Behnaz Yazdanfar

Canadian watchdog's damning verdict against cosmetic doctor

thestar.com: Toronto cosmetic physician Dr. Behnaz Yazdanfar was “incompetent” and displayed “disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional” conduct in her care of five patients, including a 32-year-old mother who died following liposuction in 2007, concludes a scathing disciplinary finding from Ontario’s medical watchdog. Those conclusions mark the end of a nearly two-year disciplinary hearing process by the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons into one of Canada’s most troubling and high-profile cosmetic procedure deaths >>>

News report from 2009:

Michelle is a patient of Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar, the primary physician at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic. She describes her experience with Dr Yazdanfar from how she chose the clinic to the actual breast augmentation surgical procedure and the recovery afterward as well as how it's changed her life. Dr. Yazdanfar performed the procedure:

Always check the references

by Souri on

When I decided to get a lipo in 2006, I have consulted at least 6 doctors. Then when I finally chose one to do it, I called the College of the Medicine of Montreal (the college of the doctors) to ask for the references of that surgeon. They said he has been practicing since 80 and had no complaint registered against him.

Of course there's still a risk even with the bests of doctors, but again, when there's surgery there's always a risk, whether it's a purely medical surgery or a cosmetic one.

What I deplore is that the law allows the doctors to continue practicing during all the time of trial even if it takes two or three years! We had a similar case here in Montreal with another female doctor who was in trial but continued to practice lipo on the people and unfortunately a woman has been killed during the lipo, while the Doctor had already two cases of incompetent in her file!

Take the report with a grain of salt

The reality is that having surgery is a big deal.  Vanity does come at a cost sometimes.  When people decide to go under the knife for non-emergent, non-life saving, cosmetic procedures, they need to weigh the potential risks against the purported benefits.  The complications noted in the report are actually discussed with patients prior to obtaining consent for treatment.  The risk of serious irreversible injury, and even death are always mentioned prior to obtaining consent.  If the patient so chooses to go ahead with the procedure, then he/she bears at least some of the responsibility for the bad outcome.  It's easy for people pass judgment on a case the nothing about especially if they are no actual medical professionals.  Some people simply have bad protoplasm and simply don't do well after surgery even in the best of cases.  Good surgeons have bad outcomes all the time.  A bad outcome is not necessarily a sign of incompetence.

Interesting

I amnot sure what happened in this case! but if she has been barred from practice in Ontario then I believe she is indeed "incompetent"

I refuse to believe that race or specially gender is in any way  effected this case in a negative nonnetations the college of physicians of Ontario or the court`s dicision!

If any, in Ontario at least I can speak of, many universities or colleges are "admitting" females more for their gender or for political reasons!!!

It is getting dangrous. Just imagine, many women are accepted over their male counter part if both have exact same credentials and I believe this is the tip of the iceberg and we are going to see more of this!

it is a saying that women could get away with murdar! obviously she did once but for the second time they looked in to it a bit more critically.

To ontario; I am very disappointed that someone can actually open a clinic without proving any credentials or diploma or anything just an MD???

Bizzzarre!

She can't really be struck off, if she wasn't on (how can anybody just set up shop like that?) and why oh why do people undergo such drastic surgery as if they are shopping for an apple at the risk of ending up dead at worst and at best looking like a disfigured deformity of a caricature of a barbie doll?

Scares the hell out of me.
