Dear fidelio5

Although I disagree that sanctions are the answer only armed resistance will work. And not by the treacherous MEK ... more like the FLN Algerian Model.

I don't believe sanctions are the goal. They are the means to the goal, and the goal is regime change. By reducing the IRI's oil and natural gas revenues, and thus reducing its capacity to fund its repressive apparatus and bribe its supporters, sanctions have the potential to help level the playing field somewhat between the IRI and its opponents.

QUESTION: i ask honestly and without bias: why does there seem to be a sincere dislike of the NIAC and a widespread belief that it's an arm of the IRI?

I have never called NIAC "an arm of the IRI", and I can not speak for others. My personal objection to NIAC stems for the fact it opposes meaningful sanctions and advocates (in my opinion) a very accommodating approach towards the IRI -- an approach that goes by the name of Grand Bargain or "rapprochement" or "engagement", etc.

Afshi, Amir, and a broad question

by fidelio5 on

Afshin, you are correct. Beautiful and smart is there a better combo?

Amir, your sarcasm is well received. We do need to talk more about what to do. Talking about human rights violations in Iran is like the NY times coming out with a news flash that "Pizza Tastes Like Tomato and Cheese!"

Although I disagree that sanctions are the answer only armed resistance will work. And not by the treacherous MEK ... more like the FLN Algerian Model.

QUESTION: i ask honestly and without bias: why does there seem to be a sincere dislike of the NIAC and a widespread belief that it's an arm of the IRI?

NIAC trying to fool everyone

by seannewyork on

They dont give a damn about human rights.  They worked on cutting funding for human rights orgs in usa.

This is the only position they can take because they looked like fools for years.

They should ask for regime change while they are at it.

Cheh bayad kard?

by AMIR1973 on

Before this NIAC-sponsored event, I had no idea that the IRI committed human rights violations. Thank you, NIAC, for opening up our eyes. Now that we have established that, the next question is: what is to be done? There is one and only one possibility of ending the IRI's human rights violations: And that is ending the IRI itself, because this regime and its ideology are incompatible with human rights and freedom. The only way to set the groundwork for regime change is by broad economic sanctions, including an embargo on oil and gas. Now, will NIAC stop opposing such sanctions and start advocating for them with the same zeal with which they have been opposing delisting the MEK? Otherwise, these human rights conferences are just "feel good" measures for Iranian-Americans and will have no impact whatsoever on ending human rights violations in Iran.

Dear Ramin J

You are totally right. Now you can see how Iranians try to hit each other from behind. This is the exact reason why we cannot reach our goal of having a free Iran.

Ramin J

hold on! wait a minute?

by Ramin J on

isnt NIAC supposed to be this big and scary pro-IRI group? they sponsor an event in the Senate on the human rights tragedy in Iran? NAzila Fathi speaks and lambasts the IRI? and apparentely all other speakers said the same thing? And NIAC praises Fathi?

how does this add up? How can you be pro-IRI and sponsor an event like this?

or hold on, the people making these accusations are overwhelmingly MEK operatives? The same group that says Shirin Ebadi is with the IRI?

so they make these accusations against anyone, even those on the front line fighting for human rights?

I feel so fooled, i had fallen for the lies about NIAC. THey sounded so satisfying, we could blame all our failures and mishaps on NIAC.

But now when it is clear that NIAC is the IRI's worst nightmare - a superbly organizaed and effective Iranian organiztaion outside of the US that has influence and clout - who can we blame for all our shortcomings?

God forbid we are forced to take responsibility for our own actions!!!

THANKS NIAC

by iamfine on

There are a few folks here that have the habit of humiliating the NIAC and keep associating the NIAC with the IRI. Rather than badmouthing the NIAC we should all help to strength its position in this country

Thank you Nazila Fathi .....

For all of your effort in bringing Human Rights violation in Iran to the world's attention.

Human Rights and the violation of it in Iran is on the forefront of most Iranian and American-Iranians priorities and goals. Any effort to bring the violators of human rights to justice and provide more protection for the basic human rights in Iran is of huge importance and should be applauded.

Thank you NIAC for facilitating such effort and any/all your work in this area.
