David,
by homo sacer on Sat Jun 19, 2010 07:59 PM PDTI agree with you (in your response to my comment) about the nature of IR’s constitution and abuses it has allowed. However, in Mousavi’s statement you quoted there is no mention of him “defending human rights and freedom.” Note that he is only referring to “respect for people’s view and vote”, and even that “within the framework of the constitution.” Therefore, juxtaposition of article 19 and his statement in your post is not merited.
I am not arguing about semantics here . My point is that it is time for seculars to draw a line between themselves and the backbone of GM, as Ganji did here. Sulking will not do.
ملی مذهبی
LalehGillaniSat Jun 19, 2010 07:51 PM PDT
ALAKI MOVEMENT
by maziar 58 on Sat Jun 19, 2010 05:08 PM PDTTHANKS MR. DAVID ETEBARI
I think from inside the mullahs nest they came up with the ideas of making an alaki movement to bring out as much possible anti regimes to kill & crush so they can silence the rest of the Iranians ,And I hope they fail
cause Iran & Iranians deserve a much better way of living.
FREEDOM & PEACE Maziar

by David ET on Sat Jun 19, 2010 04:53 PM PDTMousavi can not on one hand support and promote establishment of the constitution of Islamic Republic with all its undemocratic and anti human rights structure and laws and also claim that he is defending human rights and freedom.
Mousavi can not on one hand support Khomeini and his Golden years which represented some of the darkest years of human rights violations .
This statement along with many of his previous ones are filled with flaws .
Crushing freedom and raising the execution poles by Islamic Republic has its roots in Khomenei's era and in the constition of Islamic Republic.
Mixing apples and oranges
by homo sacer on Fri Jun 18, 2010 04:17 PM PDTThere is no relationship between the UDHR’s article 19 and Mousavi’s statement. There is nothing in the quoted paragraph that suggests he believes that not “everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression.”
He is simply reiterating what he considers to be the view of the majority in the Green Movement. One has every right to disagree with what he says. One can even claim that the majority is secular, and that he is misrepresenting its views (of course, the burden of proof will then be on the one who makes such claims). However, the proposition in this post that (a) he is violating article 19, and (b) he is throwing seculars out, is far-fetched.
Is there any doubt that IR’s constitution is counter-secular? That, GM’s dominant voice in Iran (i.e. that of Khatami-Mousavi-Karoubi triangle) insists on operating within the boundaries of that constitution? That, seculars’ support for the GM is strategic?
So, what’s the point here?
Stay put
by Ali P. on Thu Jun 17, 2010 03:05 PM PDTThe man is melli-mazhabi, supposedly. We have a ton of them back home; what can you do?
The Green movement belongs to all Iranians. I have as much right, kicking anyone out, as Mir hossein does.
Stay put people...
Read Mousavi's statement again...

David, As long as Mousavi
by MM on Thu Jun 17, 2010 01:30 PM PDTDavid,
As long as Mousavi and company support religious interferance in politics, the support for full implementation of the UN human rights charter is just a ploy. The fanatic political wing of Shia'ism (Shi'a Islamists) will eventually pull the party towards Shari'a laws as long as they have a say in politics.
