Fire away

I'm sitting on the floor at Berlin's something-hof airport waiting for my flight to Brussels. The building is cold and mighty ugly. You only see straight lines. Everything looks like a square or rectangle. It also reminds me of the Tehran's Mehrabad airport in some way.

I sat down with my new good friend at the Airlift cafe and chatted about bloggers and the sorry state of Iranian media. I got milk with a banana and he had a cherry yogurt with orange juice. Total 16 Euros... about $22. Maadareto...

My friend just left to get on the plane. I have a few hours to kill. I thought this would be a good time to talk to readers, which I should do from time to time.

If you have any questions you may have about iranian.com or me or anything relevant... I'd be happy to answer them.

Fire away!

Your sensor police is going too far

by Mani432 (not verified) on

JJ,
I recently posted a comment, on the posting titled the "Pourkesali Family", where I noted my position against Iranian Muslims celebrating Christmass more fervently than thier own Shabe Yalda or NoRooz. My original comment and the subsequent discussions were deleted (sensored) by your editors. I posted a similar comment again and again it was deleted.
I fully understand and appreciate deleting comments that are vile, use foul language or attack specific individuals just for the sake of it. But upon reviewing my comments, you'll note that THIS WAS NOT THE CASE in my posting. Instead, your editors simply disagreed with my position and as such deleted my comments. This is where editing crosses the line into sensorship.
I would truly appreciate you taking a moment to look into this case and provide me with a response to my query.
Best Regards,
Mani432

You are doing a great job.

You are doing a great job. Don't let silly apologists for the regime ever stop anyone promoting their political opinions.

OK I even censored my name, are you happy now?

by karim *****koloft (not verified) on

Why do you keep deleting me? At least have the balls to answer my question:
Why do you allow such words as F**k and S**t but not the instruments of their production, i.e. K**r, K**s and K**n?
You may keep deleting me but you will be forever a COWARD!

"Song of Myself"

by Walt Whitman (not verified) on

I speak the pass-word primeval, I give the sign of democracy,
By God! I will accept nothing which all cannot have their
counterpart of on the same terms.

Through me many long dumb voices,
Voices of the interminable generations of prisoners and slaves,
Voices of the diseas'd and despairing and of thieves and dwarfs,
Voices of cycles of preparation and accretion,
And of the threads that connect the stars, and of wombs and of the
father-stuff,
And of the rights of them the others are down upon,
Of the deform'd, trivial, flat, foolish, despised,
Fog in the air, beetles rolling balls of dung.

Through me forbidden voices,
Voices of sexes and lusts, voices veil'd and I remove the veil,
Voices indecent by me clarified and transfigur'd.

I do not press my fingers across my mouth,
I keep as delicate around the bowels as around the head and
heart,
Copulation is no more rank to me than death is.

I believe in the flesh and the appetites,
Seeing, hearing, feeling, are miracles, and each part and tag of me
is a miracle.

A local Deli with a “home cookin” flare

by tRUE aBADANI (not verified) on

When it comes to an authentic “Dombalan”,
there is nothing like what is being served at JooJa_Balan.com. A long time patron described
it as being similar to “self-serve” cooking with
no limits on ingredients or number of so called chefs.

Since the customers are the chefs, they keep coming back for more, no matter how bad or good the final “Dombalan” turns out.

At the outset, it would seem the popularity is mostly due to variety in dishes served. It would be wrong, however, to assume this is the only reason for JooJa_Balan.com popularity.

To find out more we went and had a short interview with JooJa_Balan.com founder and the master chef
Mr. JooJa Balan (JJ for short).

[We were unable to directly reach JJ for interview. The following is simulated response based on factual information that is publicly available.

HQ: Thanks for making this opportunity available.
Please do not take the following questions as personal attack.

It is however, meant to question your agenda.

JJ: You are welcome. Please go on.

HQ: First off tell us about your self a bit. Where are you from?

JJ: I am from Cary, North Carolina. (JooJa_Balan Servers are located in NC about 65 miles from Fort Bragg)

HQ: did you know North Carolina has one of the biggest DoD Computing research …
HQ: This odd since you do reside in California. As I recall, NC is a research hob for DoD computing. I wonder if this has any thing to do with it?

JJ: hmmmm, Next question please…

HQ: OK, I meant to ask where you come from.

JJ: I come from Iran BUT I have lived most of my adult life in US.

HQ: It is clearly obvious that you have encountered some pivotal and dramatic events IN YOUR LIFE.
Is it fair to say you have gone through profound transformation in your world view.
This clearly can be seen in the way you present the dishes at JooJa_Balan.com

HQ: Are they civilized where you come from?

JJ: This is a very cartoonish and simplistic characterization of my views.
JJ: You see we are not X and not Y and definitely not Z.

We are just plane NOT!

HQ: Do you believe an Islamic society can be a “Civilized” socity ?

JJ: NO. This is an oxymoron proposition…

JJ: I think I am pretty well balanced in my world view…

HQ: Is it fair to say like many Iranian-Americans your critic of Islamic values deeply rooted in selfish reasons?

JJ: As An American-Iranian or is it Iranian-American ?…

HQ: Will you ever go back?

JJ: NO, Not ever.

We at JooJa_Balan.com leading the way for next generation OF …Bombay-Africans …

Bombay-African a group of children brought by the European colonizers to India where they were indoctrinated. Later, used as guides to help colonize Africa.

Are there a new breed of Bombay-Africans in the works. Yes. Where can you find them ? look right here in JooJa_Balan.com!

HQ: Are you OK JJ ?
JJ: Na Man I am pretty fucking far
from OK (JJ or Marcellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction)

"The path
of the righteous man is beset on
all sides by the inequities of the
selfish and the tyranny of evil
men. Blessed is he who, in the
name of charity and good will,
shepherds the weak through the
valley of darkness, for he is truly
his brother's keeper and the finder
of lost children. And I will
strike down upon thee with great
vengeance and furious anger those
who attempt to poison and destroy
my brothers. And you will know my
name is the Lord when I lay my
vengeance upon you."

Do you always leave the cap

by n.zanincanadai1 (not verified) on

Do you always leave the cap open on lotions and such? I saw it in your picture diary of your departure. You know bacteria accumulates that way? I don't want to be a mom but or OCD you. That was the first question.
Second question is what do you read? Kollan

Farsi

by Jahanshah Javid on

Hi Orang,

I believe Souri is right. The best way to post in Farsi on this site is to first write whatever you want in Word document and then copy/paste it in the "body" field. That's what I do when I want to fix other people's posts when they don't look right.

Sorry, Ladies,

by Rosie T. on

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not part of anyone's harem.  And I'm also not off my tree.  I just spent a really hard week working on this SCE campaign and I'm tired..  And this is a highly visible blog so...please...think....I know neither of you meant any harm so let's just drop it. Or contact me privately.  This is jj's blog for him to dialogue with members about issues, and it's long overdue.

Why are you such a big loser ?

by Refugee in observation (not verified) on

Why is it?

Once up on a time I had no family of my own too.

I also had deserted my country and family too.

I was lonely though I was living among millions.
Than, I found out I had a talent … I can sell my ability to sell …

I am a private dancer now...I dance for money...

my regards - I tend to get suicidal around this time of the year!........

It is an American thing you know ...

Is this JJ's harem?

I have a strange feeling that he has 'Sandy''s number on him and is in Europe for reunification.

By the way, this bacteria underwear stuff: what kind of a monstrous bacteria survives pollluted water and deturgents at boiling degrees? Is this a special cultural (pun intended) superior Iranian set of bacteria?

You forgot to mention those fungus brown shoes of JJ's. If that doesn't scream financial issues, I don't know what does. :o)   If he had not shown us a picture of them, I don't think I would have believed the existence of those shoes.

JJ IiNDEPENDENTLY WEALTHY???...Q-joon...

by Rosie T. on

Did you read jj's last photo essay?  The man buys $10 shirts once every five years and he can't even afford a maid, which he SORELY needs...

Sorry to speak for you on this one, jj, but things in cyberspace rapidly become "urban myths" and while you're wandering Amsterdam ripped on "kif" and photgraphing the whores in the display windows (aaah, I remember them well...), I thought I'd better nip this one in the bud....  :D

As for the rest of Q's post, he does have a point...

Q

Jahanshah, a serious complaint

by Q on

Why don't you make registration mandatory?

I enjoyed your discussion with "Anonymous8" below. I'm gald our paranoid friend is reassured that this site is not run by the IRI, but don't you see what he just did?

He just lobbed baseless accusations against 5 or 6 people in a so-called conversation with you. Just look for yourself how he NEEDLESSLY REPEATED these accusations on purose, even after you answered his question. I'm only surprised he didn't mention my name, god knows it's been slandered enough on this site already.

Now, I know, you must be an independently wealthy man making money from this site, but many decent people with opinions have to work for a living, and when you are being slandered by anonymous cowards, while America is still in a neo-mccarthyist stage, and these accusations show up in a simple google search, don't you think it's irresponsible to allow it to continue? People lose jobs, and get visits from the FBI for this kind of thing. In fact, this is a favorite tactic of rajavists, to call people "pro IRI" to get them in trouble with trigger happy Americans.

We both know that people like that don't make these accusations under their real names, because, being cowards, they have no evidence to show anyone. So why let them get away with it? Why give them a free forum to slander and libel people based on fascist-minded "suspicion" ? If you insist on erasing vulgarity, why not erase libel as well? Why not force people to register, so that at least you have their real name and information???

This is serious. People lose jobs and livelihoods like this.

Hi Orang,

by Souri from Montreal (not verified) on

Hi Orang jan, this is Souri, I know you from Paris (with the whole Iranian gang of Colombes) don't know if you remember me or not !
First: hello to your mom and other family members, second: I read all your poems and really enjoyed all of them. Bravo !
Third: about your question, if you have already a Farsi fonte, It would be easier to write in Farsi first, then a "copier/coller" into the "comment" area of this page....
This will save you all those headaches.
Just a suggestion !
Cheers,

Technical Question !

by Orang Gholikhani on

I know my question is a ittle bit odd looking at other questions :-)

I've some issue to use site editeur when writing in Farsi character (people please dont add comments telling it is Persian and/or not Farsi, I don't care of useless discussion).

I've Word 2007 and it seems be possible to use it to edite directly int a blog but I it ask questions about protocol to configure it.

Could you in the FAQ or somewhere else something to use Word 2007 or some other tools making it easier to write ?

Merci Beaucoup d'avance ;-)

European art history..

We've been studying European Art History, so any photo journalistic treks through museum with comments would be appreciated. I especially like those photos of people looking at people who are looking at the art.
Oh.... you could take some photos of the shoes of people looking at paintings too. I laugh a lot when I see the world through your lens.

Great weather over there, eh?

Good Practice To Delete Cetain Cooments

by Assad Agha (not verified) on

JJ, I have seen certain people with vendettas that deliberately try to sabotage a good article by putting vulgar and personally insulting comments. Some of their comments are in multiples. These people also try to use a different name for different articles. But their style gives them away. I think that these people are complete "Morons". I'm Glad you Delete These Bastards :)

Moles

by Jahanshah Javid on

Thanks Mirza,
I assure you there are no moles here. You need to give me very specific examples or else I cannot judge. For example I have seen many of the comments left for Ali Mostofi and they were mostly stupid personal attacks. I don't know what you wrote or if it was deleted so I am not including you). If someone doesn't like something written in this site, that's fine. The whole point is to have a debate and discussion. But if some choose to constantly harass writers without commenting on the point the writer is trying to make, then those comments will be removed.

re: Vulgarity

by Mirza Ghalami (not verified) on

JJ,
Your explanation is a relief in a way and sad in other ways. It is a relief because many of us who know you (professionally) were surprised of what was going on in your name. It is sad because although we realize that the volume of exchanges are high and therefore you need help, but your helpers are "biased". They don't seem to adhere to the same professional standards that you do. All I can tell you is that some of your "editors" could be Mr Ali Mostofi and Mr. Rashidian's "moles". They are not deleting vulgarity, but all sort of comments that speak of the person's mission and/or background. Go figure.

Regards....
