The more reasons to recruit the likes of ayatolah Boroujerdi into the secular union. I think if a few well respected roohani join the efforts of secularists, then the impact will carry the movement ahead by leaps and bounds.

Unfortunately, currently we don't have a bridge between progressive secular groups and the vast non-Islamist religious masses. I use the term "progressive seculars" to specifically exclude the anti-Islamic camps. I use the term "religious masses" to specifically exclude Islamists and to include the ordinary good old noble moslems of our country (the undisputed majority by far.)

One of the highest priorities should be to facilitate the creation of this bridge and to eliminate existing suspicions between the two camps. Its impact will be significant to further the cause of a free secular Iran.

The time to act is today, and not tomorrow

This link was sent to me by one of my activist contacts in Iran. She is a young secular moslem woman who thirsts for the kind of ideas and concepts brought forth in these types of blogs.

These pictures of the sad state of affairs in Khuzestan were not meant to attack the IRI and to divert the subject of this blog, but instead they were meant to magnify the importance and urgency of David ET's message, and the necessity for each one of us to roll up our sleeves and get involved in the ideals of secularism in any way we can.

Secularism would not only be against IRI's brutality and its suppression of freedom, but also against its corruption, its looting of Iran's riches, and as these pictures depict, its economical injustice and inequality. This is because a secular government does not follow any ideology, and so it will focus on the well being and interests of its citizens foremost and above all else.

The people you see in these pictures speak Farsi, recite Hafez poems and celebrate Norouz, just like the rest of us. This is after 30 years and more than one TRILION (one thousand billion) dollars in oil revenue. Things are even worst in Sistan and Balouchestan. 

We must spread the messages of secularism wherever we can. Secularism is the only tool for Iranians that could lead them to the establishment of human rights, social justice, economical opportunities, tolerance, security and cultural flourishment.

AO - understandable only if they lived in Jamaran & flew to US

The attitude of the folks you mentioned is understandable only if the IRI sympathizers lived in a place like Jamaran, went to Tehran U. and flew right to the west / US, and think that everything is rosey in Iran.

Otherwise, the aalaachigh-neshinaan in south of Tehran are not any better.

I must say you have a great gift in putting matters in proper perspective in few short sentences that I often find myself repeating:

and yes we must put our minimal difference aside and focus on our own COMMON good and the good of the child in that picture...

This is so sad, for Iranians to live like this.  And you have IRI trash like Jaleho, No Fear and hezbollahforum.net (iranmilitaryforum.net) on this site trying to BS us everyday about IRI's "technological advances" and how they build missiles.  Shame, shame, shame...

If IRI pays so little attention to those who are rolling in the oil fields, we can imagine how the rest of the poor in Iran are doing; substandard living.

I agree with the entire blog.

The message in this blog should be sent to the offices of all active opposing parties, including republicans, monarchists, jebheye melli and secular religious bodies. They should be invited to set aside their differences and focus on their common values as listed in this blog. They will soon learn that their commonalities far exceed their differences.

Our scholars should be contacted and invited to spread the message as well.

We must focus on the future, which brings to us our common values and union, not on the past which brings to us our differences and divisions.

Often it is not the common principals or clear path and solutions that attract, but controversy, confusion and arguments !and when a clear path , encumbering all, is shown, many get afraid.

Despite the usual complains, fear of many is not the lack of freedom but the freedom itself!
