Islamic republic take note!

Come January 20, the contentious two-term Bush Administration will hand over the reins of power to the Obama Administration. During its entire eight years, especially the recently concluded two year long Presidential race, the Bush Administration has been roundly vilified by its political adversaries.

Aside from the politicos with access to the traditional mass media, assisted by the great equalizer, the internet, the public at large including non-American borns and particularly students have had their say too. At times the strong feelings free from the customary decorum have taken the form of a blood feud, turning it into a public name calling undertaking.

In the Islamic republic any slight indiscretion towards the officials, above all the Supreme Leader, is a crime. The usual catch all charge in such cases is “activity against national security”.  Countless Iranians including many jailed students and bloggers are paying dearly for publicly expressing their less than approving opinion of the Islamic officials. Please note as of now not a single such a case of prosecution has been reported to have taken place in the U.S.

Indeed!

by Ajam (not verified) on

IRI should take propaganda lessons from the US if it wishes to perpatuate its hold on people's lives a la Etats Unis! With a little practice and a huge increase in its propaganda budget, IRI too can make people believe they live in freedom while controling their lives in a quasi-fascistic manner!

Of course it takes drastic revisions on IRI's part on its crude propaganda methodes in favour of a more sophisticated one. Just like in the US that people enjoy the freedom of calling George Bush and his family any name they like, as long as they SUPPORT the TROOPS.
In fact one wonders if any American has questioned the integrity of the troops and lived to tell about it! Why is that? If there's real freedom in the US, how come no reporter has questioned the criminal conducts of their troops in Iraq and elsewherre in the world? How come no one can question the unconditional US support for Israel and still keep his/her livelihood? Why no one questions what happend to the trillions of dollars , missing from the market, that the future generations of Americans woud have fork up?!

Nonetheless, there's enough freedom for millions of people to call Obama a Moslim terrorist, demand his death and get away with it! That's freedom baby...

Yes indeed, IRI still has a lot to learn

Your seemingly relevant emnations are one sided.

The world without America will pretty much look like as it did prior to existence of America. Countries like Iran and the ME would be more backward and despotic and no sign of modernity. Iran would have been divided between the Russians and the Brits and so on. There would have more wars, less liberty,
less economic prosperity throughout the world, less progress in science, industrialization, innovations, and so on. Yes, America is not perfect but it has contributed to humanity more than any group of people in history even at its worst.

Kurush: The US and the Brits installed the Islamic Republic to do their bidding in the region; though the puppet sometimes become too unruly but it's still cost-effective to deal with its temper tantrums once in a while.

Why would the military industrial complex want to bring democracy to Iran?? There is no profit in that.

As long as the US supports the mullahs there will no democracy in Iran. You're too naive to believe that this game of "animosity between the two countries is not preordained.

The die is already cast.

A world without America?

You have to be careful now. Your idea of democratically secular Iran might not be what the policy planners have in mind in Washington and London. The latter use your language deceptively but do not mean what they utter. When they talk about democracy in Iran they have in mind the Iran under the allies' occupation after the fall of Reza Shah. True there were all kinds of factions during and after WWII but Iranian politicians literally lined up at the British embassy to get their instructions and pay. In the impoverished Iran, the British were using the proceeds of Anglo-Iranian oil company (Iranian only in name) to keep the Iranian politicians, the movers and shakers in Iran, in their pay. The democracy they have in mind for Iran is one of internecine factionalism not unlike those in Iraq, thus to obtain a weakened central governemnt with chaos raging,in short, divide and rule. Bertrand Russell at the height of the Vietnam War said something that is as true today as it was then. He had formed a committee against the Vietnam War which included Jean-Paul Sartre to protest the inhumane bombing of Vietnam by the American government. Russell said, and I paraphrase, there is scarcely a military coup, a civil war, or civil turmoil or disturbance, or a war, in the world in which the US government in one way or the other is not involved, or has not instigated it. So what the world would be without the good ol'US? Ever since WWII, the militaristic posturing of the US and its military expendidture (600 billion today) has created an unusual and unnatural state of unease and instability which forces national governments to spend more and more and more of their scarce resources on weapons than on educating their population, feeding them and providing decent healthcare. The glutonous use of the Earth's natural resources by the USA (25% of world oil production for instatnce) has put dramatic pressure on prices of this vital commodity which the develpping and poor countries can ill afford at such exorbitantly high price. Another example, Haiti which produced its own rice and fed its population, after the forced removal of Aristide government, had to allow the US agribusiness free access to its markets. Consequently, the US agribusiness overnight drove Haitian farmers out of business. Now Haitians are completely dependent on imported food. When the US had its foot in the door, it did the same in Iran. So what would the world look like without a parasitic US? Very peaceful and prosperous.

Kurush:
Why is it that when trying to defend unworkable idiotic islamic principles, people always use seemingly relevent examples of The West at it's worst?
America on its worst day is still far superior to anything islam can offer.

IR's response to Muslims

by sickofiri (not verified) on

IR's response to Muslims attack in India:

Iran-President
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that the Islamic Revolution of Iran is not limited to specific geographic or national borders.

"The Islamic Revolution is a deep and decisive move for all human beings," said the president during a ceremony to honor Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi.

Noting that the global arrogance was collapsing, the president said that the awakening people of the world were seeking great thoughts of the Iranian nation.

Referring to the present situation of the world, President Ahmadinejad stressed that further "strengthening of the Islamic system is the great duty of all Iranians."

Counterproductive

by Shahriar Zangeneh on

By expecting Utopian characteristics from a Democracy one is setting himself up for a rude wakening. As far as the Islamic Republic not claiming the leadership of world freedom, a closer attention to statements from all levels of its functionaries would provide ample contradictory evidence. And as the number two per capita leader of executions in the world, second to China with 1.25 billion population,  getting into judiciary comparison is at best counterproductive.

The Us Prison Population

by Kurush (not verified) on

is, you are ready for this? 2.2 million, yes the leader of the free world which exports liberty and democracy around the world has 2.2 million of its population incarcerated. All sources agree that this is the highest percapita in the world. Of this number about one hundred thousands are female. China with much larger population has by far less in its prisons. The US is ciminalizing its population much faster than it can build prisons. Now I can recommend some good books that argue the US, for all practical purposes, is a police state. Let me know if you are interested. At least Iran is not claiming it is the leader of the 'free' world.

It is a straightforward apple-to-apple comparison between a pluralistic democracy and a theocracy, nothing more, nothing less.

by Democracy Lover (not verified) on

Just come out and say it, don’t be bashful! You live in a democracy now! Perhaps you are saying we are lucky? Yes we are lucky that republicans, Bush and his gang did not suspend the constitution of the United States, although they wanted too! On the other hand luck has nothing to do with it, just remember a lot of good people died to defend this constitution! I sense you have supported the shenanigans of the last 8 years?
