I shouldn't be surprised. I'm talking about posting things for public viewing and people's reactions.
Probably one of THE most satisfying things I do on this site is to once a day select a music video for the STUFF box in the middle of the front page. I try to pick something that's really beautiful, incredible, wonderful, delicious, romantic...
I mostly rely on memory, trying to think of my favorite songs and then searching them on YouTube hoping to find a video there.
This was a fun, private process. But I'm getting emails from people telling me they are absolutely sure this or that video is about them, or about me, or about the revolution... And they're completely off the mark. Now I have to worry about who might react to what song and I actually won't post certain songs because I know I'll probably get into trouble.
Still, I can't/shouldn't complain. The truth is that every song does remind me of someone or some period of my life. For instance for today's video -- Moby's "Porcelain" -- I put a disclaimer that it's not about anyone. Meanwhile I listened to it again, and realized it very much reminds me of someone in particular.
When there is no disclaimer or explanation or dedication, people will make their own assumptions. When you and I share something with the public, we have to be ready for all sorts of reactions. People have their own sincere reasons for reacting the way they do. Nothing should really surprise us.
A poet faced a similar problem. Her poetry about lovers and affairs and intimate moments have caused such a stir on this site that some readers have thought she's writing about them. She was so worried she asked me to delete some of her poems.
I hate deleting anything. You cannot stop expressing yourself just because some people might get confused. Look at it this way: You are striking a chord, you are relevant, you are touching people. Correct them if they misunderstand your intentions, but don't go into hiding!
Now that I have gotten this off my chest, I look forward to my next video pick. Enjoy and dream on!

by Azarin Sadegh on Mon Jan 07, 2008 02:53 PM PSTDear n.,
I know that Jeesh Daram's name shouldn't be his real name, but still as Jeesh Daram he seems to own a kind of pride and responsibility and he wouldn't add stupid comments on any other piece. It seems that a registered anonymous (with a real email address) acts more reasonable than a real anonymous.
So my suggestion was that since there is so much cruel anonymous comments, maybe we could also add features or blogs as a true anonymous, so we can be as cruel as our judges!
But maybe I will should use your suggestion: To get a new email address, to get a new identity and to use it for my "other" pieces...now it sounds pretty appealing!
Thanks,
Azarin
The title of this essay reminds me of Aerosmith........
by Nadias on Mon Jan 07, 2008 01:58 PM PSTI have posted the links for you all. I really prefer the remake by Kelly Sweet.

Aerosmith "Dream On"
Everytime that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face gettin clearer
The past is gone
It went by like dust to dawn
Isnt that the way
Everybodys got their dues in life to pay
I know what nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know its everybodys sin
You got to lose to know how to win
Half my life is in books written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know its true
All the things come back to you
Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if its just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away
(x2)
Dream on, dream on
Dream yourself a dream come true
Dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on...
Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tears
Sing with me, if its just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away

Yes!
by Jahanshah Javid on Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:34 PM PSTHi Mahmoud,
We are seriously considering that idea. It would be exciting if anyone could post a news item and people would be able to comment on it on a separate page.

by n.zanincanadai1 (not verified) on Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:34 PM PSTWe already have anonymous contributors. Jeesh Daram, myself and a few others are pretty anonymous :) We just have to register.
A Suggestion
by MahmoudJenati05 (not verified) on Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:10 PM PSTJJ, it would be a great idea if you could reconfigure the "Headlines" section of your front page so that we could leave our comments like we do everywhere else.
It shouldn't be that difficult to do :) Keep up the Good Work!!
Harsh comments
by Jahanshah Javid on Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:00 PM PSTHi Azarin,
I will be turning off the comment box on pages with photos of private individuals, family gatherings and such. Looks like some people always feel the need to find and spew something nasty about the most innocent of photos. They can save it!
As for harsh comments, hameh baayad pooskoloft sheem!
Happy 2008

Comments on the Iranian of the day
by Azarin Sadegh on Mon Jan 07, 2008 11:50 AM PSTHi JJ,
I was wondering if you have removed the possibility of commenting on "Iranian of the day" section? It could be a good idea after all, especially after the heated discussion brought up by Nikki and others... Or could it be just a possible choice for the ones who submit their Iranian of the day?
I think that life is getting pretty tough for any contributor of Iranian.com. Even worse than presidential candidates! There are anonymous eyes and ears everywhere who would remind you of your previous actions and words and your old sins...
So why not having anonymous contributors?
Azarin
PS: btw, welcome back to the real world after a few weeks "off"!
Just talking
by Jahanshah Javid on Mon Jan 07, 2008 09:37 AM PSTHi Jamal,
The controversy is in my head. There's no crisis. There's no flood of emails from confused people. Just wanted to share one of the exciting aspects of my work (yawn) :o)

by Jamal_U (not verified) on Mon Jan 07, 2008 09:33 AM PSTThanks for letting us know about the controversy on the videos. To be honest, this is one part of the site that I never pay attention to. I usually skip it. From now on, I will check it out to see if there is anything interesting :)
As far as the Poet, I think that I have a fairly good guess!!
