I remember this episode

I remember this episode well. Must've been Badiyi's lingering influence. Have to wonder though, would it have been too outlandish for one of the Iranian cast to mention to the American director that Mr Amir is more likely to be Mr Amiri if he's Persian. Or would that have confused American audiences too much?

Haha!

Columbo is one of my favorite series of all time! I remember this part really well and I remember how hard I laughed the first time I saw him get mad, mainly because I couldn't believe he was speaking Persian.

There's another episode of Columbo where he has a taxi driver as some sort of witness, and Columbo identifies him as Iranian. However, I believe his last name seemed Armenian (but hey, so does mine) and in the credits, I think he might have been an American in reality! But it's still great nonetheless. I think the producers of Columbo felt that Iranians should have some presence on the show, too, since the series was such a hit in Iran.

That is how Shaun Toub normally speaks English.

As far as "turning into a mad lout"... it's called acting.

Toub does a proper accent but suddenly turns into a mad lout when speaking Persian. Excessive.

That was great!

Especially love the ending! I can imagine Americans watching it and wondering "what the hell are they saying?", while we get a laugh seeing this on American TV as if it's our own little inside joke.
