Hotel Evin ?

When a good friend of mine forwarded this sequence of nocturnal images from Teheran to me, I was almost prompted to ask if this is really the same place I knew from the news headlines of protests and from Ahadis movie "Green Wave".

Suddenly, it look more like a tourist promo for Beirut. It was only untill at 3:22 min that a very short picture showed a neon-sign pointing to a "Hotel Evin", that convinced me it is Iran. Would like to know, is there really a Hotel in Teheran that carries the same name as the prison notorious for all the violence?   Which hotel owner would call its business after a place of death and violence? And who are the customers booking in a hotel with this name?

I have some memories of Evin. I can't even remember how I used to go to Evin. I know that I took the bus but the exact route, I don't remember.  I have to look at a map of Tehran to know exactly where Evin is. I know that in Early 1980s, Evin was not that populated. I had a good friend who lived there.  And then I remember knowing that Evin prison was there and actually seeing the building. I don't remember much more about Evin, which makes me think Thank God.

My parents had one of those apartment houses there, a while ago. They would bring back some videos and photos, always looked kinda inviting. Would be nice if you have some pictures or clips, cheers

Actually the neighborhood still has some very nice areas, but as you correctly mention the house of denetion has its polluting effects. A bit further north from there, Valanjak is also a very nice area.

Sorry for my ignorance, and thanks for all the info. To bad that the reports about the violence in Evin prison made a bad publicity for entire neighborhood.

Does the neon sign indicate it is a four-star establishment ? Maybe to posh for me anyway. And what is the red symbol above the stars indicating ?

yes dude there is hotel evin, evin is the name of a nighborhood in northern tehran there is evin supermarket, evin hotel, evin resturant and of course evin prison and the pictures from video above is all from tehran
