Potato is the devil!

Last year one of my protégés from Harvard, Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, published a study that said don't eat potatoes, they are the devil!  I am not kidding here's an article on his study.

In case you're wondering, most of my protégés are from Harvard and MIT, about 50/50 split but this guy woldn't listen to me!  I told him baba, take it easy, say at least 90% of potato goes to your gut or ass, no? ok how about 95%? but he wouldn't listen and went with full 100%!

I thought the world would come to an end and the study would become major news and people would quit eating potatoes like they quit smoking cigarettes.  But the news didn't go far and didn't get much traction.  Although, the Potato Farmers Association (there is an association for everything) cried foul at the onset and later Congress, yes Congress, pushed to have more fries in school lunches!  That'll teach the Iranians!

I told Dr. Mozaffarian, how can you not have potato in your diet?  Can you have a sandwich without chips, hamburger without fries, steak without baked potato, country breakfast without home fries, gheymeh without fried potato, gravy without mashed potatoes??!

Furthermore, a million people died in Ireland in the Great Irish Famine between 1845 - 1852 and now you're saying don't eat the potato? Aren't we risking the lives of millions of people if they follow through?  WTF?!

I for one am not giving up on potatoes and will have my 3 small roasted red potatoes halves for lunch (used to have 3 full ;-).  Poor vegeterians who have potato as a staple in their diet.  That'll teach them not to be a vegan!  I guess I'd recommend to have potatoes with something else as an equalizer, like beets in this blog's photo, so that the negative effect of potato is washed away, or exercise more.  But I don't think that the good Doctor would agree and will stubbornly say, just say no to potatoes!

Vaghen ke Viva la fiesta, viva la noche (WTF?) official video ; you can dance with this song and have your potato!

Faramarz jaan Peruvian food is not stereotypical!

by Esfand Aashena on

I appreciate your Peruvian or any other food suggestions.  As for flower on the tables, I disagree, I like flowers on the table it suggests freshness.  I just don't like plastic flowers!  They are the worst and say a lot about the eatery that they probably don't care about your food and just give you microwaved TV dinners!

You can say hi to the mamasitas after you've chowed down, in fact I hear (wouldn't know it anymore ;-) that mamasitas like a man with a full stomach because they know his mind is now clear to take on other tasks!

Everything is sacred

You talked about burger and fries, sandwich and chips, steak and mashed potato, so I figured that I should mention something slightly different. But no harm done.

As for mamasitas at Peruvian restaurants, I have two golden rules when it comes to great food and dining; no distractions of any kind until after the food and, don't crowd the table with things that cannot be eaten like flowers!

Faramarz jaan I am a regular customer of Peruvian chicken and their potatoes!  Ey baba!  My favorite chicken place does not have a website yet, but you can check out their world famous charcoal oven and tasty chicken pictures.  Next time you're in DC area check them out, you may get lucky and be there at the same time as mamasitas gather there!

Niki jaan you're receipe is actually 115% of what Dr. Mozaffarian is talking about!  The whole point of the Harvard study and this blog is that when it comes to potatoes there is no "moderation".  They are delish but eat at your own risk!

As the last commentator on the article that I provided said "They will have to pry the potato out of my cold, dead hands." !

Everything is sacred

Potatoes are delisssshhhhhh....

Especially au gratin, then you have the combination of the two greatest, delicious evils, cheese and potatoes.  And for dessert, top it off with sugar, like a creme brulee or chocolate souffle.  Potato, cheese, sugar.  It's like the Axis of Evil of food.  Seriously though, moderation, folks, moderation.  The only way to live life at the fullest without enduring a miserable carb free regimen.  I mean how much cabbage soup and filet of sole can one ingest before going loony?

If you are into potatoes, then definitely look into Peruvian Cuisine.

Potato originated from Peru (Andes) and there are hundreds, if not thousands types of potatoes that come from there.

Peruvian restaurants have been popping up all over the country in the past ten years and in my opinion Peruvian food is the only great food that you can find from south of Mexico to the South Pole.
