Senator Biden: When we kicked -- along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said and Barack said, "Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don't know -- if you don't, Hezbollah will control it." Now what's happened? Hezbollah is a legitimate part of the government in the country immediately to the north of Israel. The fact of the matter is, the policy of this administration has been an abject failure. (transcript from the VP debate on October 2, 2008)
OK, some of you might have read my little article about Joe Biden before he became the Democratic VP nominee. You might ask why I showed so much enthusiasm for his selection as running mate by Senator Obama. Well, that opinion was specifically about his support of diplomacy when it comes to Iran, it did not mean that the guy never gaffs.
Today I like to talk about the gaff he made during the debate and no one has picked on it. Perhaps because Governor Palin offered so much more fun material that there was no need to take on Senator O’Biden (as Palin called him that night). First when I heard the sentence about we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I did not believe my ears. Now that I have the transcripts from NYT, there is no reason to think that I missed something.
Note that, this was in response to a question about Bush’s administration policy with regards to Israel. In other words he is talking about a time span between 2000 and 2008. So where did this claim that “WE kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon” comes from? When did we do that?
The only event that Hezbollah was involved in, in the recent years, was in July 2006 when not WE, but Israel attacked Hezbollah camps in Southern Lebanon, and was not able to defeat them with IDF crossing the border into Lebanon re-occupying Lebanese land, and even after 20 some days of bombarding Lebanese infrastructure. US supported Israel by threatening to use its veto power in blocking UN Security Council attempt to call for cease-fire. We all know that at the end it was Israel that was kicked out of Lebanon, and not Hezbollah who reside in Southern Lebanon and have no other place to go. Biden, however, was partially accurate in saying that France and Israel were interested at the end, to deploy NATO forces to replace UN Peace keepers. Whether Biden and Obama were suggesting the same line, I have no idea. But for sure UN was not happy with the proposal and situation in Northern Israel under Hezbollah’s Katiusha raids was so critical that everybody decided to take their ball and go home.
So I can only say O’Joe, Pelleez!!! If you are going to start rewriting the history look back what the strategy of “reality making” has brought us in the past eight years. As the philosopher George Santayana said a century ago “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

O'AliGoodie Pelleez!
by cyrusc (not verified) on Mon Oct 06, 2008 11:36 PM PDTIt sure appears that Mr. Eghtedari can't make his mind. In his little article regarding his O'Joe-ee Biden, he was dreaming about him to be nominated by Hossein Oobaamaast. Ali Goudarz was hoping that someone would sent him a text message of the sweetee O'Joe-ee's nomination.
Why, you say? Not because O'Joe-ee is against nuclear Iran. Not at all, since Eghtedari is very much in support of the mullahs to have the nuclear capability.
You say then, Eghtedari had sweet dreams about O'Joe-ee because the Senator supported the war in Iraq?! Wrong again, because Eghtedari, similar to all other supporters of the mullahs, has been pushing for America to leave Iraq so that Pasdaran of Iran and the mullahs' basijis would fill the gap. You don't believe me, ask his partner in life, Gabriel Ross, a German born woman, who went to Iran last year and was given icecream (bastani and faaloodeh) by several mullahs. Her travel partner was the same mullah-loving freelancer who put up a photo exhibit (ghorfeh) in Dever during Obama/Biden Democratic convetion to support legitimizing the regime of Iran.
That is exactly the point. Mr. Eghtedari is not confused. He is merely taking the choice he has between Mccain and Obama. He want someone to lead US who would lengten the misreable live of the mullahs even if his vp supported the war in Iraq. The next time Mr. Eghtedari claimed to be a human rights activist, tell him: O'AliGoodie Pelleez!
Dear Karimpour
by Bijan A M on Sun Oct 05, 2008 01:59 PM PDTChill out...the guy said he is pro Obama and was just pointing (in all honesty) to Biden's blunder. No big deal. Don't get so worked up about the snake-oil salesman. Don't fall for all the sweet talk and hollow speaches. Your candidate will deliver this country in silver platter to the terrorists and commuinsts. Just be patient for 4 more weeks. Then start collecting body parts from streets of New York and Los Angeles.... nauf said....
Dear Goudarz
by Karimpour (not verified) on Sun Oct 05, 2008 01:05 PM PDTIt was in the news the next morning. Apparently, Joe Biden misspoke Hezbollah instead of Syria. I don't think Biden, as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for many years, is that dumb to ignore such a recent history; unlike the illiterate McCain who once talked about the border between Pakistan and Iraq or his running mate who can't even name a few American newspapers that she claims reading all.
It was a simple mistake, and he has acknowledged that. No need to write an article about it. People often make mistakes in their spoken or written conversations. For example, I believe you mean "gaffe" (meaning blunder) instead of "gaff" (a hook) in your article above. Does it mean that you should become a subject of ridicule? Of course not!
I hate to agree with Mullah,s Joe but He was right
by samsam1111 on Sun Oct 05, 2008 07:21 AM PDTThere were 2 occasions similar to the claim. 1st was the Israeli control of south lebenon 1982-1991. This one is out because Obama was not around then. But ,
He was correct on the geopolitical reality post Hezbollah-Israel skirmish in 2006.
1- "We" means "alies" such as Israel.
2-"kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon" meant "South Lebenon & Bekkaa Valey" , their strong base past litani river.
3-""I said and Barack said, "Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don't know -- if you don't, Hezbollah will control "" . Now that,s something that Joe needs to back up himself via proof.
Unlike PLO , the Hezbollah is not a foreign entity & can,t be kicked outa lebenon. What strenghtened Hezbollah was the Taif Accords signed in 1989 which gave Hezbollah a free hand and then pressuring the Lebanese government to formally designate them as "the resistance" to Israel . Hezbollah's rise is directly related to Mullahs's funding of their proxy to the tune of around $250 million a year.
