This week Siamack and Varinder Salari are coming all the way to San Francisco to attend the Iranian.com benefit dinner. I couldn't be more thrilled. Can't wait to see them. I was their guest at their home in Belgium last Christmas. Here's a video I took of their sons Kourosh and Siavash:

Dear Souri
by Lalé Shahparaki Welsh on Sun Apr 13, 2008 10:29 AM PDTThe event is in South City so there are no good hotels within walking distance. However, good reasonably priced hotels near SFO are a great choice as they are only a 5-10 minute drive, and you can get shuttles from the airport.
Many people going south after the event (including me) can give you a ride back.
I look forward to meeting you at the event, but PLEASE people, don't wait to get your tickets as we ARE running out of space.
:)

by Souri on Sun Apr 13, 2008 06:29 AM PDTI'm waiting for your response (thru Nazy) regarding a suitable hotel to stay close to the dinner's place.
Could you please help me with that before I buy my ticket online ?
Thanks.
I'm so glad
by Lalé Shahparaki Welsh on Sat Apr 12, 2008 11:16 PM PDTI'm so glad we get to meet Siamack and Varinder! But more than anything I'm gald we've cleared up all the confusion about the benefit dinner guys! We've been working on this fundraiser for JJ since February (!) and have tried really hard to put together an intresting line up so that people feel like they're getting something besides good karma for their $150 per ticket donation.
It's really a testament to JJ that so many artists have been willing to donate their craft to help him raise money. Of course, most of them owe a lot to Iranian.com, but there are about 20 artists and volunteers all told, and we even had to trun down many others for this time. Way beyond Arash sobhani & Hamed Nikpay, we have Anoush Khazeni, Ardalan Paayvaar, Raeeka Shehabi Yaghmai & Babak Khiavchi (who is also paying his own way here from Seattle!) But we have about another dozen or so painters and sculptors who have donated their heart and soul in the form of art work to be auctioned off at the silent auction that night. It's all very impressive!
I'm excited to meet all JJ's friends like Siamack--and I just heard that Hooman from Alice Radio is coming too!
If you haven't already, get your tix now as we'll have to close the books real soon or we're going to have to close the reservations on Wednesday.
See you all there I hope!
L.

Great cause, fantastic group of contributing musicians & artists..AND now to top it all off, A thinner Siamack S in person.
JJ, have you prepared an "espeeech" for the event?

I can't go, but may donate
by Internets on Sat Apr 12, 2008 04:27 PM PDTIn any case, I can not attend but may consider donating to the cause. Speaking about donations, I am going to go at a bit of tangent in here but I have had a gripe for quite a while:
I donated and effectively/successfully encouraged others (immediate family members) to donate to the cause of "Cyrus the Great" documentary that this other Cyrus dude (Cyrus Kar?. The one who got detained in Iraq by the U.S. troops whilst making his documentary) was asking for donation ont he old I dot Com site. Cutting a long story short, never received even a "Khoshk-E-Khali" thank you or even worse, no news about this documentary which I had "invested" in. So, a friendly note to donation seekers, at least send a BS thank you note, even if you do not mean it. A little bit of "Mardomdari" albeit fake, goes a long way in this business. JMHO.

by Feshangi on Sat Apr 12, 2008 05:47 PM PDTI guess old age is catching up with me. You were too quick to read it before I censored myself. T.V. was meant for all those good people who have missed and are still missing the Benefit and Dinner ad that has been winking at us for the past month or so.

Unbaffled...
by Internets on Sat Apr 12, 2008 04:05 PM PDTNo problem, it is a truce.. You see, it is not so hard to get along. Give a little, take a little and that will be all ;-)
Feshangi, thanks for the diagnosis: I always thought that I only had A.D.D, but now I reckon that I also have T.V.

by Formerly baffled (not verified) on Sat Apr 12, 2008 03:14 PM PDTFeshangi: thank you so much for clarifying things for me.
Internets: You have no sense of humor. You had one before but you lost it somewhere along the thread. Let's drop this, shall we?
JJ e aziz, I wish I could come and see everyone
by I wish (not verified) on Sat Apr 12, 2008 03:12 PM PDTI wish I could come and see everyone at the benefit dinner. I am sure it is going to be a lot of fun. Through years of reading everyone's view/messages here I personally have developed a bond with what I call "The Iranian Gang". I feel the bond with even the most irritating ones (I am not saying Haji-agha is on top of this list..LOL).
Hope everyone have fun there. Look forwarding to see the pictures and possibly a short clip.

by Internets on Sat Apr 12, 2008 03:01 PM PDTWhat are the differences between a "human person" and a person?. Are there "persons" within the beast/animal domain as opposed to the the human domain, or are you just another ill-educated elitist wannabe?!.

I am EXTREMELY baffled.
Sham o Gol o Parvaneh!
by petaluma iranian (not verified) on Sat Apr 12, 2008 01:23 PM PDTI have been following Siamack Salari and his repeated attempts at weight loss for years. I love his kids, too, and his wife wins "the most patient woman in the world award!"
I am coming with my friend to see you, JJ, but what an added bonus to see Siamack Salari there, too! Is Siamak Bani Ameri coming, also? I miss that guy so much. Where is he? I won't mind Dariush Kadivar, either! Is he coming?

by Internets on Sat Apr 12, 2008 11:37 AM PDTOh, you mean that huge flashing vertical banner flashing on the right side of the I.com pages (with pictorials of Ross Mir..., Kiosk & Nikplay), pertained to this Benefit Dinner?. I must have major ADD. Sorry, "my bad" ;-)

You are all invited!
by Nazy Kaviani on Sat Apr 12, 2008 11:13 AM PDTDear Internets and Souri:
For the past couple of months, there has been a flashing advertisement on the site, announcing a benefit dinner to honor Iranian.com's 13 years of life, networking, and service to the Iranian community worldwide. The event will be held on Saturday, April 19th in San Francisco.
This benefit is organized by Jahanshah Javid's friends to help improve and upgrade Iranian.com and to help achieve some of the dreams and plans Jahanshah has had for the site. Everyone is invited to attend, and you can purchase your tickets here. If you are unable to attend but would still like to help, you can do it here.
Many of JJ's friends and Iranian.com writers and artists will be in attendance at the event, and it would be a pleasure to see you all there. Please come if you can!
