Mr. Strauss-Kahn, who had been seen as a contender in France's 2012 presidential election, is appearing at a New York court. He denies the charges.

His court hearing was delayed to allow forensic tests to be carried out.

Now French writer Tristane Banon says she is considering filing a complaint of sexual assault over a 2002 incident.

The European Union says the scandal surrounding Mr Strauss-Kahn should not affect bail-outs for eurozone countries. The IMF (International Monetary Fund) has played a central role in organising rescue packages for the troubled economies of Portugal and Greece.

Allegation resurfaces

MsBanon, 31, says she was assaulted by Mr Strauss-Kahn when she went to interview him for an article she was writing.

"We're planning to make a complaint. I am working with her," Ms Banon's lawyer David Koubbi told the AFP news agency. Mr Strauss-Kahn's lawyers have so far not responded to the allegation.

According to Ms Banon's version of events, Mr Strauss-Kahn said he would only speak to her if she held his hand.

He then touched her more and more intimately, and in the end she had to fight him off, she said.

Ms Banon's mother, Anne Mansouret, herself a politician from Mr Strauss-Kahn's centre-left Socialist Party, said she persuaded her daughter not to file acomplaint at the time.

"I just want to say that the only reason she didn't press charges at the time is because I convinced her not to, because I thought it was better for her,"Ms Mansouret told French state TV.

Ms Mansouret says she now regrets this advice.

Ms Banon raised the allegation in a TV discussion programme in 2007, but Mr Strauss-Kahn's name was bleeped out during the broadcast.

Tristane Banon hinted on a French talk show about DSK being Horny and Sexually obssessed (English Subtitles):

Magistrates in France have asked for a new investigation into alleged rape involving former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Khan.

The magistrates in Lille are already investigating Mr Strauss-Kahn over his suspected role in a prostitution ring.

A Belgian prostitute has alleged that "DSK" and three of his associates gang-raped her in Washington DC in December 2010, French media report.

Mr Strauss-Kahn's lawyers released a statement denying the accusations.

A hotel maid's civil lawsuit alleging sexual assault by Dominique Strauss-Kahn can proceed to trial, a New York judge has said.

The judge rejected the former International Monetary Fund (IMF) head's bid to have the case dismissed on the grounds of diplomatic immunity.

The woman, Nafissatou Diallo, says Mr Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her in his hotel suite in May 2011. He denies it.

Prosecutors dropped criminal charges in the case last summer.

Sarkozy snaps at DSK over claims  (bbc)

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has rejected claims by Dominique Strauss-Kahn that his party was behind the former IMF chief's downfall.

Mr Sarkozy told reporters Mr Strauss-Kahn should keep quiet and "spare the French his remarks."

Mr Strauss-Kahn told Britain's Guardian newspaper that sex allegations against him were orchestrated by opponents.

He said although he did not believe he had been set up, events were "shaped by those with a political agenda."

Mr Strauss-Kahn was placed under formal investigation by magistrates in Lille.

That's One advantage of having a dual nationality ...

LOL

Yes Sarko is luring Far Right electors away from their traditional leaders (i.e: Jean Marie Le Pen and daughter Marine Le Pen) by tackling the immigration taboo.

It is unfortunate that he has to flirt with this controversial issue and some of his close associates and interior minister have had ambiguously borderline racist comments ( never completely endorsed by Sarkozy even if he never condemned those comments).

But it would be far fetched to call Sarkozy 'racist" as some in the international press or socialist opposition have suggested. His own father is a Hungarian immigrant.

But Unfortunately over the past 3 decades the issue of immigration has become something of a major concern ( justified or not?) for an increasing part of French society which feels alienated and tends to look for pretexts to blame unemployement and insecurity on foreign and particularly the muslim ( essentially North African) community.

One reason for Sarko's comments can be seen in the fact that he needs the Far Right constituencies support if he ever hopes to get even in the polls against the Socialist Candidate Holland whom most observers predict will win in the elections in a month's time.

It's cynical but then that is what Politics particularly when the stakes are hight boil down too.

These elections will be very tough and I'm afraid there will be very harsh words and exchanges thrown in the debates.

On the otherhand if one is left with a sad situation of having to choose between bad and worse I'd rather see Sarkozy carry out a 'Soft' Far Right Policy if you will whilst having Ministers of North African Origine like the Charismatic Rachida Dati:

Sarkozy brings back Rachida Dati - BBC

Profile: Rachida Dati

or Rama Yade ( both of whom were given important in Sarkozy's first government) rather than seeing that policy carried out by the Fascist National Front ( Our Jebheyeh Melli) of Le Pen.

Otherwise even if Sarkozy is beaten next month by the Socialist candidate the victory may prove a bitter experience on the long run because by 2017 we may find ourselves in the same situation as Austria which ended up by electing a Far Right President but this time in the person of Le Pen's daughter.

If that happens then  you can be sure I will be leaving this country for good ;0)

For indeed That would have far more dramatic consequences than a re election of Sarkozy carrying out a Mildly Far Right policy for a few years just to marginalize the leaders of the French National Front in public opinion.

But it's true that whoever wins next month in the upcoming election the pill will be bitter to swallow eitherway.

But then again the chances at this stage of seeing Sarkozy lose the Presidential race are higher than seeing France turn into Nazi Germany overnight if he were reelected ...

Gerard Depardieu is to star as Dominique Strauss-Kahn in a film about the sex scandal that caused the former IMF chief to resign.

US director Abel Ferrara told France's Le Monde newspaper he would be making the film, with Isabelle Adjani playing Mr Strauss-Kahn's wife, Anne Sinclair.

Which of course begs the question, which Mongol Kahn is Dominic descended from? Of course in the medieval period it was quite routine for the great Khans to service upto 15-20 women in a night. Modern men are a pale shadow of their lusty forbears.

My money on Changis. Its a safe bet with 16 million direct descendents...
