Status Quo or Status Fictus?

Thank God! Finally, discussion is building on how to fund this site!

As a long time writer and supporter, I thankfully have yet another opinion to post here, before it shuts down for good one day. For anyone just joining; regardless of anyone including the owner telling you otherwise, trust me:

This site is not funct.

Or, this site is defunct.

Or this site is not able to cover it's costs with the ads that annoy everyone.

Any attempt to smoke out JJ on this topic will be received with the standard, "It's not important" or "Yeh Joori Khodesh Hall Misheh". And his faith has certainly worked magic. But being Iranian, I simply don't believe in faith or magic anymore. Or the usual the process of wait until the bell is about to ring, and they are about to close down the site, and then wake up and start seeking funding from someone, anyone.

I will gladly shut my mouth and go back to writing about Iran's constitutional perversions, except, however I simply can't stand it anymore! Everyone considers this site to be the NPR of Iranians. Everyone values this site as a bastion of free speech. Everyone wants these ads gone.

So here's today's idea: (before you post a comment, consider that this has never been tried)

•    JJ open's up a PayPal account.
•    Each donation unit is set at $5.
•    You can buy as many units, make as many $5 donations as you want.
•    We set up a counter and place it at the top where the ads usually are. This counter feeds real-time total donations made.
•    When the number reaches $150,000 the counter goes away for a year.

Meanwhile:

•    The site is fully funded for a year.
•    Only Cultural or event ads are allowed.
•    They run for 2 weeks.
•    They are free.

Seriously, this could take as little as one day to do, if everyone wanted to do this.

Deaf is you who keep repeating the same nonsense.

by Esfand Aashena on

I say tomato you say potato.  I respond to what you're writing and proposing and you keep saying "that's not what I'm saying"!  It is what you're saying and I said they wouldn't let you in UN and you asked for Ban Ki Moon!

Everything is sacred

I also think that some contradictory messages are being sent

by Anahid Hojjati on

i think in these blogs and even on their comment threads, some negative messages are being sent. For instance, couple people commented that those of us who write blogs, if we help financially, then we should not expect our blogs to be feautred. So now, not only we should help but we should also feel guilty "ke mabada" IC thinks that we are doing that so our blogs will be featured. Personally, I don't think these comments are very nice. If some people financially help and you do not want to feature their blogs, don't but also don't make comments which imply that the bloggers who fianncially donate money; however small, might do it so their blogs are featred.

I'm too dim to understand Dabashi's genius and therefore too dim to use pay pal.

 Blame my parents.

They wouldn't let someone in UN he asked for Ban Ki Moon!

We have a saying in Farsi too deh raash nemidadan soragh kadkhoda ro migereft (translation on subject line ;-)

Bahmani as you say i.com has NOT been able to raise enough funds over the past 15 years and now you're suggesting raising $150K year after year?!

$150K?  Is that all?  Why not $250K which would make it just under the luxury tax?  Heck a married professional Iranian couple can make more than that.  And you think with this endorsement i.com is going anywhere?!

I wish i.com would stay forever but these series of blogs by you is just making things worse!  You're making people not only lose their faith in this but also wild suggestions.

If a handful of people can pitch in to cover the costs well let them do it.  Who is stopping them?  Presumably a handful of people have been doing this for the past 15 years and they have failed.  Right?!

Perhaps if the issue is money we can ask the founders of Facebook, Twitter, Google or others to buy i.com off our hands!  Heck there are Iranian billionaires in these companies maybe they can cut a check for $150K and buy this place and shut it down so we don't have to listen to all this crap!

Everything is sacred

not "everyone" is bothered

by hamsade ghadimi on

not "everyone" is bothered by the ads.  there are ads on virtually any site with content and open to public.  i think that you even mentioned how easily one can block ads using firefox.
