The First Republic

Photo essay: Rome

Rome is an amazing city, built since 750s BC, governed by SPQR -- Senātus Populusque Rōmānus ("The Senate and People of Rome"). One of first republic in the world (after Greece) and the place where they experienced the first coup d’etats and populous dictators such as Cezar, Caligula or Neron! Visiting the city, very soon you notice Christians culture invaded the city and blocked any modern architecture being built since. For me it is the difference between Rome and Paris. You find a huge number of churches. Every street has its own church with beautiful painting. In the beginning you find them beautiful since you visit Sistine Chapel after this visit, other paintings become boring! Unfortunately it was forbidden to take pictures of Sistine Chapel.

Did you not get ripped off?!!

by Arash Kamangir on

I visited Rome a couple of years ago ( with car!!) and got ripped off in gas station and a hotel. A couple of other friends got rpped off in a night club as they had to pay double for every thing. In Rome you have to be very careful if you are foriegn.

memories of the 80's came alive

As I walked with each photo and some unrecognizable piazza; But the atmosphere of the city was unchanged seems like new peoples switched their spots with the old ones.

Thank you Mr.Orang for a great uncaptoined! Album.

mille grazie                  Maziar
