Reuters: Iranian opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi pledged to press ahead with efforts to reform the Islamic Republic despite a crackdown on protests after the disputed June 12 presidential poll, his website said on Sunday. Rights groups say thousands were detained after the vote, and more than 100 people, including former senior officials, remain in jail. Three have so far been sentenced to death. "Our people are not rioters. Reform will continue as long as people's demands are not met," Mousavi's Kaleme website quoted him as saying. "Keeping these people in jail is meaningless. They should be released as soon as possible," Mousavi said in a meeting with relatives of detained former deputy Foreign Minister Mohsen Aminzadeh, Kaleme said.

Farah rusta jan, well, let me explain it to you.
by پیام on Mon Oct 19, 2009 10:36 AM PDTYou seem to need an explanation. I don't know on which planet you have been living for the past 30 years, but Iranians really are not that naive to think that Mousavi was going to change that much. The nature of Iran's governance doesn't allow him to.
Yes I call him my president because I voted for him and because of his clear victory, which you failed to notice, in the recent so called presidential election in Iran. Among the 4 candidates, he had the majority of the votes and that is to be respected. But I guess some people are never convinced, even when things are so clear.
Though every Iranian, you included, are aware of the so called "democratic" way of the selection of presidential candidates in Iran and being fully aware of the fact that they never really had any choices in i.r., people this time around decided (unlike the last election of 1384) to take advantage of the only right given to them by i.r. haroomzadeh's. To go and cast their votes to the most favourable candidate among these 4 Stooges, in the hope to have a change of governance and improvment of their lives. Once even that right was taken away from them, it was no more bearable for them to act like happy voters and that nothing had happened. So they protested and we all now how barbaric the regime is opposing any protests.
Excessive violence used by i.r unveiled the true face of the regime to Iranians and the rest of the world and caused for people's complaint to be beyond the fraud in the recent election. Since the current regime in Iran proved beyond reasonable doubt to be immoral, unethic and corrupt, Iranians now not only demand their vote to be returned to them, they now demand the regime to be dismantled and want a fundamental structural change in Iran's governance.
Let me assure you that I as all Iranians will not give up our demands and we will continue our struggle untill democracy is established in Iran.

by Khar on Mon Oct 19, 2009 10:51 AM PDTPlease leave this video on the first page as long as possible. I know he repeats the name of the 13th Imam many times, but today we are not confronting a dead man. Today Sepah, Seyed Ali and Mahmud AN are the ones we are up against and as you correctly mentioned he is not showing any signs of backing down and for that and his courage he deserve our support.
Also I don't think Mousavi is blind to the fact that Iranian people have no use for IRI or the Khomeini anymore, and that is why he mentions Melli and Mellat numbers of times in this interview.

by MRX1 on Mon Oct 19, 2009 07:51 AM PDThow much taryak is this boring payband khat imam consumes on a daily basis? Really sad time in history of the country that we have people like him in charge....
Please Pay Attention to...
by masoudA on Mon Oct 19, 2009 07:56 AM PDT1- IRI has some 2-3000 of our kids in jail - and won't hesitate to kill them all if they are proven to be "Bar-Andaz" - Seeking to overthrow the government. Therefore, Moussavi must be (and has been) very careful on how he presents this movement - not just for his sake but to protect all those in Jail - as well as all who will participate in future demonstrations.
2- Rest assured - Moussavi will not have any government or leadership position in the post IRI era and his current activities will only result in gaining nation's forgiveness - and he knows that.
Analysis by who and when?
by Farah Rusta on Mon Oct 19, 2009 07:24 AM PDTYou mean analyses by the pro-Mousavi analysts and AFTER the Green movement (in Iran) was hijacked by Mousavi supporters? Please watch your own words: "it is beyond Mousavi now." but then you are still stuck with calling him President!
FR
There has been enough analysis why Mousavi is the winner.
by پیام on Mon Oct 19, 2009 06:57 AM PDTSo I am not going to try to convince you of that. But as you mentioned, it is beyond Mousavi now. The wave of killings, rapes, tortures and the illiegal imprisonments have cleared any exsisting doubt about the "khabisness" of AN and ali geda. So it actually doesn't matter who was the actual winner anymore. What now matters is to get rid of the brute forces that conducted those killing and ....
Did he win? I am not sure
by Farah Rusta on Mon Oct 19, 2009 06:43 AM PDTIn the immediate aftermath of the June election and before the green-mania (Mousavi faction) gained full momentum, the impartial pundits were reluctant to declare Mousavi as the outright winner. The concensus among these experts was that it was an Ahmadinejad win, albeit with a narrow margin. A second round looked amost inevitable. But soon after the green-mania was in full swing, it was no longer fad to doubt Mousavi's overall win as you would have fallen from public's favor and were regarded as non-green.
This is why it is very important to distinguish between the Mousavi-greens and the Secular-greens.They are opposite to one another.

I wish he won
by Abarmard on Mon Oct 19, 2009 05:47 AM PDTBut Iran and good news don't go hand in hand.
There is one positive point about all the events that took place and that's the prove that the regime doesn't want to be reformed or open up.
The recent analysis that wants to put a rosy picture about the regime in Iran, has compared the future of Iran similar to middle line between Turkey and Pakistan!
After thirty years of suffering and standing as a role for a possible system to be implemented around the Islamic world, now people need to wait twenty years more to have a system similar to Pakistan today?
The system has not left many options on the table.

by Bijan A M on Mon Oct 19, 2009 04:42 AM PDTMaybe respectable traits for him, but where does he stand on the question of separation of religion and politics?
If he talks unity in terms of prolonging the rule of theocracy (in one form or another) he must be hallucinating. There is no unity between democracy and theocracy.
Has he ever commented about secularism? I would appreciate if someone could provide a link.

Reading between the lines
by Shifteh Ansari on Mon Oct 19, 2009 01:12 AM PDTOver the past weeks, there has been growing noise about a "solution finding" group of regime "wise men" who are supposedly reaching consensus on how to deal with the crisis of legitimacy which has unfolded in Iran. These "wise men" are none other than IRI's Jurassic Park of dinosaurs, Hashemi Rafsanjani, Mahdavi Kani, and Asgaroladi among others.
I believe the significance of this video and its timing is in Mousavi's subtle reference to the fact that he knows nothing about the recommendations of the "solution finding" team, as they have not contacted him verbally or in writing. How can any team reach a viable solution without including the leader of the green movement in their discussions?
I think in making that fact known subtly and strongly, Mousavi is witholding blind approval for the possible pile of rhetoric which the Hashemi team might be getting ready to announce as "the way out." Mousavi acknowledges that there is no "way out" except for people's will to win over the rulers' whim.
I agree with JJ. Mousavi may not be terribly charismatic, but he is a brave man.

by yolanda on Sun Oct 18, 2009 10:00 PM PDTKhamenei is sick, senile, and dying, (I guess) so Mousavi is getting bolder.... Mousavi looks a little emaciated.....title of the you-tube video is called "President Mir Hossein Mousavi Interview", it is quite interesting. Who are calling him president? Is he ready to take over or what? The timing of this video is also interesting 'cause we had the rumor of Khamenei's imaginary death several days ago. Something intriguing is going on...
Thank you, Khar, for the music video link. I watched it.
thanks,

by Jahanshah Javid on Sun Oct 18, 2009 09:29 PM PDTI doubt he will be allowed to continue making speeches on the internet. How dare he bypass the censors?! Who is he to undermine Khamenei's authority?!
He does refer to Khomeini as his idol way too often, but you've got to admire his courage nevertheless.

Lyrics to Peace Train:
Now Ive been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun
Oh Ive been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day its going to come
Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again
Now Ive been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun
Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller
Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train
Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause its getting nearer, it soon will be with you
Now come and join the living, its not so far from you
And its getting nearer, soon it will all be true
Now Ive been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why cant we live in bliss
Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again
