I Watched the Golden Globes Award Ceremony last night and I  just
wished.....  wished for someone to say or do something to recognize
their fellow Artist, a world renowned director, who is imprisoned.  But
nothing.  Zip. Nada.  I expected more from Hollywood "Foreign" press.

So,...........

All other non-Oscar prize shows are not worthy!

by Esfand Aashena on

I think Jim Carey said it best after winning the Golden Globe twice in a row few years ago.  He said: "I'm the Tom Hanks of the Golden Globe!".  Tom Hanks won two Oscars in a row for his roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump but Jim Carey has won nothing!

Golden Globe means nothing!  I hope they say something about Panahi during Oscars.

Everything is sacred

statira, I totally understand..

that it's the time that the Celebrities and the Artist to celebrate winning awards and such but it does not take much time to hold up a sign or just say this sentence: "Free Jafar Panahi"  like Binoche did last year. I think I expect too much but my motto is to see humanity where there may not be a  drop left!

thanks for the comment.

If I want to be FREE I’ve got to be ME!

I wonder

why even Annette Bening did not say anything about Panahi. She took a trip to Iran before and knows more than others about our situation.

MM, thanks for the comment and....

the links.  All the links you provided are great as it shows that they care but a televised event to millions of people provides a venue that can educate and raise awareness instantly.

Juliette Binoche was a prime example of someone whose humanity shined through when she held Jafar Panahi's Name during the Cannes festival last year.

Ricky Gervais did mention when he was hosting, that Americans really don't care about Foreign films in general anyways.... and he was spot on!

Very clever depiction of J. Panahi's unjust imprisonment

by MM on

I did not watch the Golden Globe awards, but I heard that Peter Gervais' Brit humor had the actors looking down at their watches the whole time.  Besides the boring awards ceremony there has been several actor's gilds and film organizations that have called for JP's release since 2009.  Three announcements are listed below; the last one from Jan 13, 2011:

When Panahi was jailed in 2009, Francis Ford Coppola, Joel and Ethan Coen, Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and several other influential filmmakers signed a petition demanding his release. //www.filmslatemagazine.com/news/iranian-filmmaker-panahi-jailed
