Let's not forget that words and actions don't seem to always coincide.

It is one thing to place Women on a pedestal with words and then in action tear them down from their rightful place.

One line stuck with me as a child..... Continued at my blog:

Paradise is not intended to be "exclusive" to women or mothers.  When a specific religion gives directive to its followers to put emphasis or give credit to certain groups then it is quite interesting that such followers do not necesarily follow it as it threatens their place in the social hierarchy. On one hand a mother/woman is placed on a pedestal yet one another occasion she is beaten/abused and taken advantage of.

Hypocrisy can not shake the foundation of "Paradise" nor will it... even if a Paradise is madeup by hypocrits.

In either case, woman and man are HUMAN. Until the day we can equally look and repect them we are behind the 8 ball!

thanks for all your comments.  Avery interesting discussions as I leaarn from them immensely!

On a serious note, what happened and happening to women in Iran and around the world ( specially in some African countries ) as we hear, has taught us valuable lessons. I can not imagine this world without women for a milliseconds. I can not enter our home if I know my wife has not arrived before me, I remain in my car in the driveway until she arrives. love them all, mothers, sisters, daughters and lovers. I would proudly kiss the hands of any mother and grandmother. I do it to my mother, wife, daughter and sisters.

Foundation in Paradise is much too strong to be kicked around?!

by Esfand Aashena on

Kaveh jaan we'll have to think about this for minute.  The saying that "Paradise is under the mothers' feet" is really nice and given all the crap that mothers go through from children to husbands to society it is well deserved!

However, that could also mean that mothers are given a vaadeh sar kharman (wild goose chase :-) that Paradise will reward them no matter what they go through on earth!

So here you're saying that the Hizbullah guy who kicks the women on earth wants to do the same in Paradise?!  That Paradise is fair enough that the Hizbullah kind of nonsense won't be tolerated?!  Well that kind of brings us back to square one!

Mothers can only depend on Paradise!  I don't know!  The cartoon is well intended, the Hizbullah guy is punished well enough, so kudos for that!

Everything is sacred

A Repeat Offence

''Paradise is Beneath Mother's Feet,'' which aims at keeping women away from participating in the public sphere activities and inside homes through their forced motherhood????. Oh, Yap!!!!

Short of saying that such is of course 100% AA's personal view of a Hadith (A made up one among thousands more ??) as a feminist who probably has no clue of hard working moms either at their homes, at the factories, in the fields, as nurses, as teachers, & go on.

hamsade ghadimi

what i got from that saying

by hamsade ghadimi on

what i got from that saying was that if you respect your mother, then you will find peace. or obeying mother's words is the path to righeousness.  i never put that much stock in the saying although i respected my mother.  she was human after all and i made decisions against her wishes which i don't regret.

overall, i don't like generalizations. if one generalizes women as the gate-keepers of "heaven," then there's a danger of defining how that woman should behave.  thanks for the cartoon.  it made me think.

Azadeh jan, SK, MG, R....thank you all for your comments...

by KavehAhangarAdel on

@ Azadeh: I am familiar with the "Hadith" about Paradise beneath Mothers feet, yet my aim was a broader iilustration to all women(not necessarily just mothers :) There is more to be seen in the "Eyes" of the woman. (I talk about it briefly on my blog post) Thanks again.

@Soosan Khanoom: I hear ya. Such places exist when we erase old paradigms. It starts with our kids and setting a proper example. Lots of work to be done.

@Mash Ghasem:  Thanks for Historical facts and tying it in. Western world is full of them but not as overtly advertised and seen as in the East.

@Raoul1955: the thing about pedestals is that without them there is no support in a society...... or a bathroom sink!

I agree with

by Raoul1955 on

Azadeh's remark [in principle] as women are men's partners and the 'pedestal thingy' is where we put objects on.  A good example is one of my bathroom sinks that sits on a 'pedestal' base.  :-)

Mash Ghasem

That must hurt!

by Mash Ghasem on

Sosani there actually has been many palces;

American Revolution 1776, French Revolution 1789, Paris Commune 1871, Mexican Revolution 1910-1918, Russian Revolution 1917, Chinese, Iranian.... and it only hasn't been during revolutions but practically all nation builing efforts from colonial to post- colonial, and the reason is  very simple: the entire population needs to be mobilized and this is impossible without women, but as soon as the revolution is succesful women are sent back home ( with the notable exception of the Paris Commune of course).

thank you Kaveh for reminder.

Mothers not Women

by Azadeh Azad on

Interesting work, Kaveh Jan. Thank you. However, the saying is about mothers, not women: ''Paradise is Beneath Mother's Feet,'' which aims at keeping women away from participating in the public sphere activities and inside homes through their forced motherhood.

Cheers,

Azadeh
