What a great idea!
by Paul Schroeder on Fri Apr 22, 2011 08:16 AM PDTI hadn't heard about this before ... and whether it's "true" or not, there's a lot of truth behind it. Maybe, "Esfahan is half the world, Abadan is the other half."
Thank you Paul
by divaneh on Fri Apr 22, 2011 07:49 AM PDTThanks for taking the trouble to share these wonderful reminders of a great time. I searched all of them for a particular headline but could not find it. I heard from our elders that they first wanted to build the United Nation's head quarter in Abadan and only built it in New York after Abadanis refused to have it there. I heard the whole world was upset because with Abadan being at the centre of the world, it was the best place for the UN.
thanks for your comments
by Paul Schroeder on Thu Apr 21, 2011 06:31 AM PDTThanks Darius for the "welcome back" and to everyone for comments. Faryarm, I've posted all the issues I have - would have to check specifically for TV. I know that we didn't have a TV, and we left in Feb. 1960. Everything seems to be going along ok here - I've been posting recently to the Abadani site at Ning and also to Facebook. I forgot to mention that 5 of the 75 issues were supplied by the Diba Library. Thanks again to everyone.
Abadanis are still wonderful
by Azam Nemati on Thu Apr 21, 2011 05:45 AM PDTThanks Paul. I was there March 9th and 10th of this year and the city is just as crowded now as it was before the revolution. There are many young people and thankfully, they are just as warm and hospitable as their parents were during the time you were a kid there. Despite having to wear a scarf and pants, the Spring breeze and the crowded streets made me feel like I was back in 1976 and shopping for Norooz.
Thanks Paul..
