by tabriz_balasi on Mon Dec 27, 2010 01:05 AM PSTone time i started listening to Aramesh Dostar, it was only the fifth minute that i got very depressed; he painted a very dark picture of iranians and their mind set; no nation can progress if they think so little of themselves; even if the stuff he says are true, they have no use because it will require an entire nation to take a 180 degrees turn and walk the other way; unfortunately social movements don't work that way; Hisotry is the only teacher we've got, not Aramash, not Dabashi; the only reason that Dabashi appears to be smart is because he's not trying to fight History; be believes that history has to take it's course; it is like evolution; you have to wait; I am a muslim; i might be tolerant but i rather be good muslim than a tolerant muslim. i might be totally on the wrong side of history and people in the future will read about people like me and laugh; you might be right; but it is like love; it is the most real thing to someone that is in love; unlike what nonreligious people think, religious people are religious because their prophet has shown them a part of themselves that they weren't aware of; the peaceful/loving/complete part of me was shown to me by the prophet of Islam; it didn't learn about it in physics/chemistry/pscychology class. i love Muhammad for this; because the more i loved him the more i knew what love is; because his love is love of your own true nature; don't dismiss religion as a problem, i can be a problem, a huge problem if it's played out wrong; just like anything else; take anything good, i will show you how to make it bad; look at what is taking place in the name of freedom/democracy today. is freedom/democracy bad? NO. unfortunately humans can get carried away and become unballanced very fast; religion is a very personal relationship that one has with his existance; humans are so different from each other; sorry if you've read this message this far; it's probably very bad english and boring writing; and what is your obcession about women running things; people should be judged on their character and capabilities not gender; so, yes we have great women; and they might be the president some day; but who are you refering too, i don't know any iranian woman that is on the level of Dabashi.
I don't know about what Ganji received from US. I look at his role right now and it is a positive role. I definitely won't vote for him because he's a little neurotic. But as i said, if today i had to pick someone as president Dabashi would be my top choice; but iranians wouldn't vote for him because he's american; and he's american and that's why he won't run for an office either; so i'm just a stupid wishful lonely guy; that is all.
but two group of iranians that i can not tolerate is the Monachists and Christopher Hichen type secularists. Dabashi is the only type of secularist that i like because he's not forcing me to be a certain way and at the same time he trusts history and does not believe in surgical social and political actions; unless you're a prophet like Muhammad you can't pull off a successful revolution; khomeini tried to play a prophet, and he fail misirably, now as a muslim you have no idea how much i despise him, he destoryed your country, which is my country too; we share that part, but he insulted my religion more than anyone in history.
this is just a theory; but maybe history is just this weird DNA type thing that has to be expressed if we were to evolve socially. there was a time in human history that prophets use to keep showing up; no more of that anymore; and in the last couple of hunder years was the time of big revolutions and khomeini served as iran's leader, like other dictators were dictators of their nations. it is just a process that we have to go through. that is why nature is great; it is above all, and God is above that. when are you going to give in to the fact that we're only aware of so little about ourselved and that we're being played by forces much greater than ourself; the most beautiful thing to do for you is to wash yourself and stand for prayer because all your convictions might turn out to be a passing falsehood;

But since I saw your favourable comments, I went and saw the full version of his interview. Could you shed some light on what exactly he said that had any kind of substance? It escaped me.
Ganji is another Khomeni in making, accepting $500,000 from
by Hoshang Targol on Sun Dec 26, 2010 08:50 PM PSTright-wing American foundations should sound the alarm bells for all. These institutions usually don't hand out half a million dollars to folks just because of their discourse! Not to mention AG was a leading member of the Intelligence Ministry, and committed to augmenting IR, though with a shade of Green, if you will.
Your religious mind set, although very tolerant and open-minded, is a typical instance of a central problem we have had in Iran for ages: religious mode of thinking and living. Please read some Aramesh Dostar, and let us know what you think.
And there are at least ten to twenty Iranian female academicians, throughout the world, that are much more capable decontructivists than HD, cheers.

by tabriz_balasi on Sun Dec 26, 2010 08:09 PM PSTwhy can't women be president? bring me a woman like HD and i will vote for her; not only that i will even marry her (joking). HD is a good guy a decent guy and also very smart. he thinks outside of the box; i think the reason he appears as such is because he knows history; he knows that IR will fall because it's just a natural thing; and he is confident; so he believes that instead of attaching IR directly let's work on ourselves, let's switch to a democratic discourse, instead of the insults and hateful slogens. even though he's not a muslim, but he never offends muslims, not only that he respects the religion and he doesn't see it as a problem unless it becomes a poltical system. i wish we had more seculars like him, and i wish he converts to islam one day. don't talk bad about Ganji, watch his new interview with bbc at this url address; he is very good guy;

This is Not Kambiz's Entire Interview of Dabashi
by Darius Kadivar on Sun Dec 26, 2010 03:00 PM PSTKambiz asks much more tough questions to Dabashi than this edit suggests.
Some of my questions were answered. I continue to disagree with Dabashi but Kambiz did ask him much more pertinent questions than this edit suggests.
It would have been good to see the FULL Interview here cause otherwise it was misleading.
One can see it on Parazit's and Kambiz's Facebook page.
masoudA .... wow, we're all becoming friends, like a rainbow :o)
by tabriz_balasi on Sun Dec 26, 2010 03:18 PM PSTThanks masoudA, now if you become a muslim i would love you even more; just kidding :D but you know, it's so easy, you just say "la elaha ella allah" and "muhammad rasool allah"; that is it; just like that you'll become a brother; think about it, ok; just kidding...i'm JUST kidding...jesus...don't get upset...but you'll think about it right? please... OK, ok, i was just kidding...i mean.. not in a sense of trying to be funny, No, it is not funny.. iknow.. i just wanted to throw the idea out there... you know?, maybe you'll think about it, maybe you won't...but atleast don't hate me for it.. it's a personal thing i know... and you don't know me and i don't know you... so, it's easy for me to say what I really think ... you know? i don't know friend... maybe i'm wrong... am i funny? OK< i guess i'm not funny... you didn't answer me.
Tabriz - I just changed my mind
by masoudA on Sun Dec 26, 2010 11:53 AM PSTabout you - I thought you'd be a closed minded person - and you are not. Proud of you - and am sure when the time comes you will take the right side.
As for the human rights articles - you are correct - not implemented to perfection anywhere - but some countries could not get passed Article 1 - ala Saudi Arabia which was the first country which refused to sign the articles in 1948...because of obvious conflicts with an Islamic Government. Once a society starts having pereferrial social laws for a citizens of certain faiths, genders, races......it has broken the First Article of Human rights and Islamic Governments and the Shariia Law both do that.
Sorry if I was hard on you before - long live Iran - long live Azarabadegan - Yashasin Tabriz - go teraktor
masoudA
by tabriz_balasi on Sun Dec 26, 2010 10:22 AM PSTI just read all 30 articles of human rights and of course i agree with all 30; they don't contridict Islam, so agree with them. but i don't know of any country that is abiding by all of these laws. can you tell me who follows these rule anymore? the guys that are in charge in Iran maybe represent 10 to 15 % of the population; so they will eventualy tremble and fall in the nature of things. what what replaces them hopefuly would be a more representative government. US/Israel are both criminals against other people, not against their own people. IR is criminal against their own people but not against any other people.
Tabriz
by masoudA on Sun Dec 26, 2010 10:00 AM PSTDo you know the origin if the name Tabriz?
Anyways - as you can see many members on this forum are waaay above and beyond the groupings you have devised to categorize Iranians. I asked you before - you failed to grasp the importance - so I ask you again - where do you stand on the 30 articles of human rights? Where does mr. Dabashi stand? - that is the question/line that has been drawn.....where do you stand? There are only two kinds of Iranians - one on each side of the human rights line. There are also those who try to stand on the line and go with the wind......my hope is they will soon make up their mind.
Roozbeh, this is very funny
by tabriz_balasi on Sun Dec 26, 2010 09:16 AM PSTI went to see Anahid Hajjati's poetry and this is the first one that popped out on me; it is funny because it kinda negates what you said about the classification thing: but i agree with you and this is a nice poem by the way:
" that was very poetic":

by tabriz_balasi on Sun Dec 26, 2010 08:44 AM PSTGood answer. All we can do is teach what we know and learn without being stuborn. I try to do that myself. I think education and free thought and faith should be our greatest weapon in life in combating our problems. i dont believe in actively trying to bring down IR, just like my brother Dabashi said; IR will fall on their own as do all corrupt governement, instution and even people. so, i do agree with you on not classifying the rainbow thing :D where did you come up with that? that was very poetic; nice analogy.
"let's not kid ourselves" with "my interactions with iranians.."
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Sun Dec 26, 2010 08:29 AM PSTYou answered my question Tabriz and I'll give you back your own statement as the answer to your question.
All I say to you my friend is be careful not to kid yourself with what you think people in Iran think about the regime, let alone trying to categorise people based on that perception.
You asked what I think: I believe people are like a rainbow where there are no discrete divisions between the colours of the spectrum forming it. I have taken the view that what people need is a society where they are free to think, read, study and form their own opinions on life matters. To create that society, we need to actively fight and eradicate divisive social class differences which are the main cause of all social evils:Hunger, poverty, ill education, joblessness, crime, prostitution, you name it. Some call this socialism. You call it what you want.
va salam, nameh taman!

Roozbeh_Gilani
by tabriz_balasi on Sun Dec 26, 2010 08:12 AM PSTlet's not kid ourselves; i say this based on my interaction with iranians, in person and online; am i allowed to form a conlucsion based on my personal experience or not? the data is based on my own samplings. I might be wrong, but i would like to hear your opinion based on your interactions with other people; maybe it will help me to use you as a sample in my data collection; with all due respect. go ahead, i'm all ears; how do you classify iranians as it relates to their opposition to IR. Yes, we all hate it, but we need to be more specific than that. because there are some people that i have less in common that the guy that support A.N.
Jebheye Melliye Iran and the leftists (like dabbashi) made a big mistake to join Khomeini in their revolution against Shah and they payed a big price. i don't want to make that mistake and unite with people that I don't agree with on core issues.
"there are three groups of Iranian"...
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Sun Dec 26, 2010 07:54 AM PSTReally? And could you please provide some data on which your bald statement is based Mr tabriz-balasi? Once you done that we can discuss your conclusions (and Mr Dabashi's) from a more informed and factual perspective and by all means "chew on it and learn about our society"!!!.
"Personal business must yield to collective interest."

by tabriz_balasi on Sun Dec 26, 2010 07:38 AM PSTFirst thing you said that I agree with; there are three groups of Iranian; one group that are the supporters of IR; second group don't support IR and want it destroyed but not at any cost, they are very careful in their opposition to IR; the third group that consists mostly of the mojahedin and monarchist want to see IR come down at any cost, even if it means some kind of attack on Iran's facilities. I am a member of second group (just like dabashi) and have more in come with the supporters of IR than the third group; even though I have so little in common with the supporters of IR, but when i see people like you, it forces me to side with the first group than the third group. chew on this for while; maybe you'll learn something about your own society;
Arthimis
by masoudA on Sun Dec 26, 2010 07:15 AM PSTDo you agree that as of last years elections - ANYONE who still supports the Islamic Republic or reforms within the IR can no longer be considered one of us? So many of our youth drew the line last year - please do not allow the sacrifices go to waste.
BTW - more and more we have in Iranian cyber communities youngsters with some or no Iranian background who push for IR agenda - directky or indirectly. Don't try to unite them with the anti IR cause - you'd be wasting your time. Note that indirect support of IR is sentiments such as: We support People's Vote!! or We support removal of Velayat Faghih....
Unification of Iranians is great and a must - but no everybody here ihas our agenda to free Iran from IR.
Good Show But Dabashi's Interview was a Lost Opportunity ...
by Darius Kadivar on Sun Dec 26, 2010 04:33 PM PSTThere were so many questions that Kambiz could have asked Dabashi Much of which I addressed in my critical blog a few months ago after seeing Dabashi's interview of the Talented Parazit Cast:
COLUMBIA PRESENTS: Academic Excellence With Hamid Dabashi & Sadri Bros
Here are a few questions I would have liked to get an answer for:
1) Why the recurrent Jealous rants towards individuals like Azar Nafisi or Abbas Milani both of whom are equally respected Academics like him or more recently against an Iranian Secular colleague Aramesh Doustdar ?
Secular Colleague Aramesh Doustdar for expressing his views on Islam in a correspodence he had with a German philosopher Jürgen Habermas. ( See Dabashi and Sadri's Related Open Letter Here and Masoud Nogreh-kar's Antagonist Secular Response Here).
2) Why did he and his wife Golbarg Bashi not condemn the Tehran Holocaust conference ?
I recall how his wife or companion Golbarg Bashi went as far as blame the Pahlavi's for the Nazi Holocaust. An attitude shared by other pseudo academics which due to Pro Palestinian sentiments were ready to distort history for political calculations.
An absurd attitude which prompted Abbas Milani to defend the Pahlavi's and Iranians behavior during WWII notably towards Jews:
Iran, Jews and the Holocaust The beneficent legacy of Persia remembered by Abbas Milani (San Francisco Gate
And why did they not join other's in the Iranian Diaspora Intelligenstia to take a stand against the Conference at the time:
Iranian Diaspora Intelligentsia Unite Against Islamic Republic's Holocaust Revisionism by Darius KADIVAR
3) What was the Source of his conflict with Ahmad Batebi ?
Batebi versus Dabashi by jigsawnovic
4) Why does Mr. Dabashi keep insisting that the Green Movement is merely a Civil Rights Movement and Not an attempt for Regime Change ?
Flynt Leverett & Hamid Dabashi: Iranians do not want to overthrow the regime
5) What makes Mr. Dabashi think that the Current IRI constitution is More Legitimate than the 1906 Constitution which the late Shapour Bakhtiar wished to see Restored upon Regime Change ?
Sokhanrani Dr. Bakhtiar be monasebat Mashrutiat ( Last Public appearance before his assassination tow years later)
Pro Bakhtiar Demos demanding the Respect of the 1906 Constitution
6) Why is Palestinian cause such a priority to Iranian's Struggle for Democracy as he claimed it in one of his programs "Week in Green" ?
NA GHAZE, NA LOBNAN, JANAM FADAYE IRAN!
7) What does he think of his friend George Galloway's Stauch Support of the Official IRI Election Results and his appearances on Press TV where he hosts his own program live from London until recently ? George Galloway on Iran's Elections
Unfortunately as I suspected this interview turned into what Dabashi wanted it to become and that is about his Patronizing compliments on Parazit rather than a genuine and uncompromising interview of Dabashi's stance.
If I can humbly make an observation it is the following:
If there is a lesson to be taken is that a Journalist and Satirist should try and avoid Conflict of Interest by giving interviews to someone like Dabashi before interviewing that person First:
Dabashi interview of Parazit's talented presentators Kambiz Hosseini and Saman Arbabi
Otherwise it becomes very difficult to remain impartial at the risk of offending or hurting one's feelings or feeling indebted to a person for their "kind" interview.
Clearly Dabashi escaped accountability for his opinions once again.
Better Luck Next time.
Best,
DK

You are entitled to your own opinion and faith, you love it and completely surrended yourself to it, good for you and good luck to you. it is your personal choice in your own individual life, No one has the right to want you to be or act otherwise! But may I ask you NOT to bring in your religion into Iran's discussion and fate as an ancient civilization that taught humanity Goodness on all levels and has existed over a thousand year before Islam with her own glorious historical records of Love and Compassion for humanity in general...
Dear ham -meehan, we all have our own beliefs and rightfully so... as long as we don't attack one another ... (with the exception of I.R. people who have proven their crimes against Iranians and humanity in general ...) I honestly believe the ONLY common denominator for all of us here is Iran and our love for her!!! Iran is the ONLY thing we can become UNITED for!!! So, let's focus on that alone to avoid any further arguments and name calling by the ones who don't see eye to eye with us on other things EXCEPT for Iran.
Thank you again and Free Iran and Iranians.

Of corse your ilk quickly gets to name calling......where did bombing the people of Iran come from? I guess it came from the same logic that made me a Moslem hater. If you must know - I dislike all religions...... I think they are the biggest obsticle between man and his creator - but that is too complex for your level..
As for you - So you think the Islamic Republic is capable of conducting a FAIR election!!! as per Khatami Election!!! So you see nothing wrong with the Process of 6 people - Velayat Faghigh and Shoraye Negahban telling a whole nation who they can select from....but more importantly - you seem to not have a problem with a society that favors people of one faith and gender over others.........that my young friend is backward. Very backward.
