Jafar (Shahin) Eghdami: Prisoner of the day

Human rights activist sentenced to 10 years

Madyar: In September 2008, security forces arrested Jafar (Shahin) Eghdami on his way to attend the remembrance ceremony of the mass executions of 1988 at Khavaran Cemetery. Jafar Eghdami was a human rights activist and a member of the Human Rights News Agency at the time of his arrest. Jafar Eghdami's health has deteriorated severely in prison and he has embarked on hunger strikes several times to protest lack of medical attention to his situation.

According to RAHANA, plainclothes forces first arrested Eghdami in July 1998, following Tehran University's [18 Tir] protests. He was released a month later. Security forces arrested Jafar Eghdami for a second time in 2001 for his political activities. He was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison. He spent four years of his sentence inside Rajaee Shahr Prison, and was released in 2007 when he completed his prison term.

Security forces arrested Jafar Eghdami for the third time in September 2008 on his way to Khavaran Cemetery for a remembrance gathering. He spent nine months in solitary cells inside the Intelligence Ministry's Ward 209 at Evin Prison under severe psychological pressure.

During an ambiguous judicial process, Branch 22 of Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Hamed Eghdami to an additional five years in prison in May 2011 on charges of "supporting the Mujahedin-e Khalgh" Organization. Following an appeal, Eghdami's case was overruled and returned to Branch 28 of Tehran Revolutionary Court under Judge Moghisseh for a fresh review. During a minutes-long re-trial, Branch 28 increased his sentence to 10 years against the law. In October 2011, in an open letter, Jafar Eghdami described the unfair and illegal handling of his case by the Iranian Judiciary.

Shahin the IRI's Leadership will soon account for its crimes

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

The injustices you are facing will be eventually brought to an end.  Your brave and respectful acts are a source on Iranian accomplishment and the loyalty you have shown towards us all will be honored the very first chance we get.  The Regime is over, we may or may not be able to convince the usa/west to support secular iranians instead of negotiations or war, but we all have to try and do what we can to accelerate the demise of the IRI and have a referendum for our future.

Imprisoned for having an opinion

So much for the promised "azadi" under the Islamic Republic. Of course, those with an ounce of intelligence and knowledge of the history of the Mullahs knew from the beginning there would never be any "azadi" under this backward, narrow-minded and vicious bunch.

As Roozbeh said, we won't know many people have fallen victim to the tyranny of the IR until this regime is toppled. And then we might (or might not) find it shocking the scale of this regime's crimes against the Iranian people.

The cowardism of Islamist murderers is well known.

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

They seem to be frightened of their own shadows, arresting, jailing, torturing anyone who dares to raise a voice of complaint.

But, in this case, their fear is very well justified. There is enough solid evidence to convict every single senior member of the islamist regine for crimes against humanity, in case of the mass murder of tens of thousands of political prisoners in 1988. Khavaran and many more known and unknown cemetries, where the victims of this crime against humanity were secretly burried in unmark mass graves are indeed the crime scenes.

Jaafar Eghdami is one of many countless witnesses to this crime that IRI is trying to eliminate....

1988 will not be forgotten

The time for the officials of the Islamist Rapist Republic (IRR) to face ICC for their crimes against humanity is not that far off.

Those in power at the time of the crime against humanity in 1988 including the PM at the time, Mir Hussein Mousavi, will have to answer for their participation in the crime.

And time will come for the Iranian nation to appreciate the bravery of people like Mr. Eghdami, that time is not that fat off either.
