NIACollahis
by AMIR1973 on Sat Dec 17, 2011 10:51 AM PSTThe NIACollahi demagogues implicitly endorse the notion that Saddam & Sons should have been the indefinite rulers of Iraq and that the overthrow of the Takriti gangsters by the U.S. was the "crime of the century". Perhaps the NIACollahis and their Rahbar-for-Life Trita Parsi are best suited to serving as liaisons and lobbyists for the Islamist terrorist regime and championing a Grand Bargain with said Islamist terrorist regime, rather than commenting on those who are their intellectual, philosophical and ethical superiors, like the late Hitchens.
Not a hero
by Ari Siletz on Sat Dec 17, 2011 01:14 PM PSTHitchens argued eloquently in support of social positions that already had strong Liberal converts, this gave the illusion of his being an intellectual heavyweight. But, really, he didn't change any minds that weren't already made up, and brought no new ideas into the arena of the issues he took up .The only place he did change minds was about the Iraq war where he contributed to one of the first human rights disasters of the new century. His legacy is a confused and aimless Left, and a stronger, emboldened Right.
In this video he attempts to condemn Iran's population to the same fate that the people of Iraq suffered. It is unfortunate that folks in both the U.S. and Iran still follow the least honest amongst them. For example there is no "mushroom cloud" on the Hezbollah flag , as Hitchens claims in the video; at least, no more than there is a mugshot of Khomeini on the Moon.
But he's gone now and his rhetoric can't help murder families anymore. So rest in peace, Chris, I suppose.

I hope he is right
by kazem0574 on Sat Dec 17, 2011 08:45 AM PSTOne of the main stumbling blocks to advancement of nations is to blindly adhere to religious beliefs.
Religion is too deeply engrained in the psyche of Arab people, the Koran is in their language and I cannot see them easily breaking loose from the chains that hold them back. We see the Arab spring elections resulting in Islamic parties succeding one after another. It seems they did not learn a thing from Iranian’s 33 dark years, perhaps because THEY ARE ISLAM and Islam is them.
But I am hopeful that what Hitchens says does actually apply to our youth, that they are indeed seeing through religion for what it is. Just as so many hundred years ago the Europeans broke the chains of Christian clergy’s.
As Ironic as it may seem, Khomeini’s revolution may have done Iran a great favour by imposing a ruthless religious dictatorship, then promoting a baby boom which has now resulted in a very young population all of them educated, all with real-time access to world history, daily events and trends.
Without the horrors endured in the last 33 years, Islam in its current form may have remained embedded in the Iranian society much longer.
I can only hope that he is right and in the not so far future in a secular Iran, all religions (Inc Islam) become a free personal choice for individuals and only a spritual link to their maker.
