BBC: Iranians have been complaining that Google Maps now has no name on the body of water they call the Persian Gulf and is also known as the Arabian Gulf. The issue has stirred controversy in recent years between Iranians and Arabs, who each say their name is the only one that should be used. A Google representative told the BBC it did not name every place in the world. He said the company also did not want to take any political stance in response to the angry Iranian reaction. He was unable to provide an example of a similar case of a missing landmark >>>

"Historically, the name “Persian Gulf” is undisputed.
The Greek geographer and astronomer Ptolemy referencing in his writings the “Aquarius Persico.” The Romans referred to the "Mare Persicum."
The Arabs historically call the body of water, "Bahr al-Farsia." The legal precedent of this nomenclature is also indisputable, with both the United Nations and the United States Board of Geographic Names confirming the sole legitimacy of the term “Persian Gulf.”
Agreement on this matter has also been codified by the signatures of all six bordering Arab countries on United Nations directives declaring this body of water to be the Persian Gulf."
glad you are agreeing with me:)

Google should rectify this situation and immediately include the proper name for the Persian Gulf in Google Maps and all of its informational products.
Sign your name on our open letter to Google’s CEO Larry Page to call on Google to stop playing name games with the Persian Gulf and to use the correct name.

If USA is an example of democracy & human rights to be followed
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sat May 05, 2012 10:32 PM PDTit has no place in my world. This issue actually goes to show the ignorance and stupidity of the west
lead by the USA, UK, France and they think these actions will help
encourage Iranians to accept their inhumane and unproven system of
government that does not consider the human rights of the living nor the
democratic wishes of a culture or its ancestors because they are not
alive to cast a vote.
On Getting Priorities Straight Iranvatan
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sat May 05, 2012 10:22 PM PDTNo one here is supporting IRI, most have opposed them continuously. Names Matter too, and will be easier to attend to once the Monarchy of Iran is restored from the so-called human rights champions (more like hypocrits) of the west and Iranians move from decline, poverty, backwardness back to the progress which we all know based on experience Irans monarchy can deliver.
You have a point when you say "Ignorant illterate bunch" it is taking very long, too long to get people to realize the obvious, the west brought the IRI, the west loves the IRI and extremism for Iran and the West is behind keepig the IRI secure and conflicts to a maximum.
//iranian.com/main/blog/amirparvizforsecularm...
A blog as important as this couldn't eve get a single intelligent comment so i feel your pain.
Priority #1 getting Iranians eductated enough to be able to show they know what is going on based on their comments, how many more days are we going to have to hear the western manufactured corporate controlled media's donkey like followers Arr, Arr, ing to the tune of dictator, corruption, repression & torture regarding the late shahs' years of peace, progress, human rights & development?????
Iranvatan, I don't see you helping people out of their mistakes, intentionally created to send Iran back to the stone age, wanna be part of the solution, read my comments 10 times and if you realize how crucial they are for Iranians then get cracking and help people learn, but first make sure you get it crystal clear.

You are losing Iran to the mother f*** Arabs now you are worried about losing the name

Shame on the "democratic" west & It's human rights record
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sat May 05, 2012 09:47 PM PDTIrans name, persia, is not a toy to be played with, nor are iranians toys to be played with. Paraphrasing a quote by the Great King- Mohammed Reza Pahlavi before the imposed set-up of 1979.
This issue actually goes to show the ignorance and stupidity of the west lead by the USA, UK, France and they think these actions will help encourage Iranians to accept their inhumane and unproven system of government that does not consider the human rights of the living nor the democratic wishes of a culture or its ancestors because they are not alive to cast a vote.
When Europeans and Americans of the so called "civilized world", speak of the Arab Horse, in every text book, in every book store and every Library it also goes to prove the depth of ignorance and stupidity they have about Iran and her culture. The Arabs have no green grass to have their own horses, you stupid western ignoramuses. The Horse is the Iranian or Persian Horse and just because some arabs liked owing a few, doesn't make an entre breed of persian horses arabian.
Our ancestors are all alive in our culture and represented by the 7,000 year old protector of our culture, the monarchy. Whether the persian horse or the persian gulf, I wish all iranians take 2 minutes to seeing and starting to raise their own awareness of the game of the west against others not just iranians. This is a perfect opportunity to question the wests democratic system in comparison with our own Monarchy in terms of human rights.
Which system delivered human rights, which did not come close.

Persian Ocean!
by Faramarz on Sat May 05, 2012 04:55 PM PDTJiran Doost,
I am with you, but why stop there?
Let's call the Indian Ocean, its true name, the Persian Ocean.
There were no Indians around when Sasanian ships were navigating those waters.
Arabian Sea
by jirandoust on Sat May 05, 2012 03:39 PM PDTSince changing the name of Persian Gulf to Arabian was purely arbitrary and result of some Arab leaders (Jamal Abdolnaser, namely) back in 60's, I propose for us Iranians to do the same. I propose to change the name of "Arabian Sea" to "PERSIAN SEA". If a stupid idea by some Arab nationalists gains this much traction, who can argue with the idea of changing the name of Arabian Sea? Persians after all were there and used that water way long before Arabs even existed.
So let's promote the name change folks. From this point forward we will call Arabian Sea, PERSIAN SEA! What do you say?
