BBC: Four major energy companies are pulling out of Iran in order to comply with US sanctions, the state department says. Royal Dutch Shell, Total, Statoil and Italy ENI will now avoid US penalties targeting companies which do business with Iran. Naftiran Intertrade Co, based in Switzerland, will face new sanctions . The US has tightened sanctions on Iran over concerns about its nuclear ambitions, which Washington fears are aimed at acquiring atomic weapons. Tehran insists its nuclear programme is for purely peaceful purposes. Recent legislation gives the US administration the power to penalise foreign companies which invest more than $20m in Iran's energy sector. However, companies taking steps to comply with the law are exempted from penalties >>>

Sanctions
by Fair on Fri Oct 01, 2010 03:34 PM PDTWhat "positive side"? Those who say "Iran got through sanctions and is already used to it" need to define what "got through" means. That the regime is still in power? Or that the average Iranian was able to achieve and maintain a decent standard of living? That Iran was able to grow and profit from non oil industry? I don't see the latter two being the case, so I don't consider Iran to have "got through the sanctions". And I don't think the current and future sanctions are going to be fun for the Iranian people either. But the Iranian people want change, and This regime must yield to their demands.
And David, please disregard Colonel Sanders here. He is merely a khasokhashak, a wannabe Iranian who takes a constiution which guarantees the Iranian people their universal human rights and considers it toilet paper, but at the same time respects the current taliban constitution forced down Iranians' throats which concentrates so much power in one unelected person. And of course, this character lives in the good ol USA. Adam bevatan o badbakht o behoveyat tar az een sardare morghha nadareem.
Rave and rant!
by Immortal Guard on Fri Oct 01, 2010 01:08 PM PDTI am going to sound a bit crazy but so be it!
Slap a blockade on top of sanctions. I am for preventing Iran from exporting its raw oil and importing refined oil. Iranians should learn to stand on their feet. You want f***g gas to put in your "Aboutayaareh" then learn to refine it bozo! Oh you don't like that "Aboutayaareh" you are driving? You like a nice car? Learn to build it! Maybe you should first learn to drive properly, learn to put on your belt and learn also some driving ethics. Otherwise stop whining! You don't like it there? Well you neither did like it before the revolution nor after the revolution! Maybe you are just a self-hater. Then get out. Japan needs manual labourers and corpse incinerators. Send back letters home how you have become a Japanese tycoon! Zerangui alone will not get you there! Learn to do useful work "bacheh soosoolay dallaal"! What happened you no longer have the edge to pull of another revolution. The new generation is "bibokhaar"?
So Iranians should shut up and wake up and smell the coffee!
Yaa roosari yaa toosari!
No Sargord you are wrong
by seannewyork on Fri Oct 01, 2010 10:15 AM PDTI am an IRanian, living in IRan, a youth and I think this is against the regime and not us. We actually welcome harsher sanctions to choke off the money supply to this regime.
More sanctions against regime please. We know Khamenei and co are the cause of it not usa, europe ect.
obviously you are not in touch with what hte youth of Iran that were in the streets want.
Look on the positive side!
by Immortal Guard on Fri Oct 01, 2010 08:31 AM PDTIran got through an 8 year war with Iraq despite sanctions and international isolation. Iran demonstrated its capacity during that war of attrition to absorb punishments and sustain losses but still stand on its feet.
Now Iran is already used to sanctions. It will definitely bruise but Iran will get through these sanctions. The sanctions may even end up being edifying.

This is a proof as why West doesn`t care about Iranians
by Benyamin on Fri Oct 01, 2010 05:57 AM PDTThe IRI has prooved many times in the past that they will do anything to stay in power. We all remember how they accpeted the UN Resolution 598, because they were going straight to hell. Now, the Un sanctions and unilatteral sanctions crippling Iran`s economy but What these sanctions will do first and foremost is to weaken Iranians people to the point that they wont be able to fight back and that the end it will make(perhaps) the IRI to end its Enrichment cycle or even worse to end the atomic technology altogether for the sake of Islam.
The point is, The IRI know that people in Iran wont be having enough energy or a right and united mind set to do anything. Just like the end of the war when they executed 15000 souls and no one said anything.
I know, I was there. People were so weak and tired and no one was happy and anyone wanted to cry out the others avoided them.
As e result, IRI stayed in power, Iran accepted UN Res. 598, which meant giving up money and lost so many lives because of one person(khomeini).
There is a sequal happening. The West doesn`t give a damn about Iran or Iranian people. learn from your mistakes.
