Freedom of speech
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun May 10, 2009 06:36 PM PDTAnonymousX, it's interesting that the supporters of the Shah and the Islamic Republic become defenders of free speech when it suits them. We already know how critics have fared under the monarchy and the current theocracy.
I wonder to what degree Reza Pahlavi respects free speech and whether his supporters would publish something as despicable as this poem about their favorite people on their newspaper or web site. Let me guess...
Farah Rusta has exercised her free speech and as a result has damaged her own reputation more than anything else. Thank god for free speech for revealing who we are and how we think.

However, I am not "barking" at everyone. I am expressing my opinion. You may call this "barking". Feel free to do so if it makes you feel better.
But as much as you are free to say your views, or even use words such as "barking", others should be entitled to the same, this includes those who have an opposing views than yours, for example, me or Farah.

by AnonymousX (not verified) on Sun May 10, 2009 05:38 PM PDTI agree with you that Khorsandi is one of our greatest satirists. I read his work and enjoy reading them a lot. He may be a nice human being at the personal level as well.
But this was not my question. The question is why criticizing him, or even ridiculing his public work is wrong? Reza Pahlavi is said to be a nice person, but I want to be able to criticize him, draw caricatures of him, or even ridicule one of his opinions that I happen to disagree with, WITHOUT being attacked at a personal level, i.e., being called dark or hateful, etc.
This is is called freedom of speech.
Nothing is sacred is a the perfect motto that could apply handsomely to freedom of speech. You have gone as far as holding it up even when someone has said terrible things about your own self. I admire this quality of yours.
But you need to extend this to your loved ones or friends. I am afraid this would be much more difficult. One can sacrifice himself, but it is more difficult to make the same sacrfice against loved ones or firends.
Think about it.
Otherwise, what is the difference between

No madame!
by Souri on Sun May 10, 2009 02:26 PM PDTI am not against men! Never been in my life. I love men.
My problem with your approach is that I never put down myself at the level of the "aggressors". If you think someone does something foolish, do you need to look foolish too, to fight them ?
Also this example was only a response to your statement, and in this case, I have much more respect (much much more respect) for Khorsandi and Manouchehr than I got for you.
You want to fight someone, first learn how to respect yourself and make yourself respected. Otherwise, your attempts will get nowhere and you will just humiliate yourself. Not worth it.
My 2 cents.

Freedom of speech all around

You specifically challenged my comment, otherwise I wouldn't even answer you.
You say freedom of speech... so what's your problem with my comment? Aren't I free to say your poems are about bathroom functions? (like another one I have seen of this character). Aren't I free to say your post is "tacky to say the least"?
Why are you barking at everyone who doesn't like this post and pretending that you're an advocate of free speech?
Read the big letters on top of this page, it says "Hypocrisy"!

by Souri on Sun May 10, 2009 06:57 AM PDTWhen I read your so called poem last night, I was about to leave a comment for you, saying you were too arrogant and very rude. Your nasty poem is not even "barazandeh" of a woman!! I tried to google you to see who you really are and what is your education.
I had already read your exchanges with Manouchehr on that other blog and had already a point about your personality. Madame, being a pro-Royalist is nothing important to us, but the very ardent pro-Royalist we know in this site is a person very well educated, have good manner and very good personality, a high class person. At least he shows some dignity to the people he represents, what about you?
I decided to let it go of you last night, as you really not worth it, but now, that many friends state their opinion about you, it's my duty to come and say that I agree with them.
You are a shame to the Royal family too, you know?

by Jahanshah Javid on Sun May 10, 2009 05:48 AM PDTIt does not matter if I know Khorsandi or Rusta on a personal level. Although if I meet her, I'm sure the trash she wrote here (and elsewhere on this site) will come through in her personality.
What is at issue here is that Rusta herself has made a personal attack on Hadi because of his political stands. Hadi has consistently shown that he is truly independent. A man of the people. Someone who lampoons all oppressors and hypocrites no matter what their political beliefs may be.
Hadi will go down in history as one of our greatest social critics and satirists. Meanwhile, who's going to read this vicious piece of garbage and who's going to remember its writer?

"Shoma lotf befarmayid bad az in torshi kamtar bokhor balkeh yeh chizi beshi."
Same question again: Why can you say this to Farah, but Farah is not entitled to say her opinion to Khorsandi?
Or do you beleive that she is not entitled to the same rights than you are?
If you believe in freedom of speech, then you would agree that a controversial, political AND publicly posted poem like that of Khorsandi's could be subjected to discussions, counter-submittals and even ridicule.
Do you agree that the British people have every right to ridicule even Queen Elizabeth? Could we Iranians have the right to ridicule someone like Reza Pahalvi? If yes, why not Khorsandi?
Would that make some people "dark and hateful", but only in a selective manner? If so, what are the criteria for this selection?
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Re: Jahanshah Javid
by AnonymousX (not verified) on Sun May 10, 2009 04:21 AM PDTI doubt that Farah Roosta knows Khorsandi at a personal level. What I see is that she read his poem and did not like it, perhaps due to her political views. She then posted her own counter-poem.
One peom uses words such as ablah, ghasaab, sag, etc, and another uses words such as aalat, menjelab, etc.
Then you, who don't know Farah at a personal level (just as she doesn't know Khorsandi), use words such as dark and hateful, which are just as wrong.
Why when one person (Khorsandi) expresses his opinion, about the Shah in this case, all is fine and well, but when another (Farah) does the same with Khorsandi, suddenly she is "dark" and "hateful"? What's the difference?
Is it because Khorsandi's blood is redder than Farah's? Or is it because Khorsandi attacked a person you don't much care for, but Farah made the mistake of attacking a person you happen to be fond of?
It seems that all three of you are being "dark and hateful" at the same time, each for his/her reasons.
Nothing is sacred, true. But some things seem to be more sacred than others around here.
My goodness
