Alieh Eghdamdoust

Unprecedented Three-Year Sentence for Women’s Rights Activist Implemented

Change for Equality: Alieh Eghdamdoust who had been sentenced to three years of mandatory prison as a result of her participation in the June 12, 2006 protest in Hafte Tir Square was transferred today under guard supervision to the Office of Implementation of Sentences at the Revolutionary Courts. Alieh Eghdamdoust, a woman’s rights defender, was arrested during the protest objecting to discriminatory laws against women in Hafte Tir Square in June 12 2006, and spent a week in prison. She was sentenced by the 15th security branch of the Revolutionary Courts to three years and four months mandatory prison sentence and 20 lashes. The appeals courts upheld three years of the mandatory prison sentence, reducing her original sentence by four months and 20 lashes>>>

International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran: The Iranian Judiciary should immediately release imprisoned women’s rights activist, Alieh Eghdamdoust, and end its prosecution of all women’s rights activists. The authorities arrested Eghdamdoust on 31 January 2009 in her hometown of Foman, north of Iran, to begin serving a 3-year prison sentence. Neither she nor her lawyers were informed about the results of her appeal, which was decided nearly a year ago in contravention of Iranian laws, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said>>>

All Women Deserve Equal Rights As Men

by Monbois (not verified) on

All women deserve the same rights as all men. They deserve the right to choose how they want to live their lives, whether they want to get married, stay home and raise children, work and raise children or work and have no children or stay home and have no children.

All women deserve the right to pursue their dreams, not the dreams chosen for them by medieval-minded men. They have the right to wear what they wish, go where they wish, think and believe what they wish and yes, sleep with whom they wish.

Girls and women in Iran do not have more rights than women anywhere else--they have far fewer. They live in constant fear of their lives should they even be perceived as stepping out of line in their male-dominated, religiosly oppressed country. Their existence is one of a crushing double-standard where girls as young as 12 can be hanged, boys at age 16. Iran is a nightmare for women, which is why so many try to escape. You don't see thousands of women from Europe and North America trying to get INTO Iran.

No man in this world has the right to dictate to a woman how she must live her life. No one person has the right to dictate to any other person, for that matter.

The world has suffered enough from insecure male arrogance. Let's put a stop to it now.

Yoy said it my friend !

That's exactly where your mind sways...(between NAAF & ZANOO) !!

Yes ! that's what ALL women in Iran want and fight for,

"taking their cloths off, having multi- bed- partners"

It's pretty obvious where the problem is........THIS kind of mindset !

Now...go ahead, play with your little buddy and make your little brain happy....:-)

woman raising her voice against inequality.

by hassan 2009 (not verified) on

Inequality?. What a rubish. There are more rights in Iran for women than anywhere else in the world. Your problem is identifying the RIGHTS. Taking your cloths off is not a man or a woman's right, having multi-bed-partners is not one's right.

Today in Iran women have more rights than men and by any standards more rights than those women in the west.

With greater accomplishments

With greater accomplishments social change is certain to follow specially when the indirect western inferiorty campaign aimed at the subconcious mind will have to come to a hault. I would think that's the most effective time to increase presure on the mullahs over freedom of speech and equality.

You can send 50 satellites into space, build a hundred nuclear power plants and discover the cure for cancer. They won't take away the shame of imprisoning a woman for raising her voice against inequality.
