Iran is not in Switzerland (remember?)
by Kamangir on Sat Jan 19, 2008 05:48 PM PSTFirst of all, the majority of Afghans in Iran belong to the Hezara or Hazara ethnic minority of Afghanistan. I've met many Afghanis in the West that are much more 'Persian' than many Iranians. Many are very white and fair skinned with green, blue eyes (the eastern provinces of Persia were much less arabized) I'm trying to say that Afghanistan and Iran were part of the same country, with same language and customs. The Afghanis we have seen and see in Iran are again, of a specific ethnic minority, many of whom are very hard working people, are still making contributions to Iran's daily life and economy. They have no rights, mainly because we're a third world country, that sometimes confuses its own geography with that of Switzerland. How many Iranians have commited crimes and nasty actions in each and every single contry they live in? Does this make us all criminals? To the fellow who considers the incident on the Bus as not racist, all I can say is you're a foreigner yourself, for many westerners you I, the arabs and the afghanis... are all the same. Iran is a very classist society within itself. We tend to kiss any westerner's ass like idiots, like 'adam nadideh', like oghdeis that we're. Besides who are we to treat someone else like that?
Racism in Iran
by Tajjers (not verified) on Sat Jan 19, 2008 02:57 PM PSTI can absolutely believe Irooni's story. I've talked to Afghans in Tehran; life is not fun for them. Anonymous2008's comment proves the fact: Afghan refugees are blamed for everything, as they are an easy target. Another Anonymous' comment on "how can it be racism" is very naive; most Afghans living in Iran are refugees - they fled their homeland - it wasn't just that they chose to move to Iran. Many of them are Hezara, who are Shi'ites and suffered severely under the TalibanOf course, they may make more money in Iran than Afghanistan, but that's not saying much. And you really think most Iranians see Afghans as equal to them? No way! Afghans are seen as stupid and backward. That's why Afghans do all the crappest jobs in Iran; the ones the Iranians don't want to do themselves.
racism
by sina57 (not verified) on Sat Jan 19, 2008 01:40 PM PSTMaybe it's normal to be racist. But any sentence like
"The Iranians/Americans/English.....do this or that or are this or that" is inevitable racist.
Do you think racism is restricted to the West??
Prick up your ears!!

Do Not Generalize.
by Another Anonymous (not verified) on Sat Jan 19, 2008 01:37 PM PSTThis is very unusual if true at all. There are millions of afghans living in iran today. If it were such a bad place, they would not be there. Besides, afghans are our closest relatives in that region so motivation cannot be racism. Western part of afghanistan was part of iran until a few hundred years ago.

by Anonymous2008 (not verified) on Sat Jan 19, 2008 12:29 PM PSTYou seem to forget the atrocities that the Afghan illegals in Iran were commiting. It is a normal reaction what the bus driver expressed. It is not racist at all.
