AFP -- Iran's parliament on Tuesday impeached and sacked Transport Minister Hamid Behbahani over fatal plane crashes, the dilapidated state of the air fleet and deadly roads accidents, state media reported. A close ally and former teacher of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Behbahani refused to attend his impeachment, which parliament speaker Ali Larijani slammed as a "violation" as the house went ahead with the motion. "Out of 234 MPs present, 147 voted against Behbahani and he is not transport minister any more," state television said. According to the text of the motion carried by the media, Behbahani faced impeachment over "frequent aviation accidents and his inexpert comments that 'crashes are normal' and unjustified use of an unreliable and worn-out air fleet." >>>

To Nader Vanaki, Esfand in his comment here and I in other blogs
by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Feb 02, 2011 04:27 PM PSThave answered your points in your comment addressed to me. Basically, if sanctions have caused a certain plane to be unsafe, the answer is to ground the plane. If still not clear, please let me know.
can this system of democracy impeach
by mahmoudg on Wed Feb 02, 2011 10:55 AM PSTSeyed Ali Gheda?. If and only when that happens, I will eat my words and bow my head to the regime in Iran as a true democracy. Until then, this is a Islmo_Nazi regime.
is the islamist "nuclear bomb minister" also gonna be..
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Wed Feb 02, 2011 09:20 AM PST"impeached" over this total distaster of "nuclear thing" leading iran towards war and potential disintegration???
BTW, i find the use of certain words like "impeached", with their clear association with parliamentary democracy, quite amusing when used in the context of the Fascist, Terrorist islamist regime of Iran.

by yolanda on Wed Feb 02, 2011 09:06 AM PSTDeath is normal, homocide, manslaughter and murder are not normal!
Well-said!

If I visit Iran, I will tour by bus, train, camel, taxi or on foot! Hopefully it is safer than planes!
Yolanda exactly!
by Esfand Aashena on Wed Feb 02, 2011 04:53 AM PSTIt is one thing for the 30 year old planes to be unsafe and another to consider it "normal" to have unsafe planes so people can die in them!
What is worse is that this is happening over and over again. People themselves try to avoid Iranian planes as much as possible. So a Government ministry in charge of people's safety shouldn't let people fly in these planes and worse when they die say "it is normal!" Death is normal, homocide, manslaughter and murder are not normal!
Everything is sacred
......
by yolanda on Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:28 PM PSTCrashes are inevitable if the planes are 30 years old and not air-worthy!
Well, maybe it is time to focus on flight safety than sending people to the space, enriching Uranium, and giving money to the Hezbollahs/Hamas!
The guy said that crashes are normal meaning he knew the planes will crash, but he let the planes fly anyway......!
Real Reason
by iroooni on Tue Feb 01, 2011 03:08 PM PSTaccording to a recent email about the last crash was to save $3000 on de-icing of planes.

by Nader Vanaki on Tue Feb 01, 2011 04:56 PM PSTYou are so far off with your comment:
"IRI admits that there were problems with operation of Iran Air"
You will not find one person in Iran, government or public sector that will draw your conclusions. It weighs heavily on every concerned Iranian mind both in Iran and outside as a given fact. The first to tell you would be Iran Air people.
At this point you make the total sum error:
"Menawhile IRI apologists and some others claim that sanctions caused the crash. Go figure."
Sorry, you have not followed the sanctions since 1995. You don't know of used, obsolete, demo proto type, etc..parts that were sold to Iran at great cost. I also have to mention regular exchanges of information and technical training between the part manufacturers and Iran Air, which were prohibited as well. The effect of sanctions on these matters is obvious.
Your name branding IRI apologists is a quick resolution to your lack of reasoning on the subject.
So minister of transportation loses his job over IranAir crash
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Feb 01, 2011 01:17 PM PSTWhich means that even IRI admits that there were problems with operation of Iran Air, Menawhile IRI apologists and some others claim that sanctions caused the crash. Go figure.
Sorry Faramarz, I just saw that you made the same comment but that is Ok, I second you :).

Anything Abnormal?
by Demo on Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:37 AM PSTContinue with reading the news above "Between March 2009 and 2010, Iran reported 23,000 deaths in road accidents, official figures show." Accidents? Normal. Deaths? Normal. Fake Degrees? Normal. Lying? Normal. Imprionment? Normal. Trture? Normal. 40% Unemployments? Normal. Vast Drugs Addictions? Normal. The Killer Inflation? Normal. All & all eveything is "Normal??" as long as the power is in the hands of a bunch of "Rammal."
PS. AN's Ph.D. was in "Transportation" studying the "Road Asphalts." Behbani could as well had been his dissertation main advisor!!
"Crashes are normal". Yes Ahmadi says the same things = Normal!
