Close to John & Yoko

Photo essay: Day-long walk in Montreal

John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent some time at the Queen Elizabeth, during a “bed in” to protest the Vietnam War carnage in 1969. We didn’t spend much time in their bed, nor participated in the crazy Quebecois student protests. Frankly, life is too short to waste on politics or slumber. Instead, during our day-long walks, I again used the phone camera on some of the architecture; while the better halves used their pricy equipment to capture Kodak moments. I hate ruining buildings with people, or diminishing people with buildings. People are hard to read in a wide shot - they deserve nice portraits. Buildings are extravagant statements - and so great in revealing our daily ideals and nightly dreams.

Dear JJ: thanks for posting and commenting.

Anonymous observer: I had left the town's name out, and JJ thought it was NY. John and Yoko were suposed to do their North American bed-in by staying in NY, but couldn't get an entry visa to US.

Darius dear: you are very kind ... coming from your refined taste, it means a lot.

Anahid khanom: please consider visiting Montreal, and if you do, include Quebec city in your trip plans too. You will enjoy!

Dear John: Montreal is such a lovely lady, but one who has broken so many hearts, ever since the 1970's confusion and exodus.

Nice photos

You made wise selections in choosing your subjects.  Most of what I saw were buildings from Montreal's golden age, when the city was truly beautiful and dynamic.  Unfortunately Montreal is now in decline, in my opinion. literally falling apart before our eyes (infrastructurally and socially).  I've always loved my city, but I seriously want to go elsewhere now.

I had already heard that Montreal is a great place to visit (not in winter). Now that I see your pictures, I love their buildings too. Thanks for sharing.
