Architecture: Agha Khan Award Nomination

Arsh Design Studio's Dowlat II Residential Complex in Tehran

This project counters the two-dimensional facade and level open-plan floors of the typical Tehran mid-rise with a building that seeks a three-dimensional approach. The facade—a wooden grid—is punctured with a variety of openings that extend the building's volume beyond the main envelope and allow unpredictable configurations dictated by the preferences of the inhabitants. At the same time, each apartment is split level, allowing the creation of a roof garden that is directly accessible from the top-floor apartment >>>

Looked good at the first

Looked good at the first glance, but the design probably sacrificied some safety features for style, in addition it did not fully consider the geography .  For example,  ignoring to put a handrail on the flight of stairs poses  safety risks.  And also the facade may look stylish, but in a dusty city such as Tehran, it acts like a dust collector.  I wonder how practical it is.

Good form+ functionality= good design.  Here I find the form generally ok, but I see functional flaws.
