Ahmadinejad Arrives in Beirut

Set to tour villages on Lebanon's tense border with Israel

BBC: Crowds of cheering Lebanese have welcomed Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Beirut, on a visit likely to prove divisive in the region. Mr Ahmadinejad's motorcade was showered with rice and flowers on its way from the airport to the presidential palace. But many people are alarmed at the visit, as Iran backs the Hezbollah group, an avowed enemy of Israel. In a move likely to outrage critics, Mr Ahmadinejad is set to tour villages on Lebanon's tense border with Israel. The region was devastated during a 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel, and rebuilt partly with Iranian money. "Ahmadinejad has done a lot for Lebanon, we are here to thank him," 18-year-old engineering student Fatima Mazeh told the Associated Press. "He's not controlling Lebanon. Everyone has a mind and can think for himself. We are here to stand with him during the hardest times >>>

You fellas seen the speech yet? Pretty dramatic stuff. The entire square is filled beyond capacity. And no quarter is being given in the speech denouncing Zionism.

Amazing.

Have you seen the reaction from the US State Department? Disappointing, but not surprising. It's the same old tired hypocricy. Ron Paul for US President! is all I can say.

I don't know why anyone is surprised

by Onlyiran on

These guys need a place to go after they're booted from Iran.  South Lebanon is the most ideal place.  No "country" will ever take them...not even Syria.  They'll be radioactive (not literally, but you get the meaning).  So, they'll end up in South Lebanon and will set up their own little fiefdom with all the billions that they will take from Iran.

So, is it really surprising that they are pouring billions into Lebanon?  Wouldn't you do it to ensure a safe haven for yourselves if you were ruling a country where you were so hated, where you had committed so many atrocities and where you were scared that at any minute, when you let your guard down for five minutes, people will be hanging you from light poles?

I'm contemplating the flag

by Simorgh5555 on

I'm contemplating the flag of the Islamic Republic alongside the Lebanese flag with a ceder tree at the centre. The people of Lebanon should have no doubt that if Hezbollah were to ever have its way then they would replace the ceder tree with the symbol of Allah or a Kalashnikoff.

As for the tall chick in the power suit, Nasrallah will force her to don a hijab.

This is not at exaggeration.

Any rational person can see the same phenomenon in Iran before the catastrophe of 1979 repeating itself in Lebanon. The religious fanatics will rally all the different elements of the Lebanese political establishment and society around itself to confron a perceived enemy: This time in the form of Israel.

Once they manage to obtain power the terrorist Hezbollah in Lebanon will eliminate their rivals and impose a fanatical Islamic state.

I appeal to all Christian Lebanese to reject Hezbollah and kill the criminal Ahmadinjead while he is Lebanon.

The Great Iranian Empire (circa 2010)

by AMIR1973 on

The Great Iranian Empire of 2010 is ranked below Angola in terms of its exports (and Angola only has one-fourth the IRI's population); and its GDP per capita (PPP) is lower than Botswana and Gabon. The IRI truly is a regional "super power". Oh yeah, sure it is.

Sargord!? Here you go again!

by Dariush Kabir on

It was not too long ago that Cyrus and Darius were bad people in your ideology, now you are in your dream land comparing Ahmadinejad to Cyrus? WOW you have no principal!!

What is he going to do at the border? scare Israeli children by showing his face after all Halloween is coming, or stink up the place by his body odor?! He was wearing the same cloth that he was wearing in NY.

By the way Ahmadinejad is too small in stature to be compared to Cyrus and Darius. He has blood of Iranians on his hand, Cyrus freed people, did not put them in jail and have animals rape them.

Not that the IRI have been able to solve all our own problems in Iran such as poverty, un employment , inflation,  education, infrastructure, and ....Ahmadinejad is in Lebanon spending our money on people who took part in the war against us they helped Saddam kill our people, even today as soon as the money stops they will turn against us, Don't forget Lebanon voted for sanctions.

By the way,  he looks so rediclus not shaking hand with that lady.

by Anonymous Observer on

but we left Iran with a couple of suitcases and really not much else.  Our family home and everything in it having been destroyed in the Iran-Iraq war while you were attending private school in the U.S. and playing out the war with your toy F-4's and Mig-21's.  Oh, my father also lost his job of about twenty years because of the war.  So he was uneomplyed and we were homeless as war refugees.  In fact, we were so poor when we arrived in the U.S. that my family had to resort to collecting food stamps for a while so that we could have food on the table.

No one ever paid us for the destroyed home and it was never rebuilt. BUT, I'm glad that that is not the case in Beit Jbail in South Lebanon, where all the destroyed homes are rebuilt with Iran's money and residents are even paid to furnish them.  I bet that makes you happy!

In school there are sometimes these really obnoxious kids. We have all ran into them. They tend to be weak but have big mouths. They taunt the bigger kids who usually ignore them. But at times they get so obnoxious that the bigger kids kick their a***. Then they run to the principal and cry that "Big so and so" hit me. While the whole time they are begging for it. IMHO Sargord is such a kid. He deliberately picks the most obnoxious position; then taunts people until his a** is kicked.

Me thinks he likes it.

In your Islamic Republic, Kourosh and Daryush do not have a place.  Need i remind you how your Khalkhali wanted to level Takhteh Jamshid after the great insurrection of 1979?  For these mental midgets, history started when Mammad and his band of thugs invaded Iran Zamin on camels 1400 years ago.

Furthermore, the money we removed from Iran pales in comparison to the money you and your ilk have stolen from Iran since 1979.  If we didnt remove our funds, people like you would have confiscated it via the Kangaroo court system known as Dadgaheh Enghalab.

Know what you are talking about before you attempt to engage in conversation.

Iranian vs IRI

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

There seems to be a confusion over Iranian and IRI influence. I fully support Iranian influence in the region as well as beynd it. However I am weary of IRI influence. This goes for spending money as well as the nuclear issue.

Opposition to Iran comes from two points of view:

  • Those who mistrust IRI but otherwise want to see a strong Iran.
  • Those who do not want a strong Iran period.

These two groups are not to be confused. Temporarily there may be a confluence of interests however they will come to head in time. Once the IRI is gone the first group will find itself head to head with the second one. There may be some way to "bring over" the second types to the first however. I has a very interesting discussion with some Americans recently. I posed the question: will the nuclear issue matter if Iran had a "sane" government. The initial reaction was "no" however I managed to reason to them that the response should be "yes". A the end I had them agreeing. Iran will be strong when its leadership figures out how to  make friends. Specially with its opponents.

Is not the whole universe built on "Unity?" Did not the great Iranian mathematician "Kharazami" discover the computer coding (The Binary Base) of "one" & "zero?" Are not we all either "on" or "off" of our bases? Let's be it then. If our hearts are chained together with "love" & with "caring for each other" we become an all "shining" universe ourselves. Let's go for it then starting right now!!

Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

A few replies

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

1) The money IRI is spending in Lebanon is to buy influence. If we had a real nationalist government it will also spend money in other nations. The difference is that IRI does not have the good of Iran at heart. Otherwise spending money to gain influence is not wrong by istelf. For example I would happily spend money in Tajikistan and northern Afghanistan. They are basically Iranian people and deserve to be included. I want Iran to have influence in those nations.

2) I normally disagree with MidWesty. However is he right about BBC. That "news" organization is biased beyond hope. They do not even know how to say "Persian Gulf". Rather "The Gulf"!! My foot! BBC management must learn geography and history. They just want to be taken as truth because they are Britons. Well it don't work like that.

3) I do agree that "Sargord" has shown more hated of Iran and is people than all others. No single person even our resident IMF is as anti Iranian. At least IMF is out for interests of his own nation: Lebanaon. What is Sargord up to? Does he have a nation.

In conclusion. I suggest all Iranians refust to take BBC seriously until it learns two words: Persian Gulf. In addition remind the jerks who run it of this at every opportunity. I live a happy and full life without BBC;you could too.

The kind of money IRI is spending in Lebanon, they should kiss his feet too!

It is sad and a shame for us Iranians to have such a regime and president  that spending money and resources on people who really do not like us. If I am not mistaken these people helped and supported Saddam during the war. Our own people have to suffer and leave under such harsh condition, so Ahmadynejad  go and fix Lebanon's power grids!?, give money to Hezbollah.

For 1400 years we have suffered at the hand of these people and still have not learned our lesson. This is a national tragedy

while spending billions in Lebanon!

What's wrong with this picture?

By taking away all government subsidies, the 40,000,000 ( that's forty millions) Iranians who are already living below poverty lines will be increased by at least a few more millions, but we have all this wealth and money to spend all over the world!

The unemployment figures since the begining of this Iranian new year, March 21, has been the highest in the past 31 years, joblessness plus the rate of inflation, is nothing but a creeping death sentences for overwhelming majority of Iranian people.

And this nasnas mozalef  thinks he's so popular.

Take away Basiji thugs and Sepah pimps from the streets, and they won't last half a day.

I am a proud Iranian-American, a citizen of the US, a taxpayer, and a productive member of American society. Unlike you, I do not offer pathetic cyber propaganda on behalf of an anti-American, anti-Iranian terrorist regime, which from its first day to the very present has made "Death to America" its hallmark. It has taken American diplomats hostage and has promoted terrorists who have kidnapped Americans, killed Americans, and blown up U.S. embassies. You are a West-residing Groupie of a regime which is also the leading killer of Iranian men and women. Only a lowlife would fail to see the killing, raping, imprisoning, torturing, flogging, and censoring of the Iranian people as the most profound of anti-Iran actions. In summary, you are a complete and utter piece of.... well, you know. Now, keep barking, Phony Sargord. Cheers .-)
