Dominique Strauss-Kahn: 'Thunderbolt' news for France
bbc
01-Jul-2011 (12 comments)

In the words of the last Socialist Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin, "this is a thunderbolt".

Whatever the merits of this new evidence, whatever the character of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the French felt particularly aggrieved at the way the case was conducted in the days after his arrest.

It was not only his reputation that was tarnished, but also that of the French nation in the eyes of the international community.

The "perp walk", the parading of the accused, the headlines such as "Chez Perv" and "Frog Legs It", were widely perceived as insulting and humiliating.

I actually think Your General knowledge on Europe and Iranian history is quite good. I have observed it through your witty comments and feedbacks and blogs but more importantly you have a good sense of humor which is rare on IC ...

I don't have a problem with Jomhurykhahy either all the more that I said Constitutionalism is about implementing Republican Ideals within a Royal Framework:

ROYAL FORUM: Explaining the Concept of a Constitutional Monarchy to a Staunch Republican

The UK Model of government and respect for tradition is something I personally favor but if there were a model fit for Iran, I would most probably suggest the Spanish One given that I think as a people we share the same hot blooded and stubborn nature.

But what I don't like is the rampant hypocrisy of those who demand accountability from others but refuse it to themselves.

I think 32 years after 1979 and more than 58 years after the So called Coup the minimum honesty on behalf of any Iranian patriot regardless of what they believe in is to acknowledge that history is not Black and White.

For the rest well like all things one can agree to disagree but there should always be room for debate.

My frustrations with Iranian Jomhurykhahs is that they are not even ready to debate. Even when proven wrong based on logical arguments they get all Ehsassaty and dismiss you merely on political prejudice not based on what you have said. As a matter of fact running out of arguments that prompts them at best to become aggressive.

That to me is more of a sign of their own intellectual insecurity than sheer and sincere conviction.

Thanks for the correction.

As I wrote in one of my blogs, I wasn't studying French too hard when I was in college and I guess it shows now. And all the new stuff that I have learned in France, I have learned them at places like Lameloise around Dijon!

I am cool with Monarchists and Reza Pahlavi, but I prefer a Republic more like France (where you live) or the US (where I live). I just don't see the point of paying for somebody like Prince Charles to go around partying and playing polo! I would rather spend my discretionary income to support the life style of my favorite movie stars or athletes!

It seems though that in today's French Republic it's practiced by Gauche Caviar Left Wing Socialists who often claim to speak in the interests of all the worlds paupers and boast to be the only ones to have an opinion on every subject of public concern ranging from  Human Rights, to Gay rights to climate change to women rights to world citizenship ,  you name it as if  they had the upperhand in all things when it comes to "Morality" But refuse accountability when they themselves fall short on the above issues ...

You know very much like You fellow Iranian Jomhurykhahs and other Shirin Ebadi groupies when it comes to claiming to give lessons in democracy and Human Rights:

All One needs to do to come across as Virtuous in the Public Eye and Smell like a Rose in history books and Liberal Circles is to Speak in the Name of the "Masses" ...

That then entitles one to be qualified as Virtuous, Scholarly and an Intellectual in the IRANICAN Mind ...

French Maids!

by Faramarz on

There is a French term, Droit du Seigneur which means that the master of the house has the right to his servants' daughters to remove their virginity. And therein lies the French rich and powerful's attitude towards maids.

In the old days before a maid was married, the master would do the "quality check!"

I am sure that Dariush knows all of this. It is good to be Da King!
