Morgan Chavoshi was born in Tehran/Iran in 1970. Her Father was a Colonel in the Shah’s regime and her Mother a homemaker. The youngest of three girls she remembers fondly when she first decided to become a painter at the age of four. By the time she was seven she was drawing portraits. At the age of twelve her father placed her in a private class with the renowned Painter Sanjari, son of the famous Composer Sanjari, for a more formal training. Morgan experienced the revolution and the war in Iran and was finally able to move to the US with her family in 1984>>> www.morganchavoshi.com

Brilliant, powerful, and captivating! Very few artists have the ability to draw you into their world to experience their fears and emotions! Your work is not only beautiful, but symbolic. Morgan, you are amazing and so incredibly talented, and I am fortunate to have seen your work in person. Can't wait to see more!

To all the doctors and Mohandes ha who wrote responses...

by farz (not verified) on

Hey all you doctors and mohandes ha(God knows there is no shortage of them amongst Iranians) who are upset about my comment... What I wrote is MY opinion -- if you only want to see positive comments about your article/postings go and have it posted @ your best friend's website(some doctor) not on a public site where apparently "Nothing is sacred"
To Mr. doctor Gilani... Don't get me started about
psychologists... I have major problem with them and the whole psychology thing...they are people who want to analyze anything anyone does from picking their nose to writing their honest opinion about some paintings...
I personally have never seen a psychologist who has had a happy relationship with someone/thing other than a CAT.....even the poor cat gets his brain analyzed once a day.
If you use your right index finger to pick your left nose hole to them(psychologists) it means something other than having a simple bugger in there,,, to their idea you must have had problems that stems from your childhood suffering or something...chill out Mr. doctor.(By the way my uneducated mind is totally intimidated by your psychology degree)..
I tell you what,,,,,, in our university whoever did not make it to the med school did psychology degree .....that's another nonsense that I don't consider a real SCIENCE.....

What I wrote was my opinion and try to respect mine as I respect yours.
I have nothing against Ms. Morgan or her husband Amir and was not fortunate enough to to university with either one of them(oh did I mention I went to university..mmm )well..Even if we did go to the same university rest assure we would have not had classes together or even being in the same building. Enough said here..like anyone else here(
on this site) I stated my OWN opinion,, you don't like it,, don't read it,,
As to calling me a "Miss" just to make it clear last time I was a Miss reza shah was a passeboon...
Now go and analyze this...

Dear Miss. Faraz, I am a

by Dr. Bijan Gilani (not verified) on

Dear Miss. Faraz,

I am a psychologist, and as someone who has spent thirty years of his life studying the human mind and behavior, I find your commentary about Morgan’s art fascinating in the worse sense of the word. Let me state at the outset that I am not writing this blog to disparage your opinion, you are certainly entitled to that; however distorted and delusional.

The reason I am responding to your blog is this: I have known intimately, Morgan, her husband Amir, their daughter Yasamin and Morgan’s family for many years. I went to university with Amir; I know his family as well. For you to make a self-indulgent and juvenile attempt to belittle my friend, whom I love and respect is offensive to me. However, as a psychologist, I glean from your incoherent rant, a person who could only be described as confused and a spuer of word-salad (an inconsistent jumble of non-sense put into words). Your hostile demeanor projects an image of a person who harbors deep anger and is subconsciously a self-loathing individual.

Here are my reasons for making this conclusion which is based on your writing.

First, what is the meaning of the following semi-sentences in your rant?: “As a fourty years old mother of two, a wife, a daughter, a sister and a well not doctor of anything really.”
Second, “I don't have a sense of Art sort of thing.” Well, my dear madam, if you don’t have a sense of “art sort of thing” why do you bother to look at art and then take the time to comment on it? As an analogy consider this: I am not an orthopedic surgeon, therefore, I do not make commentaries about orthopedic surgery.

Thirdly, consider your next comment: “to me these paintings are about nonesense and represent nonsense and my 8 year old can drow onesense much better than this nonesens that is presented here.” Please Miss. Farz, would you give a definition of your understanding of “nonsense?” And, don’t you think that you should learn to spell the word nonsense before using it? If you would be kind enough, please explain what you would consider to be sense so that the viewers of your blog get an idea of what you mean by non-sense! This is a simple equation, like two plus two.

Fourthly, you state: “I really don't get the whole thing about paintings and to me ART is a total waste of time and people who can not add 2 plus 2 go to art school and graduate on something so their parents can be proud of them.” Well, I must admit, that I agree with a segment of your statement in this paragraph, namely, and according to your own admission, that you don’t “get the whole thing about painting.” And, that art is a total waste of time; well, it seems that there may be a glimmer of hope within the bleak landscape of your soul; namely that you are not totally out of touch, and maintain some resemblance of attachment to reality. Yes, you do not get the whole thing about painting and you know it; therefore, there is hope for you yet (though may not be much).

Now, one more point as for the adding of two plus two and its relation to art. I disagree with you. I happen to be a painter, a sculptor, one of the collectors of the largest collections of African tribal arts in the world; in addition, I have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, a Master’s Degree in political science, a Master’s degree in psychology, and a PhD in Political Psychology. And, yes, I can add two plus two, the question is can you?

Last, but not least, here is a fine quote from your ranting, which, captures beautifully the level of your self-loathing and internal conflict wrapped in a word-salad tortilla: “JJ go ahead and sensor this one too, as I am reading it seems like you little "nothing is sacred" shoar only works for your best friends,,, hah what a joke...”

Now, in closing, I would like reiterate that my response to your pained, troubled, and incoherent vociferates is not out of anger; my retort has been a reaction to defend my friend Morgan and to extend a helpful arm in the form of some suggestions and ideas toward you.

Sending you good thoughts,

Dr. Gilani

How pathetic you are . . .

How pathetic you are . . . .
So the world can only be seen through your eyes? Ha? You must be one heck of unhappy individual. The sad thing is that you don't even admit, that even though you don't get it, somebody else might get it. To someone like you this is what I have to say, what are you doing even making a comment on a web site that you don't know anything about? I feel sorry for your kids with such a close minded mother (or whatever you are)!!

Answer to the "69"

by shar (not verified) on

It is sad that your obsession with sexuality has an big impact on your vision for ART. Can you not see the fall of the soul on the physical body, but still holding on to each other strongly? Can you not see the naked body presents the naked truth? How could you even come up with 69 position, it is disgusting.
Morgan I am proud of your pure soul and your ability to be so bold. Please, continue sharing your arts and talents with us.

It is a breath of fresh air to see a persian women make a statement like this.To those who are ignorant about expression and art in our society
still will stare at a nude picture of a women for 10 minutes and then call it "zesht", which so sad and still so typical.
Great work morgan!

challenges of life

by mehrnaz and afshin (not verified) on

In our opinion good art is like a puzzle box with not just one key. It allows viewer to see the patterns and hidden codes that they want to see based on their own experiences, joys and pains. And yet it fully contains the message of the artist.
What we see in Morgan`s work is the sense of vunerabilities and uncertanties that we feel when we get to face the everlasting challenges of life. And yet we find the courage to move on....

Morgan,I thank you for sharing your artwork and for as long as I have known you, your artwork and talent is a new experience and dimension of your creativity that I had not seen before. Your keen eye for fashion design and later, architectural design always impressed me, but your sketches here going back to
your youth are amazing. Your current work is equally as expressive and I look
forward to seeing more.

True Artist

by CK (not verified) on

As a fourty years old mother of two, a wife, a daughter, a sister and a physician I find her paintings astonishing. It is impossible for an intellectual individual not to be able to see beyond the nudity of these paintings. The naked body represents the essence of her soul. The extreme anguish is evident in her paintings. A true artist is a gifted person who can express her feelings and bury her soul in his or her paintings. Once you open your heart you can see the magnificent beauty of her art. This commentary web site is not about your personal feelings about persian culture or an individual. It is rather disappointing that a few ignorant people try to use this web site to express their short coming in life. Bravo Morgan!

Morgan chavoshi

Morgan’s paintings evoke a deep level of recognition of our human qualities of loneliness and fragility; a poignant reminder of her experience. I see them as holographs of emotions that have risen to the surface and spilled onto the canvas.

As someone who knows Morgan

by Roya K. (not verified) on

As someone who knows Morgan for a long time and has seen her work even as a child, I have to say that she is a truly talented artist. All the paintings that she has created before her tragedy are wonderful and amazing, too. Obviously these set of paintings speak of where she is in her life currently. It is not important if someone calls is trashy. When you put yourself in public's eyes you will hear different opinions. What is important, is that if you can reach out to others by creating a piece of art, that speaks of your inner feelings, which allows you to communicate without saying a word, that is Art and is admirable!
Morgan, keep creating you are WONDERFUL!!

Words alone are not enough to begin to describe nor compliment this phenominal artist/human being.
Her artistic skill far surpasses most artists of today, especially in this pop iconic world. h
Her style clearly defines true talent and showcases a tremendous yet to be discovered RAW TALENT. I look forward to all that will encompass and exhibit this talented artist's work!

Morgan Chavoshi

by Magdi (not verified) on

Truly a gifted artist. Her compositions are exceptional, and clearly, deeply personal...as all true art should be. Her use of color is wonderful, but more impressive is the palpable texture that she employs in these thick layered paintings. With respect to the nudity, I think it represents a baring of her soul or a an unvarnished look at her life without the pretenses of "cloaks" to cover them up. Its clearly not sexual in nature. Nice work!

The paintings are powerful and thought provoking. I love the choice of colors in particular. When can I get my hands on an original? Go Morgan! Big things will come your way.
