
by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Tue Oct 04, 2011 03:46 PM PDTFaramarz jaan,
Thank you for your blog. Those days in the spring 1979, were the happiest days of my life. So proud of having achieved independence, freedom and democracy.... and soon the nightmare was unleashed by Khomeini and his supporters...
Best,
Masoud

Last night I tried to write something at Arian's blog (about the change in his neighborhood). What I was writing became so long and surreal that I stopped. So, I will not even start here. Thanks for the blog.
