Come on people.....

You supporters of the "police force" talk as if this is the first time the police is caught red handed. You know better than that folks. Thanks to the internet and to cheap cameras, there are now thousands of police brutality cases recorded and documented. The latest, shown on CNN yesterday, was the policeman attempting to strangle a teenager to punish him for erratic skateboarding on the street.

Another one, again on CNN yesterday, showed security forces violently pushing a handycapped man off his wheelchair to "search" him and his wheelchair. That is how they are trained. Even when they are caught, what do you think would happen? Nothing. The police management and the legal system supports them. All they may get is temporary suspension or getting assigned to "desk jobs" while their crime is being "investigated" by their own collegues!

And, these recorded cases are just the tip of the iceberg. They are the RECORDED ones. Only god knows how many thousands more there are. The Police in North America are, regrettably, no longer trained to serve. They are trained to demand obedience and full surrender using insults, humiliation, and in MANY cases torture. You just dont see them because the vast majority of them are not recorded.

The stories of massive, systematic corruption and brutality at various police departments, from Los Angeles to New York and from Chicago to Louisiana, heavily burden news archive systems. Just go and check and see the massive statistics of the number of lawsuits against the police. And again, these are the lawsuits brought by people who could afford them and who dared to risk their livelihood battling police corruption and brutality.

What we all have respect for is the extremely hard work a policeman or a policewoman has to do to secure our lives and fight crime. Unfortunately, that is not the understanding of the top management in the police force. They see themselves at war with the society and they train the police to behave accordingly. That is why you see repeatedly on TV how several armed policemen gang up and dutifully and enthusiastically beat up or shoot defenseless people, or kill them with the "less lethal" tasers.

Nowadays, people hardly expect the police to be acting civilized, even in a simple traffic incident.

Police rudeness, police abuse of its authority, and police brutality is now the norm and not the exception of the practice. The root cause is the increasingly violent society we live in. Over two million prisoners, millions of homeless, millions of people who have been in prison previously and are now free. Are we really surprised that our police force is no longer acting civilized? Everything is going through its natural course.

This Bang Man has it in for the U.S and all that's related to it--good old judge, jury, executioner. Also, quit extolling the virtues of the European this and that. There are plenty of horror stories about the European cops, etc. Anyway, yes, the U.S police messed up as far as using common sense and sensitivity. They should be reprimanded, but give the police in general a break. I'll bet 99% of the time they face the worst side of the people they come in contact with, whereas most of us usually face the better side of people in our professional contacts. I have a lot of respect for the police force, despite a few bad apples among them.

The woman that was strip searched in jail, it is extremely unfortunate. The police (men and women) who did it were doing it for her safety. They were making sure she did not have a sharp object, which she might have used to commit suicide. They did not follow all the procedures according to the book, but there in no malice intended. They are not demons, as intended to be portrayed by the author and the lawyer. Where I reside, in a short span of time a couple of people committed suicide while in custody. Now the police department is being sued for not performing their duties. So, what we have here is case of damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
