Photo essay: Tehran Press Festival

Tehran International Book Fair and Press Festival is held annually in early May. It is one of the most important cultural events in Iran and the single most important venue for publishers and the media to present their works every year. With one more week of the Book Fair and one more month of the presidency of Ahmadinejad, this year will be the fourth fair administered by the Ministry of Culture in his government. During the four years of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presidency, both the Book Fair and the Press Festival have changed significantly which is a reflection of the events in the bigger cultural scene of the country. Shutting down reformist newspapers (namely the popular "Shargh" shown here in photos), banning certain publishers from attending the annual book fair, arresting journalists and weblogers, banning books and films, have all been frequent happenings in the Iranian cultural scene during the past four years.

but I love the one on picture number 28. Is she available for marriage and long-term commitment?

"Hejab is relaxed" only means that men no longer get horny when they see women's hair. So in reality this issue of Hejab relaxation only means increase of errectal disfunction in Iran leading to reduction of sexual arousal that leads to head covers go back. By the time we remove the scarves and chadors, most men will be impotent.

Anyway, the event looks so Soviet style, depressing, chaotic, bright ugly colors and depressed faces.

Tehran Press Festival

Tehran International Book Fair and Press Festival is held annually in early May. It is one of the most important cultural events in Iran and the single most important venue for iranian and international publishers and the media to present their works every year. 250000 Book Titles are presented from the last 5 years. students of different degrees recieve 80 to 120 thausabnd Tumans in addition to their own money if they buy books. Nnumerless countries - to which culture and books are an important momentum - are present. many of these countries get Stands without paying a rent and the Islamic Republic of Iran gets the same number of stands in the bookexhibitions in those countries. Russia is with 36 stands present and China too. France and other west europians are with an small amount of books also present. The exhibition is in the tob/manument of Imam Khomaini(r) in southern Tehran. Best to be arrived with Metro which has in these days an addapted and higher frequency. the Book Fair lasts stil for one more week. In the last 4 years of the presidency of - by Iranians most beloved - Dr. Mahmood Ahmadinejad is the number of Print media which have not get a permission is reduced.
The Book Fair and the Press Festival have changed significantly which is a reflection of the events in the bigger cultural scene of the country. Shutting down reformist newspapers is a very usefull act of the Mr. Saffar Harrandy the Secretary of cultural and Islamic educations. Since Islam does not need and do not know any reformations so it is better to shutt down the reformists for good, so mean 7ty million Iranians who live in their Islamic Republic of Iran. Banning certain publishers who publish exactly the same as the enemies of Iran and of Iranians and of Islam from attending the annual book fair, arresting journalists and weblogers, banning books and films of revangists, have all been frequent happenings in the Iranian cultural events and it remains so in order to prevent the influnce of strangers, the colonialists. According to arresting of weblogeres: The Islamic Republic of Iran poseses such competency in IT-Technology that it is able to find out who acts illegal and WHERE. Such an IT - Competency is in the western world unknown. they can only make it difficult for example the arranging and visiting of children Porn sites but they can not bann them away. may be they do not even want to bann such sites away. Isnt it wounderful for iranian scientists? having reached such states of sciences? and for Iranians?

It is encouraging to see that hejab restrictions are relaxed. Women in these photos are not wearing a strict hejab, despite the clamp down on the freedom of press.
