Ronak Saffarzadeh: Prisoner of the day

Kurdish women's rights activist serving +6-year prison term

rahana: Ronak Saffarzadeh is a Kurdish activist and a member of the One Million Signatures Campaign for The Repeal of Discriminatory Laws Against Women. She was also a member of the Azar Mehr Kurdish Women's Society, dedicated to her mother-tongue education.

Security forces briefly arrested Saffarzadeh on 8 October 2008, while she was distributing pamphlets about "education in Kurdish language and objection to honor killings," published on the occasion of International Children's Day. But on the next day, security forces stormed her home, searched the premises, confiscated her personal items, and arrested her.

Saffarzadeh spent 1.5 years in detention before she was sentenced to six years and seven months in prison by Branch One of Sanandaj Revolutionary Court on 13 April 2009. She was acquitted of the charge of "moharebeh" (enmity with God). However, the court convicted her of "membership in PJAK group" and "propagating against the regime."

In August 2009, an appeals court upheld the lower court's sentence in its entirety and the court decided that Saffarzadeh would serve her prison term inside the Sanandaj Central Prison, where she is currently serving time next to dangerous criminals who have attacked and injured Saffarzadeh several times, causing serious injury to her.

Her "crimes": being a Woman, a Kurd, and an Activist......

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

The original charges against Ronak were "mohareb" (waging war against god) which under the Islamist regime's penal code is punishable by death. This charge has not been completely lifted  from her case. Which means she can be executed when and if the fascist regime decides so. In other words, she is another hostage taken from iranian kurds by the fascist islamist regime.

"Mr. Sharif in reference to Ronak Saffarzadeh’s case stated: “the court has cautioned about the court date and accordingly the court will set a new date to review the charges against Ms. Saffarzadeh.

Mr. Sharif said: “Ronal Saffarzadeh charges are stated as Moharebeh (roughly translated as war against god)."
