I wasn’t sure how to break the news, until here came the self-obituary of a fellow writer – so now you know.
“We” died 34 years ago; even though some of us will live for another thirty, forty years.
If it is any consolation, rest in peace that our enemies are dead too. Actually, the best part is that: it doesn’t matter anymore who our friends or our enemies were … because “we” are all dead.
I first noticed my death, when I revisited Iran after two decades. I went on a pilgrimage of all the familiar sites and souls: my college, my high school, the old house and some old friends. But everything had metamorphosed: university to Friday prayer grounds, high school to Basij center, nice house to ugly apartment, good friends to …
I had woken up to a complete metamorphosis! It wasn’t just that everything had changed beyond recognition; I too had been transformed beyond any existential ties to them. Like a ghost of a bygone era, I could pass through places and meet up people, without making any connections, without leaving any impressions.
Back again in the Americas, I knew for sure that my homeland had died, complete with a great deal of my culture and heritage. Sadly, I soon realized that I was dead too! I mean: What is a statement without context? What is a fish out of water? What is a bird in cage?
Well, in every good old ghost movie, the unhappy spirits come back from the dead, to haunt the living. Not surprisingly, they do it for a good reason. They often are trying to send an important message, warn the living of a danger, or teach them a lesson.
Soon, I found myself writing, for the first time. And that is what “we” the ghosts are all doing here. That is what all the writers have done before us: Preserving a moment past. Transferring a thought lost. Revisiting the labyrinths of life, now dead.
The funny side of our writing, like that of a jolly ghost story, is that we constantly have brutal and pointless fights with our fellow dead companions. Mosaddegh lovers attack Reza Shah. Shah followers curse the leftists. Mojahedin assault Khomeini …
It is very funny, because we try to hurt one another and stab each other with all we got; except that no one can sustain any injuries anymore … because “we” already are dead.

though it seems strange to me why narcissus desribes so well the USA, its belief in exceptionalism, unlimited success, harming others to attain it, the need for admiration and praise to the point that they created a hollywood for themselves to misrepresent the USA to the world, also scorning legitmiate criticism, lack of empathy for Palestinians, using absolute power both soft and hard to get compliance, believing those that took part in 9/11 was out of envy for US Freedom and why this does Not relate to the late shah or iran, who rose to power lawfully and maintained it lawfully against elements that acted unlawfully and were funded from outside iran, mullahs and commies in particular.
Have you ever wondered how twisted the Publics perceptions are today and were in the past on the USA and the Late Shah???????
Metamorphosis of Narcissus
by Shazde Asdola Mirza on Sat Nov 24, 2012 03:07 PM PSTabsorbed by his reflection
with the digestive slowness of carnivorous plants,
becomes invisible.
There remains of him only
the hallucinatingly white oval of his head,
his head again more tender,
at the tips of the fingers
of the mortal hand
of his own reflection.
When that head splits
when that head bursts,
it will be the flower,
the new Narcissus"

The Only way to change is in the present with real hope.
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sat Nov 24, 2012 07:10 AM PSTA Metamorphosis was happening during the time of the late Shah, it was brutally and massively opposed using deceit and betrayal and so a very different metamorphosis occured. Each individual based on their experience has a very different side of the truth to echo, so in the present better decisions are made. It is not that we have a perceived impotence, we genuinely have no real hope, the kind of hope which is based on something true. We are searching and if we find real hope things will change based on it. We know that if iranians continue based on the desire for having democracy now, we are continuing to act as iranians in the past did, based on cruel hope. Cruel hope would not exist if those harboring it, were aware of their own errors, and so long as they are not, the deceit will continue to work.
What is humorous and painful, is that after 33 years the vast majority of Iranians can not clearly see the problems they face caused by their views/desires, continuously misinformed by the media. One would image the intellect would kick in, but it does not seem to.

Various kinds of fighting and Hate and Love
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Fri Nov 23, 2012 09:58 PM PSTThis is more complex than meets the eye. Fighting for beliefs, views and ideas is one of the most beneficial processes, we need to discuss and debate more because it helps us consciously create as opposed to randomly create. This leads to one person one vote, which helps all sides to take honest actions, not that if 100 people vote for something and only 1 person votes for an opposing view, the 100 are right, they may be entirely wrong but they have an honest basis for acting and the one with only one vote in time will be recognized as the most just and equitable thinker, the first among the leaders and the more powerful in moving the many. Modern Mass Media and Propaganda is ruining this process and suppresses all individuals in the service of Interests. Physically fighting is far less beneficial.

Don't Confuse yourself ...
by ayatoilet1 on Fri Nov 23, 2012 07:53 PM PSTLosing a battle doesn't mean losing the war. It took Americans almost 100 years to get their democracy in place. It took the Brits over 400 years. If Democratic systems were easy to implement - then we wouldn't be on this website. Its like getting rich - if it was easy everyone would be rich. Democracy requires a tough enduring battle - which creates hard nose, experienced, and wiser candidates our of the process and stronger institutions - than with out it. The process of establishing and operating a democracy - has value in and of itself. You just don't get it!
We're still alive and kicking. And we will win democracy - where it is our right to win hearts and minds - with public fights. There is nothing wrong with fights! Nothing! In a democracy you want a good fight. A good debate. A good argument. A brutal public display - is all good. Makes for better decisions, policies and ultimately better leaders.
You are a coward or a dictator or both. It is only cowards and dictators that do not want to have fights. They are afraid of the good fight. They can not play to win. They do not have the courage of their convictions and of their positions - so they are avoiding the fight. The fight for votes is a noble fight. It is the fight for the right to decide your own and your nations destiny.
SA Mirza, if you are a loser - get out of our way. Because we will keep on fighting and Iran will be returned to its rightful free and democratic future. The difference between the men and the boys is right here. Men never give up, they never give in...and they keep on fighting till they have no air to breathe.
I am breathing. I am alive, We are alive. And, let the Missadeghis, duke it out with the Monarchists, and with the Khomeinists and the leftists. That is precisely what we want - in a democracy. And let the people through their right to vote - vote. No one is dead - only you are. Speak for yourself.
Nothing wrong with that.

by firstdayofmylife on Fri Nov 23, 2012 04:35 PM PSTThe only thing 'undead' is our hate; it is the only thing that sustains the living dead zombies. We feel alive when we 'hate'.
