Mr. Mohammad Sadiq Kaboudvand, who is the founder of Kurdistan Human Rights Organization was arrested in the summer of 2007. He was charged with “founding the Kurdistan Human Rights Organization, as well as widespread propaganda against the state by disseminating news and sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment and subjected to severe torture.

Recently the Islamic Revolutionary Appeal Court upheld the 11 year jail sentence against Mr. Kaboudvand, it seems like he is forced to serve the remaining 10.5 years in prison.

It must be mentioned that since his arrest 16 months ago, Mr. Kaboudvand has been allowed only one visitation with his family. He is currently suffering from numerous illnesses and his visitation privileges have been revoked. both Mr. Kaboudvand and the Kurdistan Human Rights Organization have asked for the help of human rights groups and organizations as well as activists to publicize the treatmetn and the heavy sentence imposed on Mr. Kaboudvand and to condemn the Islamic Regime for their treatment of human rights activists.

I invite all freedom loving people, groups and organizations to speak up against this great injustice. Please find below a letter from Kurdistan Human Rights Organization (in Farsi, the translation of which I will try to post in the next day or so)detailing Mr. Kaboudvand's situation.

حکم سنگین زندان فعال حقوق بشر تائید شد سازمان دفاع از حقوق بشر کردستان دادگاه تجدیدنظر انقلاب اسلامی تهران، سرانجام با تائید رای شعبه 15 دادگاه انقلاب محکومیت ده سال حبس بنیانگذار حقوق بشر کردستان را قطعی نمود. آقای محمدصدیق کبودوند موسس سازمان حقوق بشر کردستان، مدیر مسئول و سردبیر هفته‌ نامه «پیام مردم» در اوایل تابستان سال گذشته دستگیر، و به اتهام تشکیل جمعیت مدافع حقوق بشر و دعوت از جمهوری اسلامی به پایبندی به تعهدات حقوق بشری و دفاع از حقوق بشر و افشای موارد نقض آن در گفتگو با رسانه‌های عمومی، به یازده سال حبس توأم با شکنجه محکوم گردی
