Hi! RD,

I read this quadrain 2 days, it is very philosophical! It is also open for interpretation; it really makes me think:

********************************************************

All treasures ain’t worth this oppression.
All pleasures ain’t worth one transgression.
Not even seven thousand years of joy
Is worth seven days of depression.

Thank you for your blog!

Friends,

I learnt something quite sometime ago that the wisdom encapsulated within the works of the Great Persian Poets such as Mowlana (Rumi), Hafez, Sa'adi, and Omar Khayyam, is pretty much adequate to address any and all of the life issues -

I have tried to feature their works anytime that the opportunity presents itself ...

Best,

R D

Hi! RD,

The English translation is beautiful and poetic......everyoen who reads it should fall in love with poetry. Shahriar is a great translator. Thank you for posting the translation......my favorite lines are:

Anyone who is touched by God’s grace
Can do what Christ did, without fail.

It feels like written yesterday!

The following poem by Hafiz sounds like a "Happy New Year" poem:

Time & clime, & wealth & health, & root & fruit, & state & fate
May you in your majesty, continue in year and name
Year joyous, clime pleasant, wealth plenty, and health whole
Root constant, fruit enduring, state splendid, and fate tame.

In search of the Grail (translation of this Poem into English)

by R2-D2 on

 ..

In search of the Grail

For years my heart was in search of the Grail
What was inside me, it searched for, on the trail

That pearl that transcends time and place
Sought of divers whom oceans sail

My quest to the Magi my path trace
One glance solved the riddles that I Braille

Found him wine in hand and happy face
In the mirror of his cup would watch a hundred detail

I asked, "when did God give you this Holy Grail?"
Said, "on the day He hammered the world’s first nail!"

Even the unbeliever had the support of God
Though he could not see, God’s name would always hail.

All the tricks of the mind would make God seem like fraud
Yet the Golden Calf beside Moses’ rod would just pale.

And the one put on the cross by his race
His crime, secrets of God would unveil

Anyone who is touched by God’s grace
Can do what Christ did, without fail.

And what of this curly lock that’s my jail
Said this is for Hafiz to tell his tale.

The Stairway of Existence

A Poem by Hafiz

Translated by Daniel Ladinsky

**************************

We
Are not
In pursuit of formalities
Or fake religious
Laws,

For through the stairway of existence
We have come to God's
Door.

We are
People who need to love, because
Love is the soul's life,

Love is simply creation's greatest joy.

Through
The stairway of existence,
O, through the stairway of existence, Hafiz

Have
You now come,
Have we all now come to
The Beloved's
Door.
