Path to War? Assassination, Tensions in Persian Gulf

Interview with Trita Parsi

Democracy Now: Iran says a nuclear scientist involved in its uranium enrichment program was killed by assassins in Tehran on Wednesday, becoming the latest Iranian scientist to die in a series of similar incidents. Earlier this week, Iran announced it had sentenced a U.S.-born man to death for allegedly spying for the CIA. "If we are increasing the sense of threat, we may be able to prevent [the Iranian's] capabilities to a certain extent, but we're also increasing their desire for the nuclear deterrent," says Trita Parsi, founder and president of the National Iranian American Council.

Personal attacks and Accountability

by Mohammad Ala on

IC is not a place to get into a debate where the majority of IC members are hiding or resorting to personal attacks towards those who disagree with them.

Trita Parsi grew among people who have advocated democratic process among Iranians.  I have disagreed with him but will not resort to personal attacks.

As long as Iranians do not stop personal attacks or are not held accountable for their actions (both inside and outside of Iran), Iran is not going to change for better.

Good speech

by choghok on

He coms with valid points but I would like to hear him come with suggestion on how we can solve this issue. I remember after the elections he was thinking that Obama handled the situation very good. Right now he thinks that Obama is just going in one direction, but that is because Isrealis is pushing him really hard and because of the coming elections.

NIAC Condemns Assassination Campaign Targeting Iranian Scientist

by iraj khan on

"NIAC condemns the assassination of Iranian scientist Mostafa Ahamdi Roshan.  This assassination – the fourth in two years – is an illegal and immoral act that increases the risk of military confrontation and retaliatory acts by Iran.

While such attacks may very temporarily slow Iran’s nuclear program, they could also increase Iran’s sense of need for a nuclear deterrence and by that fuel its determination to advance its nuclear program. This would render a peaceful solution dramatically more difficult.

NIAC welcomes Secretary Clinton’s forceful condemnation of the assassination. However, it is deeply concerning that the government’s condemnation has been undercut by Senator Rick Santorum’s high-profile praise for such acts, including his description of the murder as “a wonderful thing” and advocacy for U.S. involvement in future assassinations.  This advocacy only serves to heighten already dangerous tensions between the U.S. and Iran and undermine U.S. commitment to the rule of law.

The Obama administration should further make clear that the United States will not tolerate the use of terrorism as a political tool by any nation or group, and that such acts are counterproductive to the cause of international nonproliferation."

No way, Oon Yaroo geraami

by Bahram G on

That's honest work! And hard work. Maybe you can use him as CHAAPLOOS to butter up your customers. What do you think? He would be really good at dissimulation. But again your shop, being run by a great Iranian upright patriot would never consider adulterating the kebab with fillers so he could lie through his teeth and fool the customers. Washing dishes? No way. That's hard work. And whatever you do, don't use him as your cashier.

"Iran" and "Iranians"

by Joubin on

Mr. Trita Parsi repeatedly manifests a deficit of sense and wisdom.

Given that this is the same person that introduced the ill-considered meme of "Iranian-American", one wonders why he shies away from pronouncing the full and accurate name of the Islamic Republic of Iran and hyphenating the Islamic Republic of Iran's officials.

See anything wrong here?  Pay attention ...

... and then ask yourself if you want Trita Parsi to hog the air waves and run 'an outfit' called (pay attention!)

National Iranian American Council.

(Isn't that a mind bending name?  Think about it ...)

Since Mr. Parsi (or whoever is behind him) enjoys using psycholinguistic programming on the "Iranian-Americans", permit me to return the favor:

"Islamic-Republic-of-Iran", not "Iran".

"Islamist-Iranian", not "Iranian".

"Islamic-regime", not "government".

"captive-Iranians", not "Iranian people".

Time has come to dislodge the self elected "representatives" of the "Nation" of the "Iranian-Americans" from their comfortable perch.

& Salaam.

Dear amirparviz

by Bahram G on

What inspired me, you ask? Human's dual nature. Each of us has the potential of being angelic or demonic. That potential is within each one of us. A very wise Alaskan Indian once told it to me in a metaphore of white and black dog. He said we ought to feed the white dog within and starve the black one to become worthy of the name human. The mullahs and their supporters have done the exact opposite to their inner duality and now aim to kill all that is good in others.

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

I love pugs, do you have one?  What inspired you to put up your icon a back and white one half/half?

On conscience, thats a function of being alive, these mullahs are dead men walking sucking the life out of Iran and all else they come in contact with.

Since when executing Iranians by the IRI matters to their mouthpiece in the west. Only one Iranian every four hours? They must be getting soft or something. Recall the excecution of the political prisoners by the thousands. Well, maybe by now not many dare to challenge the rule of these murderers so they have to kill a few at a time.

Don't worry about the west-residing IRI supporters and apologists. They : NOON RO BE NERKHE ROOZ MIKHORAN. Since when these people are expected to have any conscience?

..... to be Iranian, particularly when living in a country other than Iran. Who do you owe allegiance, how do you deal with all this b/shit ?

Two yrs now that I've been following IC and reading how war is just about to break out. Depressing, more than ever.

East Europeans leftists in particular are crazy. Almost as if they wished there were war waged against the IRI, so the latter could teach bloody Western imperialists a lesson.

Have been a leftist all my life, nowadays, am turning right. If not for other reason then to avoid this unholy alliance, Putin-Chavez-Ahmadinejad-Castro.

In my young days it was so easy to know left from right. Nowadays it's all mixed. Or I must be losing it, getting old, I suppose.

Big cheese?

by Bahram G on

Faramarz, in what sense did you call him "big cheese?" you know all about cutting cheese and letting out big cheese. He certainly does sound like letting out big cheese with his 24/7 defense of his RISHOO PASHM bosses, albeit in what he thinks in language that makes simpleton fall for his scam and believe him as an sincere man of peace and reconciliation.

Well, my crystal ball tells me he is about to be unemployed. So, he better consider your offer for a houseboy. He certainly has the requisit experience for kissing up to his bosses.

There is actually a pecking order at NIAC that I see at work here.

You start as a member of the Cut and Paste Brigade where you are only allowed to cut and paste quotes from the approved list. Then over time, you get promoted to the next level where you’re allowed to say a thing or two by yourself, but as long as you quote the “il Capo dei Capi” the Big Fromage!

I think that I am getting some ideas about my next story!

It's telling that regime's apologist are only concerned about terrorism and assassinations when if affects the IRI while you don't hear a whisper when IRI is involved in domestic or foreign terror and assassination of its own citizens or spreading terror in other countries: aiding and abetting the butcher of Syria comes to mind.
