No, I rather live under Shah any day of the week, rather than these liers. IR has destoryed Islam in Iran. it so sad. every population in middle east, arabs and turks, are returning to islamic values, the only country that is going back to unislamic and corrupt ways is the so called "Islamic" republic of iran. people more religous in Shah's time than right now, that should tell you something.

Wussy Monarch...

Even though Iranians probably hate Islamic Government in Iran, But they still would rather deal with these crazy Mullahs than a Monarchy...

Poetic justice!

by Ajam (not verified) on

The god-like despot (the shadow of god) who dissed those who did not join his Rastakhiz "party" as unIranian and told them to take their passports and leave Iran, is now begging for their mercy!
I wish Mossadegh was alive and could see this day!

God keep Iran zamin from lying and dryness of lands.

by Nicnafs (not verified) on

It was the first time that Shah did not lying, He wanted really give Iran to Iranians by Bakhtiar. We did not believe him. We gave Iran to whom that was lying for the first time ( Ayatollah Hkomeini). And history is repeated…

God keep Iran Zamin from lying and dryness of lands.

Strong shah, weak people

by Nader Khan (not verified) on

who ever thinks Mullahs are the right leaders to lead Iran to a modern FUTURE, good for them that they live out side IRAN and they should be commenting in arabic. unless they like to go back in time. Shah was surrounded with too many traders and greedy people who sold their country to the outsiders. He couldn't watch every body by him self but he had the right idea. Mullahs are stealing iranian sole and wealth and they can't be trusted to run Iran if they are good then are we writing in english rather in Farsi and in Iran

How can you say the Khomeini wanted good for Iran.He was uneducated and did not know how to write or read Farsi well.He had religious education not a formal education. When we have a person who has school education and had traveled the world you know he would select educated people to work for him.In other hand when you have Khomeini who had only religious schooling and had not set his foot outside Iran,he would select people based only on their royalty to him,and what IRI has brought us was over population, war, inflation and disrespect from a lot of countries.Eventhough the Shah was a puppet I wish I could turn the clock back and see him back again.

may you rest in peace. long live reza shah the second.

by persian dude (not verified) on

The shah was not a bad man. no one can remember what iran was like before reza shah's time. very very backward, the country was in a million pieces. we had advanced so far, socially and economically. democracy takes time. iranians are not ready for democracy. a country that sees women as second class and bahais as nothing is not ready for democracy. a lot of iranians still believe in this. i know its hard to stomach but its true, sorry. the shah was guiding us to there, a better society. can u remember when an iranian passport was worth something, iranian money was worth something, women were equal to men in law. democracy takes time. read english history for example.

he was not a bad man but someone who loved iran. may he rest in peace.
p.s what with this uneducated argument, he spoke 3 languages, how many people can do that? he did it over 30 years ago!

the reason you think i'm confused is because you're confused and you don't even know it. You have no values to base you judgment based on that. you look at actions but not the intention behind them. both shah and khomeini wanted good for iran. shah wanted iran to advance as fast as possible and catch up with the west, because he thought west's standard is the best. khomeini in the contrary didn't care for the west's values and thought islamic values are the best and they can bring honor, good worldy and spiritual life to iranian, and his evidance was the golden years of islamic advancement in spirituality, socience and politics (no one can deny that, so don't even go there with your screwed up logice). so both man wanted good for iranians and had good intentions. but frankly both were living in laalaa land, like you.

Khomeini's mistake: He didn't realize that he was no prophet Muhammad. you can not blindly take a nation on roud based on what happend in anciant history. The result is corruption of islamic values in the "Islamic" Republic of Iran. Iran is far from being "Islamic", not even close.

Shah's mistake: didn't know his own people. put too much faith in west and it's ideals. was not a true muslim. his life style was too westernize and at odds with the regular people living in Iran.

That said, If I had to choose between Khomeini and Shah to rule over Iran, I would definitely choose Shah with no reservation. eventhough I have most respect for Khomeini, but he took a dangarous road without having the required wisdom. and the evidance is in front of every one's eyes today.

But at the end of the day, even nation deserve what they get, and Iranians are no exception, based on most of people's comments on Iranian.coml

Parthian

I hate dictators...

by Parthian on

This includes all those who want all the power without accountability, and responsibility, those who are intellectually lazy, corrupt. He fits all those adjectives. What I hate most about him is that he always connected himself to the glorious Iranian (Persian and Parthian)  noble men and women, but when the time came for battle, he was like Darius III, left so many of his awesome, and courageous warrior to be exectured by barbarians, and uncivilized thugs overrunning the country. Shameful, absolutely shameful! A true king lives and dies with his men.

Suitcase Shah!

by erooni (not verified) on

I remember reading somewhere where the author was quoting from Reza shah as telling his son Mohammad reza that you are coward and you can not make a good king.In outside Iran he was known as suitcase shah .The name was in reference to him leaving Iran when there was some commotion in Iran.Countries need changes, that is why we have a republic systems in some countries. The Shah was never connecting to his people and he felt that people were under him and he thought he was going to be there till eternity. But I rather live under his regime and me and the rest of Iranians be happy than to live under current regime and be misreabble.

wrong speech at the wrong time

by MRX1 (not verified) on

when you have islamo facists burning banks and movie theathers( with people in them), when they are throwing acid at women, when they are attacking people with knife and bats and god knows what else, that's not the time to read some thing that has an appologitic tone to it.

The only language islamists underestand and respect is violence. it's simple really: Either they kill you or you kill them.
Unfortunatley both Shah and Bakhtiar and to some extent other people in top positions did not underestand this simple message. Sadly after thirty years many of us still don't underestand who we are dealing with.....

Shah poor guy

by Anonymous9999999999 (not verified) on

I support IR and at the same time I wish the Islamic Revolution never happened. I support Ir because I believe that if we're going to have a better gov. it only can happen with time and with collective sacrifice of all iranians, not in one or two days in the form of revolution, but through out their life time, by making sacrifices every day.

Shah wasn't a bad man or evil man. He simply wasn't fit to a king. He wasn't even cruel enough to be a king. He wasn't kind enough to be a good king either. He had below average intellect and this clip shows it clearly. If shah was not incompetant, the revolution, probably wouldn't have happened.

He couldn't even be honest with his people for 5 minutes. why do you need to read something from a paper in this important time in your countries history. why can't you just talk to your people. come on, you're the king. Who care if you say something wrong. People just want some sympothy, some honesty. they don't care about gramatical errors. talk to them like father to son. This Shah was simply not suitable to ruel iran. Eventhough I don't like Khomeini, but atleast he could pour his heart to his people, even with bad grammer and bad logic. that is why he could connect with people. when he spoke, he really wanted people to hear what the has to say. I hope God blesses both Shah and Khomeini. I love them both because both of them were really good people, but I don't agree with any of them. They both destroyed Iran.

Too little too late....

by ahvazi on

I remember this speech vividly. The Shah was a weak individual who did not learn from history. He talked about the great Persian culture yet he did not take the time to understand the myriad words of the great Persian poets that admonished the proud kings to be aware of the end of those who are arrogant and lose the Far.

The good news is that after every cycle of downfall (Shah), the destruction and darkness that follows (IRI) there is hope and there is the rebirth of the Iranian nation (Republic)

Man ke omidvaram.
