Michael Kamrava

Fertility specialist

A woman enters the Beverly Hills, Calif., building Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 where the clinic of Dr. Michael Kamrava is located (above). The Southern California mother of octuplets was implanted with embryos at a Beverly Hills fertility clinic run by a well-known -- and controversial -- specialist who pioneered a method for helping women conceive. Dr. Michael Kamrava's name emerged Monday as a result of an interview aired Monday on NBC with Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight babies Jan. 26. Over the past two weeks, the identity of Suleman's fertility doctor has been a source of great mystery because of questions over the ethics of implanting numerous embryos in a woman who already had six children. Kamrava, 56, did not immediately return a pager message left by The Associated Press, and a receptionist at his clinic near Rodeo Drive said he was not giving interviews. Without identifying the doctor, the Medical Board of California said last week it was looking into the Suleman case to see if there was a "violation of the standard of care." The medical board said Monday it has not taken any disciplinary action against Kamrava in the past >>>

Another greedy Iranian doctor. Does he not undersand the consequences of what he has done? We the taxpayers have to foot this bill in a time that is so depressed. The children should be taken away from the mother and the doctor's license needs to be revoked and a penalty must be assessed.

Greed in and of itself is not a reason why his license should be revoked.

His license should be pulled because he placed his patient in harm's way by implanting so many embryos, as though she were an Easy Bake Oven. He also placed those children in harm's way by deliberately creating a gestational environment that any idiot knows would never have resulted in anything even close to a full-term pregnancy.

Pull his license for that, and for not referring this clear-cut basket case wackjob for a mental heatlh evaluation.

LICENSED REVOKED

by LUCY (not verified) on

FIRST OF ALL DR KAMRAVA SHOULD HAVE HIS LICENSED REVOKED FOR BEING A GREEDY HUMAN BEING AND NOT IN THE LEAST BIT CONCERNED OF THE FINANCIAL BURDEN HE HAS PUT UPON THE STATES TAX PAYERS. SECOND, THAT WOMEN HAS NO RIGHT RECEIVING CUSTODY OF THOSE PRECIOUS LITTLE ONES WHO WILL REQUIRE SPECIAL ATTENTION FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES AND WE ALL KNOW SHE CANNOT MENTALLY OR FINANCIALLY PROVIDE. JUST LOOK AT THE MESS SHE HAS BUT THOSE OTHER 6 CHILDREN IN AND THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS. SOMEBODY PLEASE WAKE UP AND COME TO THE RESCUE/PROTECTION OF ALL OF HER CHILDREN AND CHECK HER INTO A MENTAL INSTITUTION. SHE IS DEFINITELY SICK.

you're correct that it is not the doctor's ultimate responsibililty to evaluate her financial situation.  however he does carry the burden of determining her mental state.  he absolutely could have said no!!!!!  he's under investigation and hopefully will be determined to have been negligent in her care.  apparently some of his credentials are suspect.  he's not going to pay for those babies.  she's not going to pay for those babies.  you and i ARE going to pay for those babies.  you can bitch and scream all you want but it's a fact and ain't nothin going to change it until the whole welfare system is reformed.

maybe brad and angie will adopt some of them!

The question is not whether she could afford the procedure. The doctor has a responsibility not to put a patient in harm's way.

8 embryos in one uterus is simply dangerous. That is one irresponsible act. And being that the woman already had six children, three of which have special needs, there is no way that it would be considered responsible to implant 8 more. Even if she was a billionaire.

Before anything else, the woman should have been referred for psychiatric evaluation, which likely would have proven that she has some serious issues.

This is just bad any way you look at it.

Whose responsibility is it?

by Opinions are like ******** (not verified) on

First of all let me say that if anyone goes to a fertility clinic they go with the notion that they will be given the service in which they are going for.

It is not now, nor has it ever been the doctors responsibility to judge wether a person can afford a child (or more in this case). I do think he should have said something about already having 6 and tried to convince her she didn't need anymore. But who is to say he didn't? And if he did, who is he to tell her no because she decided againt his advice?

If I were to go to a fertility doctor and he told me that he wouldnt *fertilize* me because he judged that I didnt have enough money... well that is just rediculous. It is not his right to ask how much money I have. Do you ask people on the street how much money they make? No. Have any of your other doctors asked you how much money you make? No.

Come on people, maybe the doctor was wrong with inplanting so many, and causing the octuplets, but it is a risk any women takes when going through with a procedure such as that.

So no, he shouldnt have to pay for the children. Nor should the state, it is her responsibility. She went through with the procedures of her free will. She knew how much money she had to care for children.

by JR (not verified) on

There needs to be a complete investigation at the State and Federal level. Dr. Michael Kamrava's medical license needs to be revoked by the California Medical Board. He is a highly irresponsible doctor and a threat to public safety.

it absolutely IS the responsibility

by anonymous fish on

of the doctor to inquire into the mental stability of his patients.  if he was interested in anything other than MONEY, he would have never attempted this procedure. at the very least there should have been a mental evaluation.

let me clarify that it's not HIS sole responsbility but clearly this woman is unstable and he should have referred her to someone who would help her, not encourage her.

Is this Doctor the father of her children?

by Curious (not verified) on

Dr. Kamrava implanted all 14 of Nadya Suleman's embryos. Suleman claims to have no money for these very expensive procedures. And, ONE anonymous man is the father of all 14 children. Hmm....

Is Dr. Kamrava possibly the father?

I would agree that 2 people

by A doc's opinion (not verified) on

I would agree that 2 people are at fault here. The lady is crazy and has no concept of reality or responsiblity. It is a shame she is getting all this attention. Fish reproduce in such a manner and don't care if their offspring live or die or who takes care of them. They simply lay eggs and that's it.

The doc is not dumb or stupid. He likely is caught up with the money thing, coming in LA. All you have to do is pay him. He would even fertilize a human with a donkey embryo if it were to work and payed well. I think he has transgressed medical ethics. Disciplinary action would likely come only if there is a specific law that prevents such a practice (that's how this society runs); otherwise, he'll get a slap on the wrist. We have to force him to take care of all the 14 children, paying child support.

I was reading comments and somehow that middle Eastern docs got a bad wrap from a radio host Ken. That idiot put Al Quaeda into the issue. He is just as dumb as the woman and the doc. IVF doesn't exist where Al Quaeda runs. It is a Western invention. It may be true that us Middle Eastern do more wrong things. But we also do more right things. Let him go see what good other Middle Eastern docs are doing. I don't think this problem is a middle eastern issue, but more of an LA issue, where money and status matter and people go through any means to get it. That talk shows host's wife (or husband) has probably had over 3 plastic surgeries and takes over 5 antidepressants--that is, if he can afford it.

Kaveh Nouraee

If this doctor

by Kaveh Nouraee on

indeed implanted all of these embryos, then he better have his license pulled by the state medical board.

The original Hippocratic Oath states:

"I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone."

This woman's unemployed, living on disability (!?!), and has 6 children already. The fact that her doctor is in Beverly Hills is meaningless with regards to her ability to afford the fertility treatment procedures. If you have health insurance, be it HMO or PPO and a doctor in Beverly Hills is listed in the insurance carrier's directory, the co-pay is still $10.00 or $20.00, whether you live in Beverly Hills yourself or in South Central L.A.

It is the doctor's responsibility because he presumably should know better. He went to medical school, served his residencies and internships and is licensed to practice medicine. This woman didn't. If the doctor is not held to a higher standard, then why are they licensed? Why are they required to attend and graduate medical school?

This idiot woman wakes up one morning and decided that she's going to turn her body into a factory and make babies the way Ford builds automobiles. Meanwhile the doctor has submitted all of the forms to the insurance company for compensation.

The human female uterus was not designed for eight fetuses at once. That's why you never hear of these multiple births ever being full-term. Even naturally conceived twins are often born early. There are way too many medical risks and dangers, both to the mother and to the fetuses, in the womb and long after they've been delivered.

Fourteen kids, none of them conceived naturally. This woman doesn't have a fertility problem, she has a mental problem.

Re: Didn't follow news closely

by alison (not verified) on

In fact, she CANNOT afford to raise 6, let alone now 14 children. She is a single mother, 33 years old, who lives with HER mother in a 3 bedroom suburban home. She receives about $500 a month in food stamps and she receives disability checks for 3 of her previous children, but is not saying what those checks are for. She was awarded $185,000 in a disability settlement in 1999 when she was seriously injured in a riot in a mental institution where she was working. She has no other source of income.

So no, she cannot afford them. On top of that, because these 8 babies were born so prematurely, people are guessing that she will soon use up her lifetime allotment of health insurance and will not be able to use anymore very soon to cover their medical costs. They also predict that insurance costs could raise just from this one woman's 8 babies.

And the doctor should not have treated her because it's a question of ethics. She already has six children, no job and no husband. I don't give a damn what her desire to be a mother is, six is five too many for this woman. She now has FOURTEEN CHILDREN. Those kids are not going to receive the care they deserve and they will forever be in the spotlight now because of this. Not to mention, she's selling herself and her story to news reporters in order to make money and has a publicist. Obviously this woman is crazy.

I didn't follow this news closely

by IRANdokht on

But if a mother of 6 goes to a fertility clinic in BH, it sounds like she should be able to afford to raise more than 6 kids without government help... right?

Is the fertility doctor supposed to question the motives of a mother of 6? yea I think so....

should he refuse to treat her? hmmmm   why?

Please tell me what is it that I am missing here...  Why is it  the doctor's responsibility to stop someone from doing something stupid? is he more at fault than the patient who's seeking the treatment and paying for it?

I am so confused!

Marge,

why do you put yourself through that lady? Having to read some nonsense here is enough to make me angry and more bitter than I like to be, so I listen to people who think like me or just to soothing music that calms me down...

The University of Al Qaeda.

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

I was listening to this hate filled radio station in Los Angeles, KFI AM and one of the astute radio hosts named "KEN" (not barbie's) said and I quote

This is the work of those doctors from the University of Al Qaeda. You know. those dingy doctors from weird countries like Lebanon. They are crappy doctors and they will do anything for money.

So what can I say. What do you say?

I guess it's upsetting that this doctor is going to reinforce someone's stereotypes of Al Qaedans like me. I think it's funny that these stations are so angry about this dumb woman and her dumb uterus like this, considering the GRAND THEFT NEST EGG that people like Madoff, Meryll Lynch and others committed.

Hate is a scary thing. You can miss what is really wrong if you are so blinded by your hate.
