Protect People and their Human Rights or Accept their Revolution

Human rights promotion and protection need to be a high priority for the governments ad infinitum. In addition, civil and political rights need to be highly respected and ranked equally with economic, social and cultural rights.
For a culture of human rights to be genuinely cultivated, a particular emphasis needs to be placed on the creation of an independent, permanent, and durable institutional capacity, (national human rights commission), not only to vigorously promote human rights but also to protect human rights with strength and determination.
At the dawn of the 21st century, more people around the world are standing up for their human rights. They desire to dismantle the machinery of oppression underpinning dictatorial systems, whether it is religious or secular. “Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law.” 1

Simply put, protect people and their human rights or accept their revolution.

More Information here: “The 1993 World Conference on Human Rights affirmed the crucial connection between international peace and security and the rule of law and human rights, placing them all within the larger context of democratization and development. The United Nations is increasingly combining efforts to prevent or end conflicts with measures aimed at reducing human rights abuses in situations of internal violence. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring the protection of minorities, strengthening democratic institutions, realizing the right to development and securing universal respect for human rights. -- United Nations, "Human Rights Today: A United Nations Priority." //ay/
