Spring Has Sprung

Photo essay: Solo About Town – Installment #I

Jasmine is here, so is honeysuckle – lots of it. The smell of orange blossom is intoxicating. Everywhere you look, nature is waking up. Yes – Spring has sprung. New life heralds its arrival through color, scent and sound. It is just wonderful to be alive. And yes - Norooz is round the corner. I have lived in Los Angeles in excess of a decade and yet never had I celebrated Norooz en masse. This year I decided to break out of tradition and brave the crowds. I mustered up the courage to buy tickets to what was promising to be a wonderful Norooz party in my neck of the woods. So it was that on Sunday, March 14, 2010 my family and I set off to the Norooz celebration held by Iranian-American Parents Association (IAPA). The event was, by all accounts, fantastic. Contrary to what I had heard about ‘Eyeranian’ affairs in LA, this one was very well organized, tasteful, of a high caliber, entertaining and just pure fun. It was a proud moment for me to be part of the crowd. I took lots of pictures with Mr. Rebel and thought to share them with you. I wish all of you and your loved ones a wonderful Norooz. May the new year bring to you everything that your heart desires.

Hi! Rosie,

Thank you for your post. I was out of town for 2 weeks........if Iranian.com sells shirts or scarves with nice Farsi calligraphy, I will buy one or two.

Thank you for searching the shirt for me. It is very kind of you.

take care!

Rosie.

Yolanda,

you linked the photo of the tee shirts and scarves to Jahanshah's thread last week and said you wanted to get something like that but didn't know where to. I was going  to write you via your contact button but you no longer have one (which btw, I think  is a bad idea, as you can see...) to ask you if you had asked Flying Solo, maybe you can order them or get them through her.

I did google around (I'm sure you did too, as you are a master googler, like me haha) and it's true, the pickings are slim on the Net, and nothing to write home about. Cheap quality and/or not interesting calligraphy and/or doesn't even look like calligraphy. Plus none of them have matching scarves. You probably noticed the one on the homepage, left, which is a company called Niminy. They are no great shakes imho and only have one scarf which doesnt even match anything.

I do agree with you that the ones in the photo in this essay are by far superior. Flyng Solo, I hope you don't mind my writing this here but I did not want to write it on the other thread, or on any of Yolanda's threads, which are all news, and it would be pretty inappropriate.

As the master said:

Shopping is sacred.

#15 is cool, I like the crafts and artwork.
#18 is great 'cause I like the beautiful Persian calligraphy!
#19 is super cool, I like Farsi calligraphy on T-shirts! They should sell them on IC!
It is funny that a lot of pictures are feet and shoes........I hardly pay attention to those places....:O)
The vegan plate looks great!
I look forward to the 2nd installment!
Thank you for sharing!

just one humble suggestion: when flying solo, look at the horizon instead of the shoes.

Sar-beh-zeer!? You and I both suffer from the same ailment ;-)

Thank you everybody for viewing this photo essay.

Dear Yolanda: Thanks for your comment.  I enjoy shoes and so do many women. Plus, it is poor manners to take photos of people's faces without their permission. Other body parts - well - not so poor in manners. :)

Bajenaghe Jan:  The food was fantastic. I will assume you were talking about the food! :)  You are quite right. Shoes are definitely my thing! :)

Shazde Jan: Welcome back dadash.  Cute poem. Is this one of your own?  Yes - I am a very sar-beh-zeer type.

Marge Jan: I agree with you that it is wonderful to see women of ALL ages have a good time on the dance floor.

 Wishing everybody a great 1389.
