Speaking of our 1998 team

by KouroshS (not verified) on

Speaking of our 1998 team ... that was the second best squad of footballers, next to the one in the early and mid 70's, our country ever witnessed. The 2006 team had a few young talents, karimi, teymourian and hashemian... who made waves here and there, but did not really put up much of a game. The team that is fighting it way to the final round of 2010 has been the biggest dissapointment so far. It consists of so many talented players, but unfortunately with a coach like dayi, we always see the oddest combination of playes in the field... So many players from recent years need to be given more play time.. Nikbakht, rasool kazemi, madanchi..

I would go ahead and nominate SEYED MEDI RAHMATI as the BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT player of the year. If it were not for this guy, we would not obtained the scores we have so far and it would have been a virtual soorakh, soorakh against even the weakest teams in the region. Never seen anyone like this guy, his skills, his excelllent judgement and techniques, since hejazi and soltani.

Because let's face it, after all that has been said and done, all the coaches that have come and gone, we don't yet have a reliable and solid defense line. ALthough i should give Sadegi and Aghili credit. And khalatbari is another player we should keep our eye on.

LOL.
SHake it easy everyone.

Nuts

by Ajam (not verified) on

He is a nutcase. In the 1998 WC qualifier against Qatar, he broke into temper tantrums and fights with the players in half-time (altercations with Daei and slapping Azizi in the face) which resulted in Iran losing to the lowly Qatar 2-0 and being prevented from automatically qualifying for the WC -- whereas a tie would've done the job! It was the Brazilian Valdier Viera who restored the team and eventually made it to WC by beating Australia 3-2 on aggregate.

Reza-Rio de Janeiro

1998 WORLD CUP !

by Reza-Rio de Janeiro on

There is a similar story about Mohamad Mayeli Kohan's actions as Iranian National Team's coach (Filme Hendi) back in 1998 WorldCup qualification.

The story is as such:

Iran was 0-1 behind China at the half time. (In China)

There were reports from Team Melli players at that time that Mayeli Kohan during Half Time (in dressing room) broke down in hysterical tears, started beating himself up and  beged Team Melli players down on his knees (Baa Ghasam va Aayeh, Joone Madaratoon, Joone tamam familtoon) asking them not to lose that day and he was in such disturbing condition that Team Melli players felt so bad and sorry for the guy and went back to score 4 beautiful goals against China in second half to win the game in Chinese turf (Ba yek bazie gheyrati Irooni), thus pave the way for Iran's qualification in France 1998. After that match, Mayeli got a job offer from Chinese for club mangement as they were astonished by his (Ghamar bani hashemi's) startegies and tactics in second half of that game also known as "The Coach's half"!!!

Whether this story was True or not , It worked and Iran went further to finally participate in World Cup after 20 long years. Of course after few more weak results with TM, he was fired by IFF later to paved the way for the help of a great Croat coach called Ivic, later the Brazilian Viera and finally Jalal Talebi as a final head coach for Iran to participate in 1998 in World Cup France....

Be Omide oon roozi ke Salahiyat in joor Ashkhas bar taasoobeshon ghalabe koneh.

Zende O Payande baad IRAN...

There is nothing wrong with thanking providence when you feel blessed. The reason this clip is funny is that the coach's religiosity seems so obviously faked and overly sentimental and obsequious.

He's asked the question - makes a quick calculation - and proceeds to spontaneously get choked up.

What is wrong with some of you?

by Ca_wanderer (not verified) on

Do you guys ever watch ESPN or any other sport station? Half the players and coaches thank god for their win. Is it only wrong when an Iranian does it? Get a life.

God's loss?!

by Ajam (not verified) on

As a matter of fact the reporter asks him about his record after taking over Saipa (7 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss in nine games) and this clown pulls such a stunt! If god was on his side, why would he/she/it let him lose a game? In that case Chelsea's Jose Mourinho who won the premier league a few years back without conceding a single loss must be Emam-e Zaman himself!!! What a loser!

This referee is the same one

was he talking about emam

by azadi55 (not verified) on

was he talking about emam zaman or god? this is funny, sad, and stupid all combined. if a player scores or if a team wins they credit god or some emam, and if the team loses, whose fault is it?

Not funny, he was trying to

by yasi (not verified) on

Not funny, he was trying to be modest, like saying god did it, not me. I din't find anything wrong with this. It is a common way of expressing yourself.

example:

person 1: are you going on vacation next year?

person 2: ageh khoda bekhad, baleh.
