AFP: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for "crippling sanctions" against Iran to stop its disputed nuclear work. After talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, Netanyahu also expressed hopes for a quick resumption of Middle East peace talks.

Benyamin, ditto...
by Ostaad on Sat Aug 29, 2009 09:52 AM PDTFor the life of me, I can't understand why the US has offered Iran to Russia on a silver plate!!!
Regarding the sanctions, I strongly believe they must be lifted as soon as possible to give Iran enough encouragement to enter the nuclear negotiations. With sanctions in place, and no direct talk of lifting them, the "carrots" the West is offering Iran are not worth a dime.
The existing sanctions have not made a dint in the regime's "behavior" but have made a lot its associates might rich. The "new sanctions" will only add to the everyday economic miseries of the middle/working class.
All sanctions must be lifted ASAP.

I share the name with this guy "Benyamin"
by Benyamin on Sat Aug 29, 2009 05:09 AM PDTBut I cannot trust him or his policies. I don`t believe "sanctions" are the way to go. If the West is looking for a solution that solution is "enabling" Iranians to get rid of this despitic regime and then try to mend relations based on "mutual respect". The West owes freedom to Iranian people. I amnot asking them to return it for us I am asking them to enable it since they stole it from us in the first place.
Israel isnot a reputable country and as the late Shah said over 35 years ago "Zionists by giving too much service and support are actually doing dis-servicing Israel" and the word TOO is a key word.
Today one of the most distrusted politicians from Israel is advocating sanctions!!! from one side he is not trusted by the Arabs and many in the west for what he stands for or has said in the past and from the other side it would be hard for Arabs to sit down and actually impliment sanctions against Iran where they both see a common "enemy" in Benyamin....lol.
To recap; I believe the West must come to its senses for 3 reasons and those are: Iran, China and Russia! Russia will play her role as an arrogant, uncool and unpopular country that still holds a great deal of power, so the West already knows that there is no hope there. China is rapidly becoming a threat to the Wests and it is coming up as a worthy rival! Meaning it will have enough power to counter the west`s interests and threatning it anywhere. India is already to the West`s side and she will be more and more as the years go by. It is Iran that will be the power that could contain China or if Iran is on China`s side the West is in alot of trouble! for Iranians we better be on the west`s side for our own good since the Dragon has a bad habbit of eating its prey and then spit it out!
So sanctions are "not" the solutions since it will push Iran more and more to China and Russia. FIND A DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS.

by k1s1000 on Fri Aug 28, 2009 07:24 PM PDTZio-Nazis throughout the history have been blood sucking creatures with no respect for other lives , livelihood, and humanity. They want to rape, destroy, occupy, kill, murder, sell body parts of children to make a buck, and .... They have no humanity in them. That is why they are hated by the world.

by Abarmard on Fri Aug 28, 2009 11:07 AM PDTI had no idea that Netanyahoo wants the Western governments to impose more sanctions on Iran. This must be a total backlash to the current Iranian policy makers. They need to re-plan their thinking and start over... ;)

Short of a Naval blocade...
by American Dream on Fri Aug 28, 2009 08:45 AM PDTShort of a naval blocade economic sanctions won't work. Even with a naval blocade which would prevent oil exports and all other exports there would have to be a land invasion as well as aerial bombings. NATO and all of Iran's neighbors will have to back up the west. America has troops in Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan and Turkmanistan. It will be a fast war and American tanks can roll down the streets of Tehran after 2 weeks of the war have begun. The best thing that the west can do is install a provisional government with a Iranian President who is 2nd or 3rd generation American whose ancestors immigrated from Iran. This individual must have American military training and have fought in Iraq or Afghanistan as an American soldier or marine. If this plan is put into place maybe the west will win in their battle again the "axis of evil".
With the hope that one day Iran puts a crippling sanction

Good going Nat
by mahmoudg on Fri Aug 28, 2009 06:51 AM PDTIf the world unites, we can run this regime out of Iran, without having to drop the bomb. But if the Europeans, Russians and Chinese want to continue bussiness as usual, then US and its allies will have no choice, but to flush the mullahs out of power by surgicall attacks.
