AP: An Iranian diplomat was escorted from a street by police Wednesday after he was surrounded and threatened by an angry mob of protesters near the United Nations. Deputy Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast was walking near the U.N. when he was noticed and confronted by the angry mob, said New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne. He flagged down police officers, who helped him get to a safe spot. Browne said the threats were believed to have been verbal >>>

These, unfortunately have chosen the latter group’s path and inevitably will feed the IRI propaganda machine and give the oppostion group a rather bad image/name.

by vatan-dost on Thu Sep 27, 2012 01:03 PM PDTI am not sure what the protesters are trying to accomplish. If they really care about Iran and its people and if thet are willing to do what it takes to free their homeland, then buy an airfare, fly to iran and join others. Sitting in NY and cursing does not free Iran.
And these tactics are the reason IRI is stil in Iran. These oppositions are sitting on their nice couch and shouting. Amazing. Relaly amazing.

by Zendanian on Thu Sep 27, 2012 12:14 PM PDTSome in here think of hiting a defensless middle aged man as the Paragon of anti-regime activity, but truth remains different. Future of peopel's movement will be decided on the streets of Tehran, not NY. If acting like a thug makes you feel high and , mighty, go for it. But remember: When you apply thuggery, you simply become another thug, plain and simple.
There is a fine difference between political opposition, and resorting to same Basiji, Hezbollah culture, we claim to oppose. Until it pays to act like Basij and Hezbollah thugs, so we become one and have a momentary replase.
Obviously some have learned from limitations of the past, but some others haven't learnt Shitte, yet!
P.S. The revolutionary movement in Kurdestan has more than 33 years of experience in Mass Armed Struggle against Islamic Republic of Hell. The revolutionary movement of Kurdestan has not abondoned the Mass Armed Struggle tradition, but has continued and augmented its armed forces. How this movement has conducted itself, and operated in all these periods has gained the support and respect of people in Iran.
Revolutionary Mass Armed Struggle against Sepah in Kurdestan is an ethical instance of resorting to violence in confronting IR.
Beating a defensless man will always remain unethical.

An Arkansas man landed a blow for democracy Wednesday — right to the gut of an Iranian official.
Gregory Nelson received cheers and handshakes from anti-Iran protesters after slugging Foreign Ministry mouthpiece Ramin Mehmanparast on 48th St. near Second Ave.
“It felt really good,” said Nelson, 50, after delivering his shot to the Iranian bigwig’s stomach. “It wasn’t that hard, but he felt it.”
Nelson was flanked by a horde of protesters, many of them Iranian immigrants demanding democracy in their homeland, when Mehmanparast walked past after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s United Nations speech.
The former Army National Guard member, doing his best Mike Tyson impression, saw an opening and swung at the spokesman’s midsection before he could escape.

But the first time I met them and told them I was Iranian, his father cheerfully told me the story of how he participated in the anti-Shah protests back in 1977 when the poor guy visited Washington. According to him, there was a large contingent of Palestinians and South Lebanese mixed in with those demonstrators. He said that they were bus'ed in by the "organizers." I think he had come all the way from California. Very telling.
Speaking of Peaceful Opposition!
by Faramarz on Thu Sep 27, 2012 10:29 AM PDTLet’s travel down the memory lane!
Back in November, 1977 when the late Shah came to Washington, all the peaceful anti-Shah Cherik, Mojahed and Islamists were gathered outside of the White House protesting. As soon as the late-Shah’s motorcade passed, the peaceful student revolutionaries attacked a small group of pro-Shah crowd who were waving flags with their placards (wood sticks with nails sticking out) and beat the crap out of them.
Back in Iran, some of the same peaceful opposition groups were getting trained in Fatah Camps in Lebanon and Libya on how to conduct an arm struggle. And later on in Iran they used their skills in killing the Imperial Guard using cocktail Molotov and the weapons that they got from military depots.
But I guess, 34 years later, the 70's warriors are old and cranky and the preferred method of fighting the Regime is peaceful Gandhi-like “turn-the-other-cheek" and let’s have a referendum about Velayat Faghih!
Yeah, that will force the Regime out, for sure!
Very nice!
by Anonymous Observer on Thu Sep 27, 2012 10:27 AM PDTThis is exactly what needs to be done to IR scum when they leave the protection of the police state that they have created in Iran. These people where actually calm and kept repeating "don't touch him," which is much less than what a Basiji would do to a person in Iran who demonstrates the slightest opposition to the brutal regime.
It's also a taste of things to come for IR officials. This is a small glimpse of what will happen to do them in the streets of Iran when their terrorist regime collapses, the only difference being that when that time comes, there will be no "fascist NYPD" staff to come to their rescue.

by Peacock_Feather on Thu Sep 27, 2012 10:11 AM PDTThe NYPD is already in hot-water for their failure to protect a diplomat, which technically places the entire United States government in violation of its international law commitments to protect all diplomats. Now whatever people think of Mehmanparast, he is still a recognized diplomat, and America's treaty obligations require its law enforcement to protect these individuals unless the ICC explicitly and in writing determines otherwise and has issued a writ for this individual to be brought before it at the Hague.
MEK lynch-mobs flown out from California to molest IRI diplomats in NYC does not build much of a case for the MEK believing, let alone observing, the rule of law. It also projects an image of the USA as a lawless and largely hypocritical society which allows the molestation of diplomats on its streets due to inadequate police protection while it beats the crap out of its own citizenry in Zuccotti Park during Occupy Wall Street.
Now what you are advocating is an act of wanton murder and terrorism not unlike how Ghadaffi met his end at the hands of America's NATO Islamist mercenaries and not unlike what you accuse of the IRI. If something like this were to happen on the streets of NYC, not a single American or European diplomat would ever be safe anywhere ever again. Is this the world you are advocating for? We should be told if that is what you are fighting for.

Protesting loudley is one thing, making him look like a victim
by Zendanian on Thu Sep 27, 2012 09:18 AM PDTNot cool, or good publicity, not to mention civilized or cultured.
I have no problem with throwing of a pie or two, but anything that makes regime's pawns look like a victim, gotta go. Not good.
We should be as loud and intrusive as we desire while confronting regime's officials, at the same time all such prceedings could and shall be done in as much a non-violent manner as possible. That is if culture and civilization is the aim.
P.S. If you're calling for capital punishments for these loser, it's a good indication of just how much you've lost your marbles. Cheers
There is a thing that is very common with criminals....
by Bavafa on Thu Sep 27, 2012 09:17 AM PDTThey hardly ever change for real.
- Once a Basiji, always a Basiji (we have examples on IC)
- Once a traitor, always a traitor (MEK is a perfect example)
and for the most part
- Once a thug, always a thug (AN and his gangs is a good example)
Mehmanparast may very well deserve a punch in the face but it would be meaningful if it is received from an Iranian. A punch by MEK, Basijis or thugs only give him credibility (by way of making him to be a victim) that he does not deserve.

I think soozan khanoom should stop her recruitment campaign on behalf of MKO, by attributing any attack on the Fascist Isamist regime to MKO!
